I think it was Emerson who said something to the effect of this. No, it was Leonardo De Vinci.
Genius is found in everyday common things. I think this blog is a testament to that.
There is not much wiggle room here as LDV was arguably the smartest man who ever lived.
I love this Blog and when I look at your stuff, I think to myself, I could do that.
The point I think is that I dont.
Keep doing what you do.Looking at your work is salubrious and I look forward to seeing
what you stumbled upon.
The one with the cigarette is going to have a serious back problem before she gets 35 if she continues to stand in that position! Great picture really.
Love the black lace dress but can’t bear any of the shoes. More smoking! Are cigarettes chic again? Don’t want to appear awful but they don’t have nice legs. There is a saying in the UK – mutton dressed as lamb . . .
Excellent photos that reveal the human zoo. Many thanks for posting them Scott
In these modern times I don’t think we should be talking about how cool it is to be smoking. A lot of young people look at this blog and may be influenced by what they read.
I think everybody has the right to choose and try whatever he likes, I also think high platform shoes are risky for a girl’s safety, but nobody preaches about how dangerous they can be, so please stop making a cigarette look like it was the only evil, since in fashion world 99% of the people smoke, and not only. Also, going bare legs with this north italian cold winter is much more risky for your health… Ciao ciao from Milan.
And I love this shot. The women are so perfectly Italian and perfectly stylish, even though when you look again it seems clear they aren’t nineteen year-olds with perfect bodies, they’ve made themselves gorgeous. Even the angle of the finger about to tap the ash of the cigarette (and of course we all think smoking is dire), it isn’t posed like some smoking shots, she’s absorbed in talking to her friends out of shot. The clothes and shoes are all gorgeous but what’s amazing is we can extrapolate a whole fabulous conversation – and a nice chunk of Italian street life – going on over our heads from this little vignette.
The boots of the lady with the cigarette look really uncomfortable, because she seems to try very hard to keep the balance. I dont like shoes that wear you … to have a good look also means to me, to feel comfortable …
Is she wearing socks with buttons? Or could those be repurposed vintage gloves? Whichever, what a great idea! (But I am seriously concerned seeing the cigarette burning so close to the delicate lace…)
Damn! Is it that warm in Milan???
Or was it…?
I so envy them if it is! Wish I can be barefoot in my gorgeous heels instead of fighting snow and blizzards in Uggs and biker boots every day…
Great captured moment as always and love the ciggie in it even I know it’s forbidden :O
This is a beautiful monochrome ensembles trio, captured artfully by Scott as always. I think the lace skirt look so great because of the contrast between it and the amber pins it graces. I have a similar skirt and would love to wear it this way, without tights… But I have dreadful varicose veins, brought on by heavy smoking in my youth. They were the best accessory I ever had. Good luck to the smoker in front… She may get to her 40s without ‘em sprouting, but I wouldn’t put money on it.
One thing often seen with women wearing high heels : hyperextension of the legs, like they have no more tonus… not very beautiful and surely not very good for the legs !
Sorry, I think they look cheap, the bare legs with the heels, the badly fitting black mini, the cigarette. After reading these posts, I’m surprised by the number that say this looks sexy. In what country?

Knees are not meant to hyper extend like that. She should practice unlocking her knees, it will definitely make a difference in her future comfort.
