I love this ballsy look! I love the unfinished edges on the skirt details, I love the color of that sweater and the way she’s worn it with that skirt (would I ever have thought of pair the two?) and I love the printed (painted?) clutch. So many good details in one small shot!

Love it! That blue against the red/green/cream is awesome. Then your eyes come to those boots. Wasn’t expecting them but they work. It makes you want to just keep looking. It feels good.

The tartan skirt is fabulous and it works great with the blue sweater. I have one in the same style from Peter Jensen http://www.lavenue.com/ro/peter-jensen/pulover-tricotat-din-lana/1254

If a peplum skirt could ever be considered punk, then yes. She has made a rather boring kilt into a peplum shaped success. Or whoever made the skirt did so.

This photo made me smile fondly, for I love tartan. I wonder if this young woman is wearing a tartan kilt with a added panel front and back. In any case, very original with a great choice of shoes (brogues ?)
I’m just questionning the side of the skirt. Is it the angle of the photo or is the skirt too large ?

  29. M.

    December 7, 2012 at 7:55 am

Well, call me a dullard, but I’d rather have the kilt before it got torn.

Love the bright blue with the bright red.

It’s always so refreshing to see a real aesthetic behind one’s fashion choices. This is not about being on-trend; it’s about creativity and a real sense of style. Love it, love it, love it.

Ugh. Way to wreck a nice skirt. I’m unsophisticated, apparently. If the skirt hadn’t been destroyed, this would be a great outfit.

    • Martine

      December 8, 2012 at 3:45 pm

She didn’t destroy it. She changed the shape to make it useable. From a conservative and rather boring kilt to a two sided flare. I doubt she would ever wear a simple kilt skirt. They are “nice”. But they are really unflattering, and they just scream dowdy.

Just fabulous! Love that reconstructed kilt, & it looks great with the sweater. Once the boots get a little wear’n'tear on them this look will be darn close to perfect.

I have a skirt just like that! (Without the rip though ;) Mine is vintage Ann Taylor (probably from the late 80′s) and is made of chifforn. You got to love tartan.

Wonderful idea, and perfect execution. Take a kilt, and put the pleats on both sides to create a peplum shape, but leave the edges raw to keep the punk sensibility. And that blue is always a win.
