On The Street……..Looooong Jeans, NYC

It is hard to describe why some things are sexy. This long jeans over shoes look has a bondage-y, Japanese footwrapped kinda thing going on.

I like my skinny jeans long but that’s a length overkill- unfortunately reminds of centaurs…

Wow. I am not even sure what to say about that? Such an arresting look but I almost wish I could see it in its entirety? Perhaps that would ruin the effect though.

    It just works.

    Were her shoes flat?

I agree about the total outfit maybe killing the effect, however that look in generak is a bit much. The only way it works is if you are trying to pull off the whole rocker chick/chic effect, but even then it is a bit much. If you’re wearing long skinny jeans, they should be long enough to cover your entire ankle, and that’s it.

didn’t that use to be a tradition in Japan? I don’t think it was China.

Can anyone back me up on this?

I just Googled japanese foot binding and i guess it was big in China also – I stand corrected

the chinese women used to bind their feets with shreds of broken glass inside the bindings. it was meant to keep the feet tiny as that was the standard of beauty.

yes, it was definitely china and never japan. the “lotus” foot/shoe was the ideal, about three inches long.

Keep in mind that Chinese women did not bind their own feet. Young girls were subject to having their feet bound by others. This involved breaking the toes repeatedly and not only kept girls in pain, but limited their mobility and independence.

I mention this because people seem not to know what foot binding involved. The name sounds innocuous (sounds like a bandage), but it was actually a very awful practice, and probably not at all like what you imagine.

the chinese did the foot binding. but the japanese have very thick short white socks with a split toe that are worn with their traditional sandals, when wearing kimonos. it gives also a bit the look you might be thinking of. a very swaddled foot. i hope i am not too full of misinformation.

but i think the tradition of rope binding/bondage is japanese. at least the more beautiful examples of it.

ya and foot binding broke the bones over and over again. they couldn’t walk. my grandmother had some antique slippers. they were so tiny.

does glamour magazine still have the do’s and don’ts? because this girl will have a black tape over her eyes. i would bring back the foot binding just for this girl but with a ball chain so she does not leave her house. this is one of the biggest fashion faux pas along with the dress over jeans.

This just strikes me as extremely….unsanitary. To have her clothes all of New York sidewalks like that is just so gross!

And don’t knock dresses over jeans! That’s a great look!

Okay, so if you guys want to see the real thing, and if you are not too squamish, do a Google images search for the term “bound foot” and see what the process really entailed…

Geez Louise… I just read all the comments about foot binding, eeek!
Can we just get back to the point here? The point being: this girl managed to wear the long skinny jeans in a very sexy and enticing way! Brava! (Oh and by the way: both the skinny jeans and dress-over-jeans can look either fab or horrible, depending on how it’s done….)

I just wish I were able to wear skinny jeans… but I guess you have to know what goes with your figure (and also, what doesn’t!!) :-)

Could you ask the people you photograph where they buy their clothes and accessories? I don’t exactly live near NY, but you never know she bought those gorgeous shoes in a big chain …

The blue and orange tones complement each other very nicely. Perhaps that is because they are complementary colors.

I hope you have a good day!

I’d want to see the rest of the outfit, although to pull something off like the extra-long jeans-over-open-toe-shoes look and actually have it work probably means the rest of this woman looks good, too.

And I love that brilliant orange.

I love these cheeky shoes – so versatile; could be used to freshen up a dress or night-time style with tailored shorts!

Lets hope this trend never catches on. Ugly is an understatement. And, yes, talk about unhygenic. Can you imagine all those germs and dog poop on those sidewalks? How VERY attractive!!
