LIke the textures of the skirt with the beaded blouse, Showing her from behind is different . So many times they just won't turn around and you miss a great look. Glad you posted this one.
I love her outfit. Classic and edgy at the same time. The blue backdrop looks amazing as well. It looks great from behind and I am sure that it looks even better from the front.
what's up with this picture. i'm (almost) speechless. the shapes, colors, textures, proportions….it's all about the WEARER….her skin-tone…those gams! timeless. i'm usually more drawn to more zazzy, directional schtuff but wow. not overly embellished, she looks so unencumbered. the warm shoe with the gold watch makes it for moi. I'd like to come back as her…
hello scott, I love this picture. Love the shoes and top, they match perfectly. The shape of the skirt is wonderful. Congratulations on your book, I already own one. It's such a inspiration for me.
I love her outfit, that amazing ruffled skirt especially, but what I really love is the photography. The rule of thirds is always a great technique haha, and I always love how the background is slightly less out of focus, making the focal point stand out. I really like it.
This is brilliant! It's such a simple outfit, that's made so dynamic by all the little details. And I love how she's just nonchalantly catching a cab! LOL
Personally, what I believe worthy of praise are the blue dust sheets enshrining the construction site behind the earth-toned facade. The blue looks 3 dimensional on screen and almost within the lady's grasp.
Oh yeah, I nearly forgot. I dislike how her massive shoes throw her feminine proportions out of whack.
the studded shirt is way cool. I just received your book! Even my husband loves going through it with me, and picks out men's attire that he wants to model his personal style after! I presume this image will be going into Sartorialist II… ?? I hope so! Though I would like more text/ descriptions of your subjects; who people are makes their style.
I know I've been watching the Style Network too much because the first thing I noticed about this attractive young woman is her SHOES and not only how good they look but what a struggle it must be to spend a day in them.
I truly enjoy this outfit, plenty of texture but a consistency of repetition (the lines of the studded top continue in the lines of the skirt). Love the hint of red in the shoes and the gold watch.
wow gorgeous picture, i absolutely love the city…and i love how the ruffles on the skirt and neutral color of the shirt help offset the studs in the shirt, the purse is also to die for
I think she's hailing a cab so she can slip in, sit down, and slide on some slippers. The Louboutin's qualify as a museum piece, a dangerous weapon, and/or a form of self-torture.
great photo, just screams new york. i am a student and you putting pictures like this make me strive to continue every day. i love the shirt on her it is very unique and something you dont see.
Wow. Great picture- and this is a huge example of why I love photography so much! You managed to catch a perfect moment in time with her, and her outfit is STUNNING.
oooohhh LOUBSSSS…they look fantastic on her. The cream and the black with the Prada accent on the studded mini….amazing. She really looks great in those neutrals..stunning!!!! xo- Ella
the silky fabrics , colors she's wearing, Taxi and the Newyorker background reminds me of Gena Rowlands in ''Gloria'' Gena Rowlands was running all the time around the city stopping Taxis & shooting mobs. Her 80s wardrobe was composed of wonderful palleted Silk ensembles designed by Emanuel Ungaro (Beige, Rose, Burgundy, Black & deep Blue). worth a watch !
Were does he find all of these stylish people? Does he just sit a cafes and wait for someone to come by with a cool look…. One question, where do I send my resume to get that job.
So often I am far more conservative then a lot of the fashion here. This look to me couldn't be more perfect. There is nothing in that on girl that isn't just right. Her legs, wow. I'd wear that entire look in a minute. It's edgy yet classic.
wow i love this outfit :) the shirt is beautiful and it goes well with the skirt even though it's ruffled-love the shoes too! nudes and neutrals are always such a good colour scheme to wear
The looks is beautiful but the Shoes worry me ? rarely have I seen someone who was able to be graceful walking in heels that high, even for a short distance. I think* here is a beautiful body and what a pity they can not run or even walk fast.
This photo really captures the essence of an NYC girl.. especially w/ her hailing a cab. The outfit is perfection. Great photo.. Thanks for the daily inspiration!
This picture juxtaposed against the picture of the Italian woman above reminds me of th estriking difference between European and American fashion. I have noticed from your photographs that European, especially French and Italian women, seem to have more of an ease with dressing while American women seem to almost be using clothing as some form of combat gear. A kind of armor. I can see how the difference in social climates affects how we wear our clothing. It is interesting that now fashion and trends are global however style is still provincial. As you say, it's not what you wear but how you wear it. Bravo for capturing that. You are not just a photographer but a wonderful style teacher.
fantastic! this picture makes so curious and let so much imagination open in because that no one knows the identity of the person this gives a high voltage to the photo and the blue building is so necessary for the center: the watch
…i love the loubs with the simple skirt and embellished top. The image itself is soooo lovely. the line of her arm…the taxi slightly out of focus. her relaxed pose. love it all.
keeee-rikey! those shoes. they're almost stilts. sorry, dont like. i agree with one post, that they make her body look right out of proportion, instead of what heels are meant to do, put it into proportion. i think her slight frame and tapered short skirt dont help.
beautiful shot tho'. i like the one yellow line to her right…it adds a surreal touch, along with the blue christo building thingo
Louboutins that tie around the ankle somehow or any booties are actually relatively comfy, it's the pumps and slingbacks that are sadistic! I love the light here! And I love her look, from shoes to hair. I love it when your photos make me envious!
Thank you for this great shot. Shows the confidence of a simple profile, the clarity of small interesting details, and the classicism of the big shoes. Simple and strong.
But Sartorialist, please show us her face! You must have that shot hiding on a hard drive somewhere, no? HAVE MERCY. Thanks!
This picture represents every day life in fashion. I love how it's focused on her and not the cars it shows the potential of her outfit. To me it shows the skirts ruffles blow me away The jacket stuns me with the character of the buttons. The purse is black and astonishing. The shoe make the whole outfit for me with there height.
Love the top, I think its from Reiss. Not so sure about the shoes, they've got a great heel which elongates her legs but I'm not sure if the platform sole really goes with the look…
This is a beautiful outfit! Love the studded blouse and the ruffled skirt! Fabulous, a great look for the office, simply stunning and oh so chic but oh so effortless at the same time!
Nice look, but those heels are going to hurt her feet when she stands and those studs are going to dig into her back when she sits. Where's the practicality?
It feels it is a photoshoot…well she can for sure support the awesome outfit…Shoes and bag are really expensive – I am guessing the others as well and not all of can afford it but is nice to see money to go with taste!
I like her look but you can see that all clothes costs quite a money… I don't mind but when I see real look and chic but no expensive brands I am much more impressed. Common! How many people can afford this look :-) but still it's very inspiring and that's what I like about this blog you can see top brands and also a street style without expensive clothes :-)
Hiiiiiiiiiii This photo really captures the essence of an NYC girl. What a great, textural combination. love how it's focused on her and not the cars it shows the potential of her outfit.
The shirt material takes the notion of fabric texture to a whole new levele. Interesting juxtaposition with the dark horizontals of the skirt. Nice interplay, very pretty!
I love her look. The details on the skirt and top are exquisite and amps up the neutral colors. However, I am a New Yorker and our streets are not made for those heels, especially since we do a lot of walking. I almost broke my ankle with 4 inch heels once, though I have been wearing heels since I was 15.
I dont know how her face look like… but if i saw a woman giving her back at me dressed up like this… i would expect carla bruni kinda look….. and to me shes gorge…no flaws at all….
I like the outfit!i think its from reiss! i just picked up a gorgeous dress from them called Scarlet! I love how they ve got a different name for all the dresses

So often I am far more conservative then a lot of the fashion here. This look to me couldn't be more perfect. There is nothing in that on girl that isn't just right. Her legs, wow. I'd wear that entire look in a minute. It's edgy yet classic.

The looks is beautiful but the Shoes worry me ? rarely have I seen someone who was able to be graceful walking in heels that high, even for a short distance. I think* here is a beautiful body and what a pity they can not run or even walk fast.

You are not just a photographer but a wonderful style teacher.

keeee-rikey! those shoes. they're almost stilts. sorry, dont like. i agree with one post, that they make her body look right out of proportion, instead of what heels are meant to do, put it into proportion. i think her slight frame and tapered short skirt dont help.
beautiful shot tho'. i like the one yellow line to her right…it adds a surreal touch, along with the blue christo building thingo

I love her look. The details on the skirt and top are exquisite and amps up the neutral colors. However, I am a New Yorker and our streets are not made for those heels, especially since we do a lot of walking. I almost broke my ankle with 4 inch heels once, though I have been wearing heels since I was 15.
