I think the browless thing is strange to me precisely because it is making a statement about being expressionless – and that is something I just cannot get behind, as much as I respect anyone who expresses his/herself… but to express your desire to not express anything at all just goes a little over my head!
You can see the faint lines where she draws the brows in sometimes. Many Asians I know do this because they feel their brows are not even enough or long enough to shape how they want them ( fine line) In this way with her blunt fringe it makes her eyes stand out otherwise with the light hair and thick dark brows we would look more at her brows than her eyes!
Love the hair colour by the way- very cool!
Lovely! I see just as much expression if not more. Perhaps it is more self expressive than people are used to. Klaus Nomi did do it back then and I remember. Around that time I shaved mine to short little stubs. Seemed they would never grow back. Keep that in mind if you try it. Play and have fun! Maybe people trying things on purpose can teach us to be more accepting of people who just don’t have hair or brows naturally or through the effects of illness or medication. It would be sad to say that someone looked the a seal after chemotherapy.
Nothing half-ass about this look, huh? He reminds me of some of my more Nordic friends who have dark hair and very pale brows. The photo also supports your earlier statement about mixing kimono and other traditional aesthetics with modern ones. Great pictures from this trip to Japan.
i really don’t think japanese youth are hoping that people “get” their look- and i’m pretty sure outlandishly affected is the look he was going for— i think he is beautiful (though yes, if he jumped out of a bush at night i’d scream). thanks for posting as always!!
Ok. I have seen Manic Panic hair color before. Maybe a million times. This is a nice photograph, definitely. But I am having no luck figuring why people seem to think the Japanese series of photos is so daring or different. Honestly it looks exactly like many photos of the kids in Japan with their sort of typical alternative look. They like to overdo it. As for the browless thing, first we have seen it in lots of places, on this blog in fact, and in several fashion shows, and its cool. But its not amazingly original.
What a pretty boy, cute freckles ;)
I used to hate the no brows look but i love it now its a kind of haunting beauty that only a few can pull off, myself excluded i would look like a sad potato. Japanese fashion like this is not for everyone, but then again what is?
