Great to see a beautiful woman with curves following the too-thin coathanger below. Love the red and black combo in her outfit against the red door. She has gone to an effort with the details in the gloves, bag, shoes and necklace and looks really well put together.
Yes! For me, vintage always works, and will never go off trend! Your vintage photo contest a few months back was such such an inspiring reference point, and women such as this really are doing it for themselves! It's fun to see all the new designer looks each season, but I always go back to my vintage to create something that amuses and suits me ! So please, more individual style (vintage or not) and less oversized blazers, pleated pants, biker-whore stilletos with those red soles, etc. – that is not personal style, that is tribal desperation!
Very nice look overall, and a gorgeous girl but there's something about the way the dress hangs from the waist down that irks me. It somehow looks ill fitting–posture maybe? Just my two cents.
Modern, yet classic. If this was a black & white photo, it would strongly evoke the late '40s are early '50's. She is strongly reminiscent of my mom in her heyday. Therefore, she is beautiful.
I love that you've taken the first photo in black and white. I feel one of your best portraits to date, or maybe that's just me – there are so many interesting ones to choose from, something about the black and white… great work
She has her own, very individual style, and on top of that she's extremely physically beautiful. The only thing I'm not wowed by is her shoes, but that's pretty much by-the-by. She'd get my vote any day.
Seriously, what's not to love? I'm so happy with the return of "grown-up" dressing. Why shouldn't we all look so presentable when we walk out our front door? She looks elegant and poised. I adore this.
Exquisite. Vintage clothes were popular long before Mad Men. The closets of our mother's and grandmothers are a fantastic source. Frankly I'm happy to see tailored clothes that fit rather than pajama bottoms with Juicy across the back.
This is gorgeous (minus the shoes & tights) but, um, the lower part of the dress doesn't look flattering on her. I really hope it was just breezy when you were taking pix of her….
Irrespective of the fashion- that black and white photo has to be the most beautiful shot you have captured to date! Composition, tone and clarity just come together perfectly.
It's like she stepped out of the 40s. Love the dress (especially the color), the choice of pearls as the accessory, the handbag is very chic and the shoes are flat out amazing.
Actually, what I find most fascinating (At least, being a photographer myself) is the contrast of reds. I love the outfit, especially the shoes, but the reds in this picture are stunning!
I love the vertical streak on the door behind her, almost the shape of her proud stance. It's like a halo of her marvelous elegance and the contrast world. Vertical and horizontal. Wonderfully caught by an eye for detail. Or was it accident?
this woman is both strikingly beautiful, and also looks like she's stepped out of some sort of time machine- i love this look and the wonderful deep red colour. i wish more people continued to dress like this
and that bag adds so much grandeur in a way with the pattern :)
Do you have any knowledge about that purse she is carrying? I have one just like it that I got at a vintage shop – and I'm pretty sure my friend has one that is very similar as well… was this purse a huge fad at one point and spread around the nation?
so do you mean modern as in the way helvetica and an Eames rocker is modern?
i see this as beautiful and elegant, yes, but, although it appears to jump from the same era as the now famous font and rocker, modern would not be the first word that comes to mind to describe this look. i definitely wouldn't characterize it as modern in contemporary terms.
which gives rise to some thought about what images are conjured up by these words.
Gorgeous colors and great style – a throwback to the 30's and 40's, but the dress really does not flatter her. i was reading some of the comments and people were commenting on how its great to see a woman with curves, and "real women" and such, but I think the bulkiness of the dress and the heavier fabric make her look bigger than she really is! Food for thought.
Perhaps I'm missing something. I hate to repeat myself about costumery substituting for personal style, but as I believe I'm seeing it again I guess I have to.
She's a beautiful woman and the natural hair is a nice twist on retro style. It may be the only modern element here. Otherwise, I'm not impressed.
That first portrait is absolutely stunning – she looks incredibly elegant. I also like the contrast between the monochrome shot, focusing on her face, and the vibrant colour in the full length – love the way the dress contrast with the tips of the shoes!
Está claro que hay gente que tiene clase y otra que no . El look me encanta pero más allá del estilismo creo que esta chica irradia una elegancia tan natural que resulta marabilloso
Reminds me of your earlier photograph of the pretty woman in bell bottoms and a floppy hat.
She and this lady in red are stylish for wearing proven fashions from another time. The lady in red looks like she stepped out of the 1950s or a Mad Men episode, but luscious.
She is dressed so finely, but her shape is distorted in a way (unless the wind fluffed up her dress). Fine materials though, great bag, hair, makeup, and most of all–shoes!!
Love everthing about this photo! The subject has luminous dignity and grace, the industrial shutters create an unusual backdrop for the neat formality of the young lady's attire. Thanks, Scott, for bringing us everyday folks who possess innate poise and style.
This is definitely an attention grabbing outfit. The red is so vivid and she incorporates the black so well. The outfit is a little "costumey," but eye-catching nonetheless.
I like the natural hair. If I ever decide to go natural, it's good to see it w/a more classic, tailored style. And as for the fit, I think it is fine. This is an AfAm with hips and a bum. I know plenty of ladies with that type of figure.
This my favourite look on this site ever! She manages to do a period look without it looking contrived, and yet the shape of her dress is still interesting, if a bit strange. LOVE.
As for the comments questioning how modern this look is–yes, it's an old-school ultra-femme ensemble, but she's wearing it with very modern confidence and strength. Her powerful, self-assured attitude and sense of fun (those shoes!) create a wonderful juxtaposition with the ensemble, unsettling and challenging old-fashioned cultural constructions of "femininity" as helpless and demure.
I'm swooning with nostalgia here. She's right out of my Civil Rights era childhood. And…are those crinolines under that dress? To die. The shoes crack open the nostalgic dream and make it modern. She's fabulous. Where was she headed dressed like this? Hmm.
i'm usually a silent reader. enjoying your pictures without commenting. but i must say this picture is just incredible! mind blowing! i got goosebumps ;)
WOW. This photo took my breath away. For a while there i was starting to get tired of your images. The "on-trend" "Fashionable" people with the colour by numbers boat shoes and blazer. But these last few photos (mainly back in NY) have me interested all over again!
i think her dress (pockets) and shoes are modern, you can say that her hairstyle is retro but in my opinion it's a litte like grace jones :)now i see that te heels are like '80. Retro is her handbag, pearls and gloves.

i've always loved nappy hair in a pompadour. it's such a charming call to history. when mine was longer that's how i wore it.
thank you to Miss Lady for expressing such lovely style!

Laughter as fuel. xoxo em

LOVE.

Truly gorgeous woman and photo.

Hmm.

i think her dress (pockets) and shoes are modern, you can say that her hairstyle is retro but in my opinion it's a litte like grace jones :)now i see that te heels are like '80.
Retro is her handbag, pearls and gloves.
