Honestly, I used to buy a lot of my socks from the sock lady who set up a table in front of the Walgreen's at the south end of Union Square. She'd have footie socks like that 3 pairs for $5. They lasted for years. Otherwise I recommend Daffy's, SYMS or Burlington Coat Factory. No need for a designer label on something that will never be seen outside of your shoe.
Every now and then H&M has 3 pairs for $6. only in black or white though. They are more of the no-show kind which imo is better than what dude in the pic is showing.
Oh dear god have you taken leave of your senses these are hideous beyond belief you should only wear footies when they are not going to be seen it'll be pop sox next stop it now!
I must say I'm extremely ambivalent regarding these: there's something of the bath-chair, or orthopedic clinic, about them. Perhaps in a vivid colour – pea-soup green, say – on a very young foot, they would work. Otherwise, I can't help feeling socks look best when either sock length or completely obscured by the shoe. I love to see a beautiful bare ankle, just not one that looks like it requires support.
His shoes look like they're made of dried and pressed Victoria plum skins: gorgeous.
I get packs of 4 footsie socks at H & M men's department – they come in different color combos – and two of the pairs are solid colors. I have white and brown pairs – the brown for wearing with my brown Gucci loafers and yellow & brown docle & gabbana sneakers. The solid white and color combo pairs for wearing with all my white sneakers. These footsies are made out of the most comfortable jersey cotton / spandex combo. I love them.
I dislike those "footies", they just look like black no-show ankle socks. Not very chic In my opinion. I wear Loafer socks If its warm enough to go sock less, which are super low and cover the bottom of your feet, toes and heal, and you cant tell the difference. If its too cool for sockless, I wear single colored socks. Those footies just remind me of all the Tourist in Charleston.. Just cant do it.
guys are correct here – H&M carries 4 pair sets in solid black, white and combos. i have them for years…. `and size are for 10-13 shoes… but my italian friend got me really "no sock look" footies, they are completely inside the loafers…
Its ok to wear footsie socks but just make sure they don't show ! The whole point is to look as if one is going sans socks, while in fact, wearing these mini-socks discreetly for comfort inside the shoe.
I cannot stand the word 'footie.' When I was a child my dad managed a shoe store and he and mom always made me wear those awful nylon things while trying on dress shoes. I felt so embarrassed about them, and even though I've gotten over the actual item, the word still haunts me.

Scott – I recall now, in my youth growing up in a Tennis mad town, when women wore tennis skirts, they wore these and the name was 'peds.' Indeed, J.Crew has black or white ones and they consider them for men or women. On their website for $8.50, and they look as if they might be less visible than the ones shown. I'd be eager to read of any results you or anyone else has, such as Century 21, since I'm often casually dressed with jeans & jacket with loafers in warm weather. Thanks!
Sorry, I'm still not a fan of dress shoes and no socks, and I don't care if it's the 'flavor of the month' in mens' fashion; you still look like a hick who can't afford hosiery. Worse still are footies/quarter socks with dress shoes + trousers. I can see it with shorts & a more casual/athletic look, but this just doesn't make sense.
I'll be the one to say it; this is an 'emperor has no clothes' situation. Napoleon once said,"If you're going to take Vienna, take Vienna!"; in other words, no half-measures, and no half socks (or footies).
I have loafer socks that I use for that purpose instead of going sockless in my expensive shoes and making them funky. BANANA REPUBLIC has the best loafer socks in the world. No kidding.
Huh. I never thought I'd say this, but those dark-colored footies are working… they're just visible enough to add a soupcon of odd to the traditional shoes, and they hit in exactly the right spot to look good with those pants. In fact, I almost never like high-waters, but the footies shift the proportions of coverage & skin enough that the pants look more graceful than that style usually does. (And as Eryl notes above, a vivid color might be even better.)
I generally prefer funky socks proper with any outfit, and sockless can work well at times, but when men have thin ankles & good-sized feet, the wee wisp of ankle (nude or bestockinged) exposed by shorter trousers can create a truly odd look. These little footies help!
we call these ankle socks here in singapore :) they can be found everywhere here because students like to wear them so much! do you want me to send over a pair to you? :)
I like the no sock look but we both know what happens when you take of a shoe with no socks. I have similar ones but they tuck inside the shoe so you can't see them which I think is even better. You'll have to come to Australia to buy them unfortunately. haha
VANS footie socks are the all time greatest. very thick, very durable, and very well hidden (since they're made to be worn with the classic VANS slip-on). they come in 3 packs for $12, but are worth their weight in gold.
If you're wearing shoes like the ones in the picture I don't understand why you wouldn't go with real socks. On the other hand, in pumps or ballerinas they're meant to be invisible but they never are so footies are really absolutely useless, in my opinion.
Smartwool has a footie in women's sizes – maybe they come in men's as well – the one called Hide & Sleek is very low cut, Hide & Seek, somewhat less so. Cozier and a better fit than the discount socks.
Sir, you just have to go to a diving shop and buy these for much less money than anywhere else. Believe me, I am a diver from Germany and I use the FĂĽĂźlinge also in that way. So be brave and try it! Greetings from Berlin, R.
Maybe get creative and cut some sock low so they aren't visible. Charcoal ankle socks contrasting would be hot. This look as is reminds me of Nona and her Cumfs. Eek. Is this style? Maybe, but not worthy of your blog. Poses the question I guess.
My boyfriend has been doing this no-sock look all summer — even with a suit and it bugs me! So now you are telling me its good? Well, hopefully he will put some socks on now that winter is coming.
Its not a good look in my opinion but you can always do a google search for 'no shows' under socks–thats what Ive seen them called. Also they have ankle length which would even look worse ! :-) Jack
I have to agree with someone above…VANS are absolutely the best. The are comfortable and almost completely invisible. They are cheap and come in both black and white…I have tried both Banana Republic and J.Crew, but VANS sit lower and are more comfy.
Those are silly and make no sense as you want a shoe sans the sock look. Proper socks look better and more elegant imho.
If you want to achieve the Tochi look (no socks in a mocasin or loafer then reach for the ladies department and buy a pair of invisible socks which they are a pair of tiny tights that just protect the vase of the foot
I think these are great for men–my man wears them. JCrew is a good spot. Used to go to target but still boycotting over their anti-gay political donations…
This afternoon, on Amsterdam Ave. in NYC, I saw a guy on a motorcycle wearing gray footies with shoes just like the pictured ones. I did a double-take!
Tip: Get an uncle who works in a sock factory! :P Never had to buy socks in my life! I have plenty of those to use in the Summer or just to keep the feet confortable when I practice some sports (using more than one pair of socks)
In london, we call them sport socks, and most of the time their worn with trainers. Try places like Nike Town, JD sports, any sports shops basically :) Also as someone mentioned earlier Puma do them and their really comfortable as their thicker, ideal for the winter! Love From London X
There are several brands that make them – Hue or DKNY which you can get at Nordstroms, Macy's, etc. I like the better known brands since you want them to stay put and not slide under your heel. Di from San Francisco
Footies are great but only if they are not peeping out from the shoes. My friend's Italian son-in-law uses them. She asked him once if it wasn't uncomfortable wearing barefooted and he took off his shoes and the secret was the footies.
If you really want to weart wear footies, the only option for me would be in a very bright color. I dont really like the look this way because it looks like a halfhearted compromise. Just my opinion. Maybe i am a bit slow fashionwise concerning this trend ; ) Magdalene
Just don't wear them at all. Totally without class, barely acceptable with sneakers. The no sock look is dubious anyway, a bit contrived I feel. This is just studiedly awful.
No go! If you go for the "no sock look" then wear no socks – if you want to wear socks – wear socks, but real ones – no footies, pleeeease! Unless they are so tiny you want be able to see them at all (in Germany available at every department store…) – but then, they are no use in warming your feet either!
If you like the sockless look, then go sockless. Wearing short ankle-socks is not the sockless look, and you don't look sockles… you look like you're wearing short ankle-socks. Why not just embrace socks, and enjoy them? Don't try to sneak by with hidden socks, because they can't be hidden.
Honestly, sockless is already rather tiresome and just seems pretentious when pushed into cold weather. The, slightly showing, bootie won't keep your ankles warm.
I've had these and approve! But you do need more than these in winter. Even if you're trying to look like you're not trying. Socks in the cold are a necessity. Please visit http://www.imeanwhat.com for more fashion news. Can you believe Katy Perry named her new frangrance, Purr? http://www.imeanwhat.com
The most horrible site in fashion….Where socks or don't. Now it's just nothing. A 'no sock' look, but I can see a sock.
It just looks completely off balance. Now you see a little bit of the ankle and a little bit of the sock, it's just to busy for a person who probably wears a well considered outfit.
It's OK if you wanna wear 10 different layers and want to dress chaotic or untidy or just want to create confusion.
If you're going for the sockless look, then do it! These aren't working for me. I either wear the SmartWool "Hide and Sleek", or I cut off a pair of socks just past the heel to prevent blisters. No show, either! This was fine for spring and summer, but my tootsies are now in boots and socks!
Goodhew has some great socks, and I have heard rumors of some great men's "footies" for Spring 11, but in the meantime, they have taken care of the women: http://goodhew.us.com/product-detail.html?id=6
What's even better is that they are made out of Merino Wool, Bamboo etc. So they are even more comfortable in all seasons!!
SmartWool socks make a footie sock that actually stay up! they are called the hide and seek OR for an even tinier footie, they're called the hide and sleek. they come in a few different colors and they are sleek hidden and warmer than a nylon sock! they might be on the website under women's but the sizes are universal, so a Large in the women's section is the same as a men's Large! good luck!
I'm with the "no" crowd. Socks ok, no socks ok, but not footies with these shoes. To tell you the truth, I'm not wild about theses shoes with these trousers either…
I'm always too lazy to pull on a pair of socks with my oxfords, especially when I'm in a hurry, so I'm glad to know that it isn't a fashion crime, hehe.
Believe it or not, the 1970s brand Legg's sells a product they call massaging foot covers and they are just the right size to not be visible IN THE LEAST. CVS, Rite-Aid, Walgreens, they can be found everywhere.
Vans has socks especially for their slip-ons. You know how low slip-ons are so these socks are extremely low, too. You wouldn't see them like you do in this pic.

No go! If you go for the "no sock look" then wear no socks – if you want to wear socks – wear socks, but real ones – no footies, pleeeease! Unless they are so tiny you want be able to see them at all (in Germany available at every department store…) – but then, they are no use in warming your feet either!

5) For Street photography: Abierto de Polo at Hurlingham ; Palermo Soho & Hollywood; Puerto Madero Este; Las Cañitas.

SmartWool socks make a footie sock that actually stay up! they are called the hide and seek OR for an even tinier footie, they're called the hide and sleek. they come in a few different colors and they are sleek hidden and warmer than a nylon sock! they might be on the website under women's but the sizes are universal, so a Large in the women's section is the same as a men's Large! good luck!
