IÂ thought this was such a great play on the mixing of textures, scale, color and proportion. Â If the knit was much longer it would have given her a more square, boxy look. Â Getting the inward curve of the high hip gives the eye a smaller line to look at around the waist. Basically, a well proportioned knit can can drop inches off your waistline. Â Â ![]()

Your observations are true, but it is very hard to find a knit that “Chunky” which is also fitted and not too long. This woman must be rather tall.

March 27, 2013 at 10:42 am
That’s a great point. I think that heavy knits in generally are very difficult if you also want something that’s somewhat form-fitting. As a tall man, I always find them to be too square, too short, or too long and overly baggy. A good knit IS hard to find in this regard.

Knits are great but I find the same issue with them you mention. I’m very V built and like more form-fitted clothing. Knits tend to make me look a bit cartoonish like Johnny Bravo.

Beautiful outfit! Love birds patterned pants very much.
I quite agree that it’s hard to find perfect knit. As for me i solved this problem by knitting things by myself.
Here is an example of my recently made sweater: http://meddle.us/detail.php?lang=en&category=&color=&id=sweater_feathers

No… you could just shrink a larger knit. And many cuts are like that now. Love the color scheme.
Again, it’s blue/navy. Always works. Whatever it is. Of course this is a superawesome combination, which has all simple elements (i.e. wearable) but very creative in the pattern choices.
The cut of the pant is also superb. Tapered at the bottom, and not too loose on the top.

Agree re: the proportions – great observation. Agree with Diane – she must be tall.
It’s a cool look, but something about it looks a touch overdone, or trying to hard-ish ….

I am almost positive that she knitted the sweater herself. It’s an easy pattern and very basic shape. That’s why she could make it just right. Also her scarf/wrapper is very original and could be ‘home made’ also. If yes – she has a lot of imagination!

Like! A lot. The colors, the textures, the smile and especially the shoes. I relly have a thing for tractor soles. They add depth and function to what could have been “mere fashion”.

There is so much to love about this entire outfit and I want every one of those pieces! In addition to loving the sweater, blouse, pants, shoes, and scarf, I am also noticing how well it all fits her. Fit really is the key. I guess the secret there is to either have a great tailor or learn how to alter clothes yourself.
Thanks for sharing this terrific, aspirational outfit!

I agree with everything Sart. writes except for his bit about her pants. I think that they would have been more effective if solid or if a very small repetitive pattern. These pants make this lady look like she left home in her pajama pants.

I love the outfit in every way. Can’t say I think the proportion is flattering. I think its making her torso look long. But the coolness factor is way through the roof and if I had that sweater I would wear it with everything. AND THE SHOES!! Woo. Love the way she wrapped the scarf and left the shirt untucked. The best thing is that it looks like she is trying not to laugh.

Bang on! I would wear this exact outfit, head to toe, and I’m a guy. Which is not to say she looks androgynous, not at all, but that it’s a very versatile look. I’d say men or women can use each of the items everyday in a number of different ways.

I’m so much into colours and proportions myself, and love to play the game and take advantage every time I can!
This is a really cute and funny look, and the way she combined the textures it works, and it even has that casual chic I love so much mixing knitted sweater with rather classic peaces.
And it’s warm!!! I personally can’t go out in the winter (we still suffer winter temperatures here..) without really warm scarves, sweaters and hats.
thanks for your work
