this whole look is incredible and just slightly off kilter. both the hat and the trench are such traditional items but they have been completely turned on their head. i adore this look and her simple calm posture. gorgeous photo. the hat is just one part of what makes it so captivating. xx
Hmm. I think I would have liked this better with matching white Russian veiling, not black, which can be barely seen here. Great idea..perfect for that one glove without its mate!
Wow I love this.I have a very eccentric family which used to embarrass me as a teenager now im like 'bring it on' eccentric my behind. Fashion forward more like.
I find this adorable. Who can not think the glove hat is not cute. She is very put together and a little eccentric at the same time. It makes for an interesting photo. I'd love to see it in black and white for a more artistic standpoint.
The trench is a normal trench that she modified, no? The sleeves are pinned back and attached somehow and she made new holes for her arms to go through. Or is this not her original creation?
My mom's told me stories about women pinning gloves or handkerchiefs into their hair when they forgot to bring their hats to church in pre-Vatican II days. This looks like a fun take on that tradition. (and while I don't usually like trench coats–yes, I know, I'm a fashion heretic–I like the odd little cape-coat thingie, too.)
do you want know when "fashionables" westerns (we all!) will get in that perspex / sense of style and attitude? sorry to say: NEVER! EFFORTLESS DI-VI-NE!
The coat combined with the grid print shirt dress is fab and obviously the "glove hat" ha! fantastic. I like it how she tones the outfit down with the casual looking scarf so she doesn't look too serious… or she could have borrowed it off her boyfriend coz she was cold?? :) winnsomesmile.blogspot.com
Love the dress & coat, but I would think the hat looks odd; like someone on the last train accidentally dropped their gloves on her head. The rest is fabulous, though!
I personally hate that jacket. Leighton Meester wore it on an episode of Gossip Girl and I couldn't help giggling that she looked like a box with arms that could barely rest at her sides. However, on this woman, awkwardness is beauty. She is wearing a pair of gloves on her head, for crying out loud! This woman can pull off anything.
The trench-cape is just an awful garment, I hope it will be a very short-lived trend. This girl has true natural beauty, and she is really carrying the strange glove-hat very well, but sorry: the cape just spoils the whole look.
I think she made the cape from an old trench, so kudos to her for such originality. Speaking of which… the whole thing is so original, it's breathtaking.
Is that really her hat or is she at some event requiring head covering? (She does look like she's waiting for something.)
Is any one else old enough to remember when hats were required for women in Catholic churches (this is pre-Vatican II) and certain civil ceremonies? (Recall the to-do when HM Queen Elizabeth did not wear a hat to Charles and Camilla's wedding.) Back then if one had to step into a sanctuary unexpectedly it was acceptable to put your gloves on your head so it was "covered." To me is screams, "I forgot my hat!"
I wonder if the designer was inspired by some old photographs. For me the association makes it look jury-rigged rather than stylish.
It's so interesting to me how when I look at a new photo, I have an immediate, overall, reaction. And then I read some of the comments and something makes me look again. In this case, the colors, are, interesting. But overall, the woman seems unable to make up her mind. The hat is clever and unusual, but it gets lost in the outfit….the coat is different..but not practical. If it's cold enough for a wool scarf, maybe some sleeves would be a good idea? I can appreciate the effort.
yeah its to much for me too.. come on.. glove hat?,.. maybe she forgot them there, just saying!, anyway.. i love your blog :) saying hi from argentina!
Great Coincidence…!! One of my hat desings from my latest collection is quite similar to that one!! But it also have a ring on it!! Pure Vintage…Do you want to have a look??? Come and see masQmay…By the way…great photo she's pale and shy, but cannot avoid the eyes on her, is what she's looking for…
I think this either must be genius or crazy, but in any case it's nice to see someone who has their own sense of style. ~Dana http://www.dailydoseofdana.tumblr.com
this is my friend toi! i love the quirkiness of the glove hat, as well as her coat and cardigan… she is something truly quite unique when you consider what other people living in shanghai dress like…
the cardigan is from chinese designer uma wang (http://umawang.com/en/), definitely the top designer in china right now… but toi is a great designer in her own right as well! if you want to follow their work and the work of other chinese designers, please visit:

It is her grave and beautiful face, her containment and air of strict discipline that make this outfit exsquisite and timeless.

I think this either must be genius or crazy, but in any case it's nice to see someone who has their own sense of style.

this is my friend toi! i love the quirkiness of the glove hat, as well as her coat and cardigan… she is something truly quite unique when you consider what other people living in shanghai dress like…
the cardigan is from chinese designer uma wang (http://umawang.com/en/), definitely the top designer in china right now… but toi is a great designer in her own right as well! if you want to follow their work and the work of other chinese designers, please visit:

The coat… A full trench version in black would be an sartorial adventure.
