This is Marina. I used to work with her at Style.com.  As you know, she consistently looks incredible.
But to me, these are two separate pictures; above is a great shot of Marina, but below is a shot about the beauty of clothes in motion.
It’s the same reason I shoot so many people on their bicycles; shooting a person walking and smiling at the camera for you is one kind of movement, but a completely unselfconscious shot in which you see the flounced hem kicking up and the silk shirt billowing as she saunters shows you a beauty in the silhouette that your average standing portrait can never achieve.

Her wedges are to DIE for! I am in love with that POP of blue color that they add to her ensemble. It definitely compliments the floral patterned blouse and white skirt. She looks very beautiful and chic!

Great shot Scott. Great to have some more dynamic shots. It is always more difficult to capture the moment right when in motion.

How lovely! The shoes are my favorite, I’ve been looking everywhere for a simple summer wedge. Tant pis. Here comes fall.

disagree w/ the wedges – throws the whole perception of mass and the center of mass off kilter. makes it all look unbalanced. not a specific problem to her, but a general flaw to all wedges. the initial first glance always gives off a sense of large chunks of wood (which they, in essence, are), or worse, hooves.

Beautiful shot, wonderful light. I like your thoughts on portraits vs. candid street photography. I’ve also been experimenting with both, and the way that movement changes the narrative the photographer can create. So interesting.

First photo looks like her legs are about to buckle under her. Must say, not really enjoying these fashion week women who look like their legs are bound in tight skirts and they can’t walk properly due to heel height… to me, the beauty of movement can only be expressed through freedom. Bad posture is not beautiful. That said, se still manages to smile, and has a lovely face.

A good interior or painting or building or whatever is – besides everything else- always in balance. There is no balance here. The beautiful shoes are too heavy with the beautiful blouse. Such a pity.

I so appreciate your comments, which really shine a light on details that I probably would overlook. I like to dissect a bella figure, to figure out what exactly is so attractive, especially when the person is neither young nor svelte, yet great-looking overall. Pictures of people with beautiful bodies are too easy; they make even burlap bags look fabulous, so there’s little to learn.
However, I don’t always get past looks that I’m not fond of to see the one detail or two that could work for me. You really point those out well.
I also really enjoy the Glamourai for her sharp take on DIY. So much more interesting than somebody who just goes out and buys couture for the label.

I agree, when one takes pictures of people in motion the outcome is very different from the ones where people are posing, standing. I admire the beauty of both kinds of pictures, but I prefer the former, these often are more spontaneous, easy going and can turn out in all kinds of surprising ways and I like that.

I love how her silk (?) top billows out. There’s a real feeling of movement there…and it’s a look that’s only for the very confident. I’m not sure all women would go for this look. But it’s fresh especially when it’s paired with a white ruffled skirt, which is totally breaking the rules because it’s past Labor Day and she’s wearing something that’s looks like it’s white cotton or twill, a summerweight fiber. Go girl go!
