the sun lapped her body with its warm, humid tongue; in a sheer dress, she dances, she rides, across the sidewalk, face in smiles, tears abashed and forever hidden.
Call me old-fashioned, but this seems so transparent as to be vulgar. A lovely, crisp dress and jazzy shoes. Do I need to see through to her black underwear?
Oh yes, I love subtly see-through dresses, especially ones with a shape, length and print that appear at first rather classic. It’s all about (not-so) subliminal messages in fashion.
this is honestly what i’m going to miss about summer: being almost half naked and not caring. there’s no other time in the year wear prancing around in a sheer dress with just a bikini is absolutely acceptable.
Don’t love the naked. It comes off as a desperate cry for attention. And as my grandma would say that is not going to get you the kind of attention you want.
Although it is cute, and she has a lovely figure, as the whole world can now see, have you ever noticed that those who make the best-dressed lists actually wear clothes?
Nice dress….but I think that to wear it you have to live in NYC or London…I think that in Barcelona everyone looks at you if you wear it. Maybe I’m wrong…
I’m not usually a fan of the see-through dresses and skirts that have been floating around this summer, but something about the demure sweetness of the dress (if, of course, it weren’t totally sheer) counteracts that in such a lovely way. I actually give this a thumbs up, even to my own surprise!
Well, i am usually a huge fan of see-through stuff but this outfit lacks the classines you should have when wearing transparent materials. And the shoes, they look like a mixture of bowling shoes and creepers, and that is not a good combination at all. But its just my opinion, i see that most of the people like this outfit.
Amazing. Somehow she was able to successfully pull off sheer and somehow look sexy, but not TRASHY. I’m so tired of sheer getting a bad wrap by those who abuse it and use it to attain negative attention.
This is risque but not tasteless.
Nicely done.
Tired of the trend of showing the underwear. Women can be really tragic sometimes. People act like they don’t have to protect themselves. Cat calls and stalkers in NYC are as common as sunshine in SoCal so why the hell would you wear this? Why has she been validated by being featured on a fashion blog? Even at the beach I don’t condone nakedness…wear a slip and wear a one piece and show some damn class.
Thank you for posting a great pic like this with a woman wearing practical yet adorable and stylish vintage shoes instead of gross skinny high heels. Looove it. This is how real gals dress (well, except they might put on a slip). But love it nonetheless!
Whether they’re undergarments or swimwear, the briefs & bra under the dress are substantive and opaque, so this young woman is actually more “covered up” than most women are at the beach. The look as a whole isn’t one _I’d_ wear anywhere but the beach, but that’s me; she’s rocking the pinup vibe, and the outfit certainly isn’t any more revealing or overtly sexy than the ridiculously short skirts or plunging necklines that have become commonplace.
And as for the comments about “attracting negative attention”… seriously, folks. Repeat after me: harassment is the fault of the offender, not the person being harassed.
She probably dressed in muted lighting in her bedroom, not realising how sheer her dress would be in the sunlight. Even with a wicked bod, I’m not a fan of this look – she needs a sexy slip.
Really excellent. I love how people have gotten braver and more natural about see thru dresses. I want to see it continue from here next summer. Its so perfect. I am getting very comfortable with the look too. Who cares if people see your underthings a bit through a dress? First of all they are looking; second of all Its undergarments, not my privates. As long as it looks good. She gets it. Its not for the beach or the bedroom, its for wearing anywhere you want to go.
Oh and as the dress is clearly see thru, and its a very big trend, I think its kind of obvious its intended. Especially given the granny panties and the big bra. You don’t wear stuff like that except for modesty. Its twice as big as regular underwear.
this is one of my nightmares. Other people dream about being naked on stage………..I dream that I’ve spent the morning running errands only to discover, as I’m exiting the public library, that my clothes are mere outlines without substance!!!
I love it! I’m trying to wok up the nerve to rock the look. I agree that easier to do in the summer when its so hot you don’t give a damn, haha. The backlight and the gesture are lyrical. So of the moment. I’m really surprised that anyone is calling this vulgar since it is anything but.
I’d only ever wear sth like that dress in the northern fashion progressive cities like New York or London etc cause as a girl living in Africa, i’d probably be stoned or sth…
This gives me new confidence in wearing visible underpinnings. I think you can definitely get away with it if you have a pretty matching set that’s more conservative.
Let me see if I get this: A few weeks ago, Scott posted the most incredible photo (from Italy) of the most incredibly beautiful and ripe and lucious and totally un-self-conscious Italian girl riding her back with a man’s shirt on, and a lot of folk panned it. Said it was too revealing, blahblahblah. Now we have a shot of an NYC girl (very pretty) in a sheer dress with black underwear or bathing suit showing through it and the majority of comments think the way she is dressed is SEXY! AMAZING! ALLURING! Me, I think it’s just average NYC boring, though I want to stress the young lady is very pretty. It’s a poor example of class and style and I’m not interested. Trying to hard. Too much effort. In the Betty Paige context, I understand. But Betty Paige did not dress like that when she was not working. This isn’t style.
Too sheer for day wear. Looks like she should be on the red carpet or performing. Yeah, the shoes are bad too. Maybe a slip or even half-slip would have saved it. Don’t think a lady goes around showing her bra and panties. I know– who says she’s a lady… well…

Transparency of garments is in itself not vulgar. If she had worned a black bodysuit underneath, she would cross imediately into stylish territory.

I love it! I’m trying to wok up the nerve to rock the look. I agree that easier to do in the summer when its so hot you don’t give a damn, haha. The backlight and the gesture are lyrical. So of the moment. I’m really surprised that anyone is calling this vulgar since it is anything but.

Love the study in contrasts here:
A classic, almost 1940’s silhouette, but see-through.
Minimalist-to-no jewelry or accessories actually draws the attention to the dress and the contrasting black underneath.
A good example of how simplicity combined with some deliberate rule-breaking can add up to a distinctive look.

This isn’t style.

oddly charming… although it will probably get you harrassed (at the very least) or much worse in the country where I live… sad…

Too sheer for day wear. Looks like she should be on the red carpet or performing. Yeah, the shoes are bad too. Maybe a slip or even half-slip would have saved it. Don’t think a lady goes around showing her bra and panties. I know– who says she’s a lady… well…
