the texture and color of the first outfit compliment her skin and hair colour and puncutates her already long legs. Eye-catching but not in a “look at me” way. Chic.
The second outift plays the hat well but it is very age inapproriate. Frankly, denim and a skull shirt crosses the line into trashy and doesn’t do anyone any favours.
She knows what she’s doing congratulations!! sexy, femenin, playful, not taking fashion to seriously I love these two pictures, I’ll jump into my closet right now to see what can be done..
Carine Roitfeld is sp stylish. Who says that only 20somethings are sexy. She wears mini skirts with class and style. I wish American culture would appreciate an older woman.
Another older knockout without a load of plastic surgery is Helen Mirren.
It’s also proof that attitude plays such a huge part in how you’re perceived. The top photo just exudes class, and the bottom casual playfulness. Great! theMark, Tokyo
The dress and shoes look gorgeous in the top pic. The hat needs to go in both pics though. In fact, the whole ensemble in the second picture needs to go!
i believe you’ve photographed her in the nude dress above once before. it’s very refreshing to see someone so high-profile use accessories to revamp their look.
That’s quite an interpretation of the flapper dress in — jersey, is it? Interesting. Wouldn’t suit me at all, but interesting.
The denim skirt and black tee is more in my line, though I’d nix the skull (I’m just not into deathwear) and super-high heels. For me anyway. I’d fall off of them. The hat — do like.
This woman is awesome: part gothic muse and punk rock mistress and all deadly sleek chic. Carine (along with Melanie Ward) are two of the greatest stylist this industry has to offer– no hype, just pure brilliance. Her work at French Vogue is inspiration.
I’m just a bit green with eny you work with her Sart ;-)
she eminates ease in both pictures but more elegant and ethereal she becomes in the first. Her body is art and she is caught with the picture in time…a shapely and statuesque monument of effortlessness. HB
I actually surprise myself by saying that I like both looks on her. I do love the way that she makes the heels and hat work so differently with the two looks. We’ve seen her in that dress before. Cool. I have to laugh – no at but with the first commenter – but I can’t see anyone going out “for a walk” in those heels, plus or minus the denim. ;-)
Scott I walked pass you on the street today! But I was in a bad mood (mad at my boss) so I didn’t say hi… Well, hope to run into you again and would definitely say hi!
Well, come on. It’s Carine. Would you expect less? The girl can’t help it.
She’s got a rockin’ body and unreproachable good taste/style (as she should with her job). But still her eyes and her smile are her best features IMO.
Her casual style is especially righteous to me. Although I wouldn’t personally rock 4″ heels with a denim skirt she works the hell out of it. Love the hat too. I even dig the shoes although normally I really hate gladiators – they’re much too fashionable to be interesting but Carine knows how to pull it together in a very organic way and she never looks like the clothes are wearing her. She makes it look effortless.
i love the neutral colours of the top outfit.. i appreciate how she shows that statement shoes can still be a nude-coloured and elongate the legs instead some of the terrible clunky shoes that dont suit many leg shapes.. and i agree with several people above that the second outfit is merely passable – probably only because it is miss roitfeld!
the skull tee/denim skirt combo doesn’t quite work… esp with these heels and hat. don’t see anything about it that is stylish. i am surprised people like the outfit at all.
It is interesting that she is only carrying a small wallet and then a small clutch. Does she have the huge chiropractor bills that I do from carrying huge handbags? Oh how I pray they will go out of style!
I’m not a devotee of her, but I do like one of these two. She has this way of adapting “americana” into her style like no other (specially in her editorials).
I believe The New York Times used a picture of her in the Nude Alaia yesterday (styles section). Your posting, though, is better: we can see how she uses her hat and shoes for two completely different outfits. Moral of the posting- look at everything that is being offered for the season, think of what you already got in your closet, and go for a few pieces that you can wear to the bitter end! Gorgeous Carine(!)Always with her fantastic shoes! The second picture is not very flattering though… She’s the incarnation of “le chic parisien..” Thank you for the pictures!
Wow, I wish I could agree with the majority here, but that hat simply does not fit her head! It is perched there and looks like it’s about to tumble off. The beige dress, however, and the sandals are very, very chic!
she knows exactly what shes doing with every outfit… i would never think that hat would look good with that dress but i am sadly mistaken! she looks so fabulous and mysterious in the first picture!
The beige dress is horrible: the trim around the neckline, the runching, the whole thing looks like it’s off a second-rate market stall somewhere in a middle-English town. The one thing I can find to say in its favour is that her figure looks stunning in it.
The second photo is even worse! It reminds me of something from, say, New Look’s ‘teen’ collection.
So sultry! So sexy! So chic! Carine Roitfeld is one of the only women who can make a jean skirt look elegant! And that nude dress is just stunning, especially with the monochromatic shoes and hat!
This is the first time this summer that I’ve seen those open-toed boots (or are these hybrid gladiators?) and they don’t make me want to hurl. They actaully look good in these applications! Positively amazing. I like both looks. And she’s 53?! I’ll be 50 in November of this year. What an inspiration. I hope someone wants to take my picture when I’m walking down the street (or sitting in a chair, or eating a sandwich, whatever I happen to be doing at the moment)LOL
Precisely the reason why I read Vogue Paris instead of Vogue US. Ms. Roitfeld’s magazine truly brings the reader into a fashion experience, one that hasn’t been seen since that late 80′s and early 90′s. She is fashion. I love her…
What I love about her is that she's an iconoclast. Made wearing white shoes with black tights ok out of season. One year she'll say furs and handbags are Out(with her) The following year, she'll wear both. I rember one time her wearing a strange beige skirt that would look horrible on anyone but she pulls it off.
Love the heels, denim skirt and t-shirt – great look ! But I am sorry, you have to loose that hat – it ruins the whole outfit. Another hat could work, if it was more ‘fitted’ maybe …. but that looks like something Grandad would go fishing in.

What I love about her is that she's an iconoclast. Made wearing white shoes with black tights ok out of season. One year she'll say furs and handbags are Out(with her)
The following year, she'll wear both.
