On the Street….. Marni Striped Dress, Meatpacking District

Marni, like Dries, is one of those designers that looks great on a wide range of body types.

I agree, but this girl is propably not the best exaple of a “different body type”, she is model-like, just as most of the women presented on your blog.

Hi Scott, it’s Mira again, how are you? I personally encourage you to cover more a non-size-zero women out there since it’s relatively easy for size zero person to look good in any outfits while it takes more effort for the non-size-zero ones to do so. And I think there’s a whole lot more of the non-size-zero people in this world. Just like me ^_^

I like this one.All the colors match-the hair and the shoes, the dress with the scarf and the bag,the background makes it a real picture. With all the right elements even the ordinary-looking girl looks nice.

i like the dress because it’s not overdesigned like a lot of designer items, looks simple and totally appropriate for the street but not in a teeny-bopper-urban-outfitters-wear-it-with-leggings sort of way.

    Overall: A+

I agree; there aren’t many designers who seem to be able to cut for a variety of body types. Marni is definitely one of the best at this; chic, simple, flattering, fashion-forward. My wife loves their dresses and coats, as she has fabulous curves, and has trouble finding chic outfits which work for her.
If you read Kathy Horyn’s NYT blog, she discusses this issue, mainly concerning women’s choices as they move beyond ‘the modeling years’. I don’t always agree with her assessments or opinions, but not many fashion writers are broaching the subject at all. Thanks for keeping a broad lens on age/body range!

she looks great. She’s not model-like, but is still beautiful and has style. And the simplicity of the outfit is in large part what makes it notable. In some ways, these days, it’s kind of easy to just pile on the pieces and impress that way.

And i concur with Mira: more non size-zeroes please!

That is a great dress. And I really love her expression which I would interpret as “oh ok someone *else* in the street who wants to photgraph me – god this just keeps on happening” nonchalant. Lovely…

I sell a lot of Marni, and I couldnt agree more about it working for so many different body types. Its really so fascinating I think. It seems like the kind of thing that so many designers and business people would want to do, but it seems like Consuelo is just designing what she feels like, and if it happens to make great business sense, all the better. She has such a unique grasp of combining different weights of fabric, and where to add darts, where to put fullness and where not to, it is a pleasure to watch people wear it. Indeed, this lady looks lovely. She probably is really comfortable in it too.
