Quite an interesting moment to capture actually! People have this very specific position when they check their phone on the street, slightly inwards, but also rather unaware of how they look/stand, which is what makes it interesting.
Ah, the ubiquitous smart phone pose. It’s actually perfect for photographers wanting to take candid shots. I catch a lot of my subjects doing the same. Very cool outfits here.
Props for the Roethke! (But you may want to use this e-edition of the poem–the one you’re linked to inserts an extra word in the 7th line and throws off the rhythm & meter: http://www.poetryfoundation.org/poem/172104 . Apologies if that seems pedantic!)
Gosh, this photo captures a moment in time. Me? When I’m checking my phone, I’ve usually one glove off and that glove cradles the iPhone. And the bare freezing hand checks messages. What’s more, I love the mystery of these photos. In one shot, you can’t even see the face with the furry hood in the way, in the other, the eyes are cast down.
This is interesting, as I’ve been thinking lately how much the phones that people are talking on or checking detract from otherwise lovely photos! I wish we didn’t live in a world in which people are more interested in whatever message is coming in than the people that are around them at any given moment. It’s chilling, in a way.
I guess its just that most of us have to work for a living, and don’t really have the luxury to simply walk around enjoying the scenery with nothing on our minds. The only difference is that ten years ago, if you were working you were stuck sitting by the phone at times when now you can do other things and still conduct your business. I would call it the best of both worlds. Its not like people now communicate at times when they do not need to do so. Messaging is a pain, especially when its cold pout but most of us do it as we need to.
I was thinking,, 10 years ago, this would be a uncommon pose. Today it’s completely normal and everyone is doing it (and then I’m pointing on the phone check-part of the pose ofc). Interesting isn’t it, such subtile changes in human habits?!
Both of the coats are great, and I particularly like super long sweater sleeves. Plus furry hoods are so warm when it’s cold outside! Question- the buckle parts over the boots in the top pic, are they part of the boots or the pants or completely separate, like short gaiters?
I’ve noticed that in many of the photos on your blog, people are looking at their phone. Is it just naturally what people want to do when you ask to take a photo of them?
No one has yet to touch on the color of the first’s lips, they seem very dark, maybe it’s just the photos colouring, but I for one think it completes the mysterious undertones of her outfit. “Modern day spy” ;) Merry Christmas everyone!! :*

One certainly doesn’t have to travel far to see “phone checking”. Rather tired of it. I guess at least they aren’t walking and checking.
