As one who owns, commutes and races bicycles, I love any bike shot. But, the lack of helmet always troubles me. Someone needs to make/design a nice looking helmet for the sartorially advanced, as there are for scooters/Vespas.
A timeless photograph…My first innitiative for this man would be Wall Street; there is such a Upper West side euphoria to him and his presence, perhaps minus the ancient bike…he seems…compelling…Or maybe the black and white colourings of this photo is arousing such narrative within me…
@Terentius. I buy your view too, and a helmet would look terrible on this gentleman. But not in major metropolitan Cities – even with bike handling skills there are so many bad drivers and that is something I can’t control. I let it slide in the country – I’ll die happy with with wind in my hair.
completely agree with Anthony C about helmets for bicycles, but I fear they are too thin to make any hard head wear look good. Great pic though.

I am a big fan of black and white photography because it allows you to focus on the composition and subject instead of being distracted by all those colors.
The Italians have elevated bicycle riding to such a level of elegance. The man on this bike looks beautifully dressed, well-groomed and successful….on a bike! Wow. He wouldn’t look better even if he were driving a Ferrari.
I agree with Anthony C., he needs a helmet! Also, how does he prevent bike chain grease from getting on those sleek, tailored pants? I would like to know so I can ride my bicycle around town dressed just as stylishly.
