I love the proud look in his eyes – he knows he’s not wearing something ordinary yet he owns it.

Indeed, or that he knows he is wearing something ordinary but has layered it in ways that create something extraordinary.

Love the ease and comfort of this outfit.

Yeah if anything, it’s certainly comfortable…but I’d imagine you probably also get quite hot wearing this in the summer

Yes he does! He does look like a writer(or a painter). I don’t think I would read his work. It looks like it might be a collection of poetry. But I like the layers.

Love the layering of that jacket with the satin (or silk) liner showing. I can’t make out what he’s wearing for pants.

Un sarouel, un T-shirt, une chemise et une veste ! J’adore, surtout le noir mat sur noir soyeux.

Hmmm. not sure how this works from the front – would like to see it from another angle. Not a big fan of the almost skirt over pants look for men. But love his strong face and beard

Even when things go sour, remember that things will
change again as they always have and always will. Try breaking out
of your comfort zone and join an activity( walking group,
running, badminton, mountain biking, etc. When this day doesn’t deserve Bengals tickets, I don’t
    understand what does.

    an Edwardian gentleman meets Yamamoto!
with a result worthy of Proust’s highly detailed and scrutinising
descriptions. In this case even his words might simply fail!

I love the 5th Arr. in Paris around the Pantheon! It is a safe neighborhood and fairly posh, judging by the prices for apartments (1 million euro for a 1 bedroom). If I may recommend my favorite place to stay: Hotel Des Grands Hommes, in front of the Pantheon. Every morning we walked down Rue Soufflot towards Jardin du Luxembourg and bought canelés at Dalloyau, (2 Place Edmond Rostand). Our day didn’t really start until we had gotten our fix! This area is central to many of the city offices. When you walk through Jardin du Luxembourg you can see people jogging with t-shrits that say, “I RUN PARIS.” Oh look, the mayor just went by…

It is also because of comments like this that I visit this site so often:)

      I love these detailed descriptions:)

Thank you Marion! When he mentioned the Pantheon I was like, “OMG! That is my favorite part of Paris!” My fiancee’ and I really wish we could live there, but alas, apartments are so expensive. You couldn’t wish for a better area though. The area is populated with professionals like the gentleman in the photo. I think there are also university students nearby. There is a fun art store on Rue Soufflot, the kind that has those poseable wooden models in the window, and all kinds of fantastic paper for watercolors. Rue Soufflot, (where the Pantheon is) has rows of motorcycles & scooters parked along one side. Obviously, that’s the way to get around Paris.

          August 6, 2014 at 5:04 pm

Yeah since the famed Quartier Latin is part of the 5th Arrondissement, it is populated by young people (although one cannot help but wonder how they can afford the rent)
In regard to Rue Sufflot and ist motorcycles: Wasn’t there a post on this site a few years ago where Scott took a picture of a couple getting off a scooter exactly there?
But maybe I’m just mixing up things…

Is it me or does this man have a shocking resemblance to Vincent Van Gogh?

    • Adam

You’re right! I only see one ear. He also looks a bit disheveled; the collar of his sportcoat wants pressing. Perhaps he’s coming home from an all-night absinthe’ binge?

Lovely image – love this portrait of this fellow. I love the outer blazer/jacket, but am not crazy about the big looping of fabric, fore and aft, giving off a sense of…I am not sure how to express…needing to use a restroom….though maybe it’s just that it’s subtly or somewhat provocative?

Sorry to say this – but he reminds me a little bit of a certain Adolf: The haircut, the eyes, the moustache, this bizarre way of holding his chin a little higher than necessary…
