She makes that coat look so hip & stylish! I've never been much of a coat fan. I always like the look of a good, classic one in concept…but I never was keen on actually wearing one- too cumbersome. As a kid, I dreaded winter because I was cold, refusing to button up some bulky coat I was forced to wear. Fast-forward to adult years: Not much changed. I never wanted to invest in a good-quality, stylish overcoat–would rather spend the money on killer clothes. After moving to the tropics, the coat issues were forgotten. However, I finally succumbed when my husband kept pointing out the obvious: I needed a good, classic coat because I do actually travel to other climates. I mean really. Everyone needs outerwear. So I bought a gorgeous black cashmere & wool coat. Of course it takes too much room in a suitcase. But I'm traveling to a cold place soon, & actually look forward to wearing it. Back to the photo: Maybe I'll swing for this type of coat next time. I'm inspired now!
much to admire about this shot–the column theme, echoed in the lines of her coat, the perfect brown to wear with black, the way the color of her coat complements her hair. And who doesn’t like a pretty girl with bed-head hair?
open toed shoes in the winter. that’s a bad choice. but apparently i’m the only person who still believes that opened toed shoes and stockings/tights is wrong .
Yes, guys! Natasha is amaing girl! She is smart, charming, intelligent, beautiful, sexy and very chic! I love your style and perfect look! Kiss-kiss! Dimitri F from Moscow
I’ve always loved the dress (?), big warm coat, and black tights look in the wintertime. It’s such a chic way to stay warm, and I love the proportion. I did, however, comment the same thing on a picture a few months back, and I have to say it again because I truly hope it doesn’t catch on or something: Please, PLEASE no open-toed shoes with tights. If you’re wearing tights, odds are, open-toed shoes aren’t appropriate, and vice versa. I just hate that look, but otherwise the outfit looks very comfortable and very good on her. Although I do have the urge to wash or at least brush her hair. Maybe it was windy?
Gorgeous and relaxed. I think open toed shoes with tights look great, after all rules are made to be broken, are they not? It does depend though on how much toe is poking out- peep toes, yes. Sandals, no. And also the opacity of the tights. Opaque tights, yes. Slightly sheer or with toenails visible through the tights, eeergh no!
I love the oversized jacket. If you have the confidence, you can make it work- esp that. Im a big fan of oversized coats, sweaters, shirts. I steal my dad’s shirt and put it with a belt, surprisngly it looks chic.
WOW! The first time I have had a visceral reaction to a look in this blog. Not that others haven’t been fabulous, fascinating, perfectly stylish, heartwarming or cheering, it’s that this one pressed all the right buttons for me. (Except the shoes, I would prefer boots.) Carine, Anouk Aimee, Jackie O and Bjork all alluded to in a very individual package. I want that coat!!!
Who is she? I’m usually in agreement with the Sartorialist and most of the comments, but since when is making yourself into the spitting image of someone else an original or particularly stylish thing to do? She looks like she’s trying to look like Carine Roitfeld. And open-toed sandals in the winter can be stylish enough, but nothing to get excited about.
She looks like she’s wearing her boyfriend’s coat. It’s kind of a ‘messy, just got out of bed at my boyfriend’s apartment, running late for work’, look. I love it!
This looks like her boyfriend’s coat. I love this messy, just got out of bed, running late for work, stole my boyfriend’s coat while he was still sleeping, look.
What a GROOVY coat! So graphic, so nice! Sart…….you SERIOUSLY need to publish a ‘coffee table’ book of your wonderful photos. I’m quite sure Annie L. would write a sterling foreword!
Scott, my friends and I read you from Kathmandu. Your one thing that keeps a hip young crowd sane! We had a long conversation over coffee this morning and all came to the conclusion that you have to remain true to your roots. The magazine and modeling stuff is fine, every once in a while, but we LIVE for the Sartorialist because he is the only one that provides a true slice of savvy street fashion.
Toastie for a cold Moscow winter. The coat reminds me of a comfortable pair of ugg-boots. The look is minimalistic – you can wear it almost anywhere in the world.
Ufff, I have a coat similar to this and I had fears, that the cut is perhaps not really up to date for this winter…but you served me the solution :-)))
I wish you Mr Schuman and all the Sart-fans out there a merry xmas and a very happy new year further with great sart-photos, stories, and debates on style.
Let’s face it — if you look like Nata T., pretty much anything you wear is going to look fabulous. What’s the point of fashion if it only assists the gorgeous? It’s like medicine that only works if you’re not sick.
can’t believe all the kudos on the hair. my immediate response to this was 1) wash your head, and 2) guess skinny youth gets away with anything. btw, there *are* stylish women of substance out there. would love to see some photos of them…
and to the person who said she is trying to look like carine, i don’t think she is trying to look like her — i think she just does look like her. her clothes aren’t carine at all.
i have been reading this blog for years and have never publicly commented but this image is so moving to me! at first glance, this girl is nothing special– almost trashy in a giant men’s coat– but next thing you know you’re DYING to know what else she can pull together. what else is in her closet? is this outfit actually genious? is she moskow’s answer to carrie bradshaw? this girl knows how to create intrigue– and that my friends is always in fashion.
Really far-out coat: charcoal or olive leggings (or whatever they are) would compliment the coat much better. And who’s this Carine person you’re all talking about? If this gal had her hair in a pixie of bun, she’d look killer. Let’s get rid of this obsession with scaggy hair, American ladies: if you’ve got a pretty face, show it off, don’t hide it….
she has appeal that is not defined. she is wearing nothing spectacular, yet you want to look at her. Women have been wearing Carine’s do long before she was known.
ok, i really have to know – i’m going to moscow soon and judging from these images, it does not look that cold. i checked the weather chart and it says it gets way in the minuses (celsius). i have been told to wear tons of layers, possibly sallopettes too! am i going crazy? does anyone know why these models look so warm in tights? (she looks lovely by the way)!
