thank you for sharing your amazing talent as well as the incredible style and spirits from the streets. living in a small midwest town (green bay, wi), i crave the kinda people watching that you provide at its height, so thank you for providing me with inspiration and true beauty. last year i got a copy of your book and it is beautiful, again, thank you for sharing with the world. loved the documentary too! namaste, shadia
A little over the top, but not out of the ballpark. I have to say I love it. I'm loving the mixture of black, and different hues of navy. The hat is great, the double wrap belt even better, the scarf to die for. Even the chicken necklace somehow works. Yes, she's styling "hard core" and I want her outfit. Nicely put together.
I really am loving this look – not for everyone but she wears it with confidence and looks beautiful being her. I am also a sucker for anything with birds. Much love, B
Wish my trousers fit me like that. She'd be super cute without the necklace – but it makes the outfit that much more interesting. Nice contrast against all the dark.
The colour palette is what strikes me. There have been only very few changes in shapes (well, there have been some but they have not been as dramatic as when, say, Hedi Slimane introduced his slim line) but there definitely is an early 2010s approach to colours.
Love everything except the stuffed chicken around her neck. BUT I do love that she is rocking her own style…and I suppose that is what fashion is about, right? Taking risks!
I think she nailed it. Proportion, texture, layering–check. The scarf is gorgeous and sophisticated, kind of an oversized ascot. The belt, furry hat and bag-yes, yes and yes. And I actually think the bird works here. It breaks up the field of blue, and personalizes the look in a way that's whimsical without being ridiculous. I kind of get who she is because of that bird. I'm hoping she works with children, because kids would really be drawn to her. Cute as a bug's ear, that one.
Lydia had a field trip with her young students today and knew they would love the rooster around her neck more than anything. The hat was for her, not the kids; she felt like she was doing a play on the whole American thing today – rooster, cowboy like hat…giddup!
I love the entire playfull take on the outfit; the (amazing!) bird neclace, along with the cat-ear impersonation(sorry for my irregular perspective to describing what i see) ,places a somewhat smile on your face; as well as the querry of wondering what shoes she may be wearing; i'm thinking maybe armadillo? X Neda X http://stylemontage-neda.blogspot.com/
Goodness gracious! So unique! So whimsical! Is there an extra flap of fabric on the back of the hat?
I think this is a fun look. I don't think I'd wear it myself, but I could definitely use some elements of it for inspiration for my personal style. Not sure about the size of the bird, it doesn't really cohere with the rest of the outfit. It's certainly the star of the show! Personally, I think that the scarf could be the focal piece, because of its pattern. Maybe the bird could be a smaller element? Like, if the scarf were tucked in a certain way, and the bird was pinned on to secure it…
It's a really fun look, though! I appreciate that she kept the colors simple and muted.
I too think that there is something afoot with the colours we've been seeing for 2011. Dark, dramatic, and whimsical too. The bird necklace is a needed piece of whimsy in an otherwise somber outfit.
Without the chicken, she would just be another stylish woman. The chicken (and to a certain extent, the hat) gives insight into who she is. I like her!
This is a bold outfit. I like certain elements of it, such as the bird necklace, belt, pants and scarf. However, combining all of these things is a bit much. She seems to have a very unique style, which I appreciate. Keep rocking it, girl!
This is a bold outfit. I like certain elements of it, such as the bird necklace, belt, pants and scarf. However, combining all of these things is a bit much. She seems to have a very unique style, which I appreciate. Keep rocking it, girl!
her big collar as a "hen" is so original. I also love everything she is wearing : her scarf, her hat, her pant, her belt, and the way she is wearing all this, her attitude.
I'm sure there is a background story with the chicken. I bet she does not wear it everyday but good on her for making it part of the day you photographed. I think it looks great as does the belt, the jacket, her wonderful eyebrows. What a cool and inspired look.
Why is it really cool people on the street are NEVER wearing the clothes from the fashion shows?
Now this I like! This is a really easy and personal style – not contrived at all like many I´ve seen on your blog. Isn´t it wonderful how people differ in their taste in style? While I´m really liking the hat and the crocheted chicken, others are telling her to lose it..
I think her entire outfit is awesome… Love the scarf, and the necklace is quite strange- but somehow works well with her personality… She carries it proudly.
Something tells me that there is an interesting story behind the bird. So while I may not like the hat, her overall look makes me want to know something more about her. At the very least if I saw her walking down the street I would have to smile and appreciate someone who doesn't hesitate to bring something original to her look.
Studying the way the scarf is just looped somewhere at the collar area. The scarf makes the outfit for me but so many interesting elements. This is one of my top 10 ever faves. I love the way she looks the camera in the eye.
You find some truly incredible looks and people on the streets! I was struck by the similarity of shapes made by different elements of her attire – rounded edge isosceles triangles (hat, head, bird, scarf…). Perky quirky.
That´s Milan, only in Milan, style, class, good products, high quality and that slightly charming appel, like as if she´s not caring all that much for anything
I live the city which the new tv series "Portlandia" and I'm thinking of the tongue in cheek refrain, "Add a bird and call it art." Great look overall, though I would happily live without the bird necklace.
Rock on, Milana! With that open, sweet smile, she could wear any necklace she wanted (although I can't think of anything more quirky and asynchronous than a yarn bird with button eyes) and STILL be absolutely stunning. Attitude is everything, and this lovely sweetness showing through is what makes this bird a cute chick instead of an albatross.
surprisingly, this eclectic outfit works FABULOUSLY. Her cocky hat and chicken necklace add an unexpected twist and with her billowing scarf and tonal touches, she is set to be a trend-setter. (I kind of want a chicken, now!) xxx
This look just makes me smile. She has great style, and whether you love or hate the bird necklace, she obviously doesn't take herself or her look too seriously (a lesson that a lot of fashionistas have yet to learn…)
Love her style..and especially the way you photograph people.. the next time you walk in Corso Concordia stopped to browse in my English antique shop Le stanze della memoria. Will find that we are keeping. One of your admirer. Elisabetta.
oh that birdie necklace and the scarf! LOVE it. She adds quirky little touches to an otherwise boring-as-usual-all-black outfit and gets away with it. Is it her pretty face? Her hat? I think its the attitude and confidence; and her fine thin frame. OH…how I wish I am as thin and lanky. :)

Something tells me that there is an interesting story behind the bird. So while I may not like the hat, her overall look makes me want to know something more about her. At the very least if I saw her walking down the street I would have to smile and appreciate someone who doesn't hesitate to bring something original to her look.

I think I may copy her use of button holes for a scarf this Spring. It looks so original on her.
She is so American inspired. This month's issue of Vogue briefly discusses our influence in Europe and this is a great example.
Also, if she is wearing make-up, it's perfect! That is just what I hope to achieve with mine.

Rock on, Milana! With that open, sweet smile, she could wear any necklace she wanted (although I can't think of anything more quirky and asynchronous than a yarn bird with button eyes) and STILL be absolutely stunning. Attitude is everything, and this lovely sweetness showing through is what makes this bird a cute chick instead of an albatross.

oh that birdie necklace and the scarf! LOVE it. She adds quirky little touches to an otherwise boring-as-usual-all-black outfit and gets away with it. Is it her pretty face? Her hat? I think its the attitude and confidence; and her fine thin frame. OH…how I wish I am as thin and lanky. :)
