I had no idea who this was when I shot her. I mean, I know who Corinne Bailey Rae is; I just didn’t know this was her! I think I would expect to see her in London, but it didn’t connect for some reason here in NYC.
I think it’s so interesting when you meet someone like Corinne, who is so artistically gifted - and able to express that gift not only through the instrument of her voice but also the execution of her style.

The dress starts out so fabulous and then loses shape by the time it hits her knees. It needs to be more fitted, and not just with a belt. The sides need to be taken in and the back will need a vent pleat. Vavavavoom it.

Really nice outfit, I so want her hair ! I love the dress between modern because of the shape of the sleeves and traditional because of the pattern which is the typical you can find in Africa. Ladies in Africa use to go much more to see a tailor than us in Europe, it is not like you can find a Zara or a Balenciaga shop in the cities, and some of the results of what they are wearing is like Corinne dress :D. For me it is as if she brought a piece of African fashion to us.

I had the same exact experience in New York! I stopped her to take her picture because I loved her dress. It was only later when I kept looking at her picture that I realized who she was. She is stunning and so nice. A picture can’t really capture her beauty.

@Jessica, I thought the print on that dress (along with the puffed sleeves and modest neckline) was an African print…it looks fresh with the shoes. I like it alot.
CBR always has a fresh innocence to her but with her hair grown out, she definitely looks more womanly.
I like that she doesn’t have to call attention to herself by showing off her “wares” but that her talent exudes from her pores and through her style. More Americans should take lessons from her.

I passed her on 5th Ave right as she was exiting Bergdorf. She’s beautiful in person as well. I quickly professed my love for her music as she dashed by and gave an obligatory smile :-)
