On the Street…Bus Stop, Milan

61818ManzoniC9309IG

So many people tell me that their favorite photos on The Sartorialist are the chic, old Italian gentleman.

They’re not easy to find, especially in a situation that’s shootable, but when you do find them it’s so rewarding.

Jenny and I spotted this guy at the exact same moment as we sped by in our car on the way to a fashion show in Milan.

We both yelled “did you see him??” We stopped the car immediately and I popped out to try and get the shot, luckily it worked.

As much as everyone says they love the chic old men I wonder what this breed will look like in 40 years…I hope he’s not wearing a knit beanie, a supreme tee, baggie shorts and dad sneakers.

He looks great. That suit is pretty fresh looking for the heat.

40 years from now? Probably vastly overpriced footie pajamas, and bragging that they can’t even remember ties.

I will in all likelihood not be here in 40 years but as long as I am around the dapper gentlemanly style will be, too. I was in college when the “sweat pants” escaped the gym and hit the streets. The downward spiral since then has seemingly engulfed and overwhelmed the form of ageless style this gentleman, my late father and others before them represented. But it lives with some of us — give me my Stetson and walking cane — getting ready to step out.

thank you so much for not overlooking the old

it is part of self-respect to dress as chic as you can afford, even in old age + I hope this will be affordable also in the future

but please, please bring also pictures of old ladies too,
    it is always so inspirational

Looking crisp on a hot day? Not an easy task for the young, so just imagine for the elderly. A lovely shot, but to thank your subject, I would have given him a lift.
