This looks like jersey, I like the way it hangs. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a jersey dress. Or perhaps it’s crepe de chine. Either way, it hangs beautifully. Is it vintage? It looks very nice with the flat shoes, another thing I’m seeing a lot of this summer in the collections in the mags, flat shoes. The bare legs accentuate the fact that it’s almost summer there, and the bare arms. How lovely.
She looks so sassy:)

Sartorialist – I’ve been following your blog for about a year now and I never comment but it just came to mind today: you always photograph tall women. Perhaps they are better for the camera view but what about all of the petite beauties you see in NY..? And, I might add – it is quite difficult for all of us to find pants that fit…Any suggestions..?
We love the photos in a retro style. And this picture is like that. The style girls – it is an eternal classic – little black dress with white collar. Stunning photography. Love it!
Love the flat shoes. My lifestyle is definitely not conducive to teetering around in heels, so I love seeing stylishly dressed women who don’t look like they’re risking a broken ankle with every step.
lovely picture. so natural, so effortless, so beautiful.
I love the oldies you have but you know what I’d love to see that I haven’t yet… I timeline…this stylish person as such an age and then again another stylish picture years later and then again years later….seeing people who have style all there lives. Just an idea.
I love the vintage style! The shoes, oh the shoes are lovely. The dress in amazing. Sometimes I can’t believe that some thing that are so cool are left behind. I am glad people are willing to bring back styles, and clothes.
Simply timeless… She exudes effortless beauty + glamour. I love the juxtaposition of her against the old buildings in the background. It adds a sense of authenticity to the black and white shot. Gorgeous!
I’m always amazed by the difference one detail makes: with heels this look would be prissy and ordinary; with those oxfords, however, it’s down-to-earth and graceful. She makes me think of a modern Irene Dunne.
Perfect for black & white. As I read once, “color is for shooting fashion. Black and white is for shooting the soul.” Wish I could remember who said that.
Wow, really nice. Her shiny (gold?) accessories make the outfit. That plus the shoes. She really looks natural and effortlessly great! And that material of the dress is so flowy yet dressy, it has a little shine and looks great in black. Right choice to make this black & white.
I’ve been following for a while, but never commented. I admired this picture for about 30 minutes. I love how refined her face looks, but the wavy hair also gives a playful nonchalance. Also, she has a commanding and powerful presence, but also graceful. The shoes just complete it all.
