All gorgeous, but #2 is my favorite. The way she clutches her dress like she’s nervous, but seems so confident and stunning at the same time. So beautiful.

the first is the best only because, her slip is showing and that is both literally and figuratively – since you caught her unknowingly showing her underlacies!

It’s unusual to see the hem-lifting gesture with a shorter dress or skirt. I see it quite often with long skirts and dresses like the last shot here, although the double lift is, again, a little unusual. Well captured!

I love the peek of the lacy slip in the first shot! I think we’ve lost the sense of mystery of undergarments like slips and camisoles. Can anyone remember, “Your slip is showing?” Who would say that today? And not only that, if you’re wearing a slip, you probably want it to show. It’s just another layer, you know. Anyhow, let’s bring back the slip! Men will appreciate it especially.

WOW. The third picture is too awesome! The sort of hard and boxy structure/silhouette of her sweater combined with the fluidity and grace of her skirt is amazing. Plus, it’s then paired with converse sneakers! Cool girl, I like it :)

Love the candid shots – they really do capture a different mood than the posed ones – really like peeking into the subject’s life.
The clutching of the fabric reminds me of the way kids clutch their security blankets – when we’re anxious or nervous as adults, perhaps we instinctively reach for fabric and do the same?

I have watched your blog for years now and can’t tell you how much it has helped me develop a real sense of style, rather than just fashion, wearing things I consciously select and reflect who I am and feel.
During this years I got to discover how you selected your pictures, with people looking out of the boundaries, but also with amazing looks, and looking natural, most of the times without posing, and those are really amazing shots.
The second picture looks great, with the girl wearing such basic things, but looking sort of fragile.
I hope I wrote it well, I’m from Argentina. (Loved the pictures you took in Buenos Aires)
Good luck!

.. uh, maybe number 3- but I wouldn’t be so sure about “unconscious” !
many a woman’s makeup and hair ‘look’ is that ‘studied disarray’.
think of the gorgeous English garden. cultivated wildness.

December 22, 2012 at 9:52 am
I don’t know anyone over the age of, say, 5 or six who pulls up their skirt unconsciously. At infant school clutching at your hem was the universal signal for “I’ve peed my pants”! Of all the unconscious gestures, it is certainly one of the most unusual!

I, too, prefer pictures where people don’t pose. I still think the girls in the first two pictures, at least, are selfconscious. Fiddling or clutching your own clothes is, if not for practical reasons, generally done because of selfconsciousness. Nice photos either way.
