Exactly! there is nothing “To understand” he put some clothes on walked out having a fag. and he looks cool in his really ordinary outfit! Its not about fashion, its about style, and putting stuff together, not everyone has to look like anna della russo :D
I would agree with you if this style was common or uninteresting but after all, this is a style blog. It does not contain the label “widely favored clothing choices”, but instead “style”. This is a man’s personal style. And that is what the blog is about.
I actually think this is great! I live in Helsinki, Finland, and we have a growing subculture of this “smelly old fisherman combined w/ some Jacques Cousteau vibes”. Yeah, it’s a hipster thing. But some rock it so far that this is the exact look they’ve got. Lot of hilarious moments when you compare these real hobos to the trendy ones, you can tell them apart for trendy guys having an iPhone glued to their hands, hobo’s got a brown liquor bag. So this is fashion, another angle to it at least. I do not mean to laugh at the people who own this style, I enjoy it very much, don’t get me wrong! I feel like this picture is humorous and point-making at the same time, way to go! Love to see how people react to this!
Yes, it’s as if many people need an ‘OK’ from the designers or fashionistas in order to consider something stylish. But in truth, it’s people like this man that designers actually receive their inspiration from.
At this point of the debate the only conclusion one can get is that stylish people often smokes. I guess it should be of no surprise that those who put in risk their health are bolder at the time they go to their wardrove….
Sorry to have to say that Scott, but your picture is not very decent… It reminds me the “homeless inspired” fashion show of John Galliano several years ago. Style is a good thing, but not the only thing, and this guy would deserve more (a good old age pension for example) than fashion addicts ecstatics comments.
Great Photo…I did not think you were looking for fashion remarks though it seems like many like to create the look…what about living the lifestyle of hard work? He actually looks a lot like one of the professors at my school who won the Nobel a few years ago…maybe it is him : )
I think this look is over-glorified. Would you honestly, seeing him on the street think “Wow, this guy has great style!”? Sure, there is a story behind him, definitely, but I wouldn’t really look to him for inspiration, although in the overall collection of photos, his will for sure stand out.
This man reminds me of my Dad, not one thought about what he puts on in the morning, its for function and function only… I love the fact he could be an artist, intellect or hobo, but either way he has a rich story this picture makes me want to hear! Another beautiful unexpected capture :)
The gentleman is probably not homeless. I more or less look the same on weekends. The boots he is wearing are manufactured by Aigle, are much better than fashionable Hunter boots and come at 120 Euros.
This man’s face alone screams volumes about a life lived. This is what I love about ‘street’ photos of ‘real’ people as opposed to true fashion shots where the subjects drip in designer labels. This photo is stirring up emotions and debate, which is what true art does. And this man and the photograph are art. I love it, if only for the stories this man conjures up in my imagination.
He has a sort of quiet elegance that does not depend on fancy labels or this week’s trends. I’ll bet that he understands & respects the relationship between function and form. And I think he looks lovely.
I think what makes this outfit so interesting is that he combines such ordinary/working clothes with very stylish (or at least recently stylish) jeans. Personally I think the best looks will have some sort of surprise factor and this definitely does. Love everything about this photo.
I know this guy, he work in “rue de Bretagne” fish shop in Paris, he have an authentic parisian accent and he is a really nice guy!
I also think that it’s a really good idea to publish here this picture… sofistication and money never give beauty and never replace his authenticity.
This guy have a face and an attitude wich could easily take place of many model and “couture collections”…
Sorry for this bad english (I’m a little froggy) and thanks again for this publication, I will print this for him (he have no internet!) and I’m sure he will be very proud of it!
Some of these comments are so pompous and pretentious. How about just appreciating this image for what it is? Maybe even seek some inspiration from it. Some people still have REAL jobs and dress for practicality.
this is interesting, I love to see someone other than the young and beautiful on here for a change, the look is a funny one though, from the waist down I totally get it, it could be any trendy guy, and the boots are amazing…waist up though… not so much.
