Could the colors be more perfect? The textures and folds, the details of each layer of each garment are so evident. A weathered face and knuckles, with a little smile for you. Thank you for this image.

    Scott,

With all respect, do you think that posting this sort of photo… this sort of cultural dress on a blog such as yours… is in poor contrast to the high fashion you often shoot?

I like this stuff more! It is more real, and I wish you would shoot more ‘real’ fashion. I’d much rather see what people are wearing around the world than what fashionistas wear outside of the fashion show.

On the other hand, if you contrast this with those shots, this feels almost exploitative… “Look at these cultural traditions that you can exploit to sell more clothes…”

But who am I to judge? Nobody. I just want to create debate and a discussion is all!

This photos take the concept of “pop of colour” to a whole new dimension, given the backdrop.

Loden is wonderful on the Scottish, brights are incredible in South America, the intricate pattern of Indian saris, the rich dark brown wood interiors of Bali. On and on.

Around the world, people just know. They just do.

Beautiful pictures of the Peruvian Indians and traditional markets, Scott. But I have a question for you. I am Colombian, and the Indians at the traditional markets here do not like to have their pictures taken. The markets are not at all touristy (not too many tourists travel to the high mountain ranges in Colombia), so I don’t think it has much to do with either feeling exploited or with using the situation to take advantage of a niave gringa (blonde hair and blue eyes I don’t look very ‘Colombian’)…but when an outsider shows up with a camera the locals ask you to put the camera away, or if you take their picture they ask to be paid. Did you encounter resistance? Did you ask before taking photos? What was the subject’s reaction? I can’t imagine you presented yourself as a fashion blogger, or did you? Just curious…
