i know this is everyone’s favorite jacket these days… but i’m just going to go ahead and say that i don’t like it. i don’t find it flattering on anyone i’ve seen it on so far. where is her neck??
Just beautiful. Can’t find words to describe how I feel everytime I see something designed by Christophe Decarnin ! I’m in love with his creations. The best things I’ve ever seen in my life !
i’ve been looking for such a fabulous jacket for weeks. does anybody know, where i can find a sgt.pepper jacket in switzerland?? in addition you have to remember that i’m still a student, so i can’t afford one from balmain..
Ahh, leather pants. They always come ’round again. She looks really good and fresh, not taking the hair too seriously, love the gold watch. It seems these small details add up and the effect is relevant to our time right now, and does not look like The Jackson Family World Tour, 1985, (did they tour in ’85?). She pulls it off brilliantly.
As long as you are skinny and have fabulous pair of shoulders then i suggest go and grab yourself…Balmain…i seriously love he whole ensemble she looks great….
Is this Barbara Martelo ?! God I say the same outfit pictured at the Jak and Jill blog and I love the whole outfit ! THe balmain jacket is maybe not my favourite one from the collection of this kind of jackets but I love the leather pants ! x
I don’t know why…it’s totally illogical (for me anyway)…but I LOVE this jacket. If someone told me I’d be enamored with a washed-out denim, big-shoulder, 80s style Michael Jackson-esque jacket, I’d have thought they were speaking to someone else. Surely.
Maybe it’s her, maybe it’s the black hair against pale blue, maybe it’s those black leather pants, maybe it’s all the textural interest. Whatever, I so love this!
When I first saw her, I thought “oh, she’s in a marching band”. Then, I realized this was her own outfit. It will always say “costume”, and history is not kind to costumes (e.g. 80′s jumpsuits).
i almost always absolutely HATE denim on top – but this is an anomaly. she’s flipped her wardrobe upside down! if only they had balmain in aus (well at least, it’s hidden from me!).
How could anything with that many buttons be bad? I kind of think the buttons need to be on the other side instead of those loopy things *and* I’d like the skirt sort of thing (is it a peplum when it’s this long?) be longer and fuller. It would take the mannishness from the jacket and push it over the edge to full on girly.
I can say, i really love her shoulderpads too. But what i really really love is her smile. She has a great body and can wear these leather leggings. Of course. The uniform jacket? I saw them a lot in the last weeks.
Wow the comments regarding this jacket go to the extreme on both sides. I love a jacket that gets people talking.
I for one love it. I like looking at it. I like the fact that as a band geek I hated wearing one similar to it but Balmain makes me question whether I was to hasty in my opinion.
I know this would not look good on me at all, but I appreciate the fun and fashion it exudes.
Do you need good shoulders to wear this? Are they yours, or the coats? Is that black sweater a bit stiff and sweaty underneath? The look just does not work for me and it does not look comfey on the inside either. On the other hand, leather pants are always an option for those qualified to wear them…
I hate this shoulder line, balmain or not, it looks to me like the hanger indetations. I”m not going to get on board with this trend, ever. I appreciate it for the runway, but not in RL.
Glorious stuff, this. Speaking as a man, her smile just lights up her outfit. If I could have dinner with her, I would at almost any cost. This female radiates personality.
Speaking as citizen of the great and glorious state of California, I don’t get to see such style. Our weather does not allow for such clothed exuberance. Hey, but we have the blue sky and the infinite ocean, either one of which can be individually or collectively exuberant.
For those of us not exposed to such different looks in our everyday lives I find this look wonderful and refreshing. Such a great statement of style-the Beatles should be proud!
Who cares if everyone is wearing this jacket! Only a handful of gorgeous young things could get away with it anyway, and then for just a season since it is so theatrical.
But the photo itself! The smile! The blue blue sky… why, it’s the same color as the jacket!
She is Barbara Martelo! I have seen her several times during this fasshion week ans she is always wearing Balmain Jackets (Balmain, Givenchy, Loewe…)…Anyway it is the first time I see one of those jackets in ‘jean’ clothe!! She is faboulous and nice Barbara!!
I dunno, Michael Jackson/Captain Crunch embellishment applied to acid wash? I’ll admit I like the silhouette, especially the shoulders, it’s new and curvy and kinda pretty. Leather pants on chicks with skinny legs always looks hot. She wears this well in that her hair, make-up and accessories are kept simple. For her yes, for most people, no.
Too much. I am already sick of seeing the copy cutter look of all the buyers wearing Balmain!!! She is beautiful . But please….Lets take advantage of the crisis and think out of the box!!
Hello Gorgeous! Beautiful smile – this lady loves to have fun – definitely not self absorbed – she is a free soul. This denim jacket is so HOT – especially when paired with perfect leather pants and she’s sporting the fat gold rollie. Like I said before Scott, you bring out the Best in your subjects.
Its just too trendy for me; the overwhelming response to this jacket, as in so many people wearing it during fashion weeks, turns me off. With items like this I feel like I will never be able to make them my own.
I’ll have to wait 5 years until they’re a distant memory; then revitalizing it will be cool and unique.
why is it that I can’t find a jacket like that???? I have been dreaming about one of these for months now (literally dreaming and waking up in the morning with a pang at my heart) and haven’t yet been able to find it!
To be honest, I’m sick and tired of seeing Balmain everywhere. I used to hope Christophe Decarnin would update this mood with fall 2009 collection, but he kept on doing the same stuff of the past season… so now I hope editors will change.
It’s a cool jacket but i don’t think it makes femenin to anyone. It’s like 17/18 century clothes, where the breast was almost hidden. Also those shoulders don’t make a nice figure… i think.
There are things I like about this, although the ubiquity of the Balmain shoulderpad is already becoming kind of boring. But why, oh why, did they have to choose that particular wash?? Of all the acid washes from the late 80′s and early 90′s, that was the drabbest. Leave just a little more color in the fabric and it’s so much more interesting to look at!
This jacket is a bit to get use to. The more I see it, the more it grows on me, ( like a Brittany song?? maybe). It’s one of those pieces that we’ll look back at in a few years and say, oh yah, remember that jacket that was around for a few months. If we remember it with love is another question.
I just typed up a post on Balmain’s Sgt. Pepper-ish jackets. You know how certain people (myself included) get disgusted by the ubiquitous it-bags, it-shoes. it-sunglasses…well, this may definitely become, if not already is,the it-jacket. But, you know what…I don’t mind at all this time! I simply love it.
This infamous balmain jacket has gone everywhere. Everybody with any interest in fashion knows about it and how amazingly military it is. I love this jacket. the buttons and the shine appeal to me and the broad shoulders are perfectly…masculine. While the jean material is so light. I love how masculinity is turning up in fashion. Bravo!
is this the same girl in the image with the beautiful leather jacket and colourful dress? i think this balmain look has been a bit overdone already which is such a shame because its a great collection. its already showing up in all chain stores….however this image is beautiful and she does look fantastic!
the strange thing about this ensemble is that i do not actually like the jacket as a piece. but, i DO like it on her. i find this kind of paradoxical thinking to be a pretty common response for me when observing fashion. she works it. and that’s cool.
I love Barbara… Simply amazing from Monday to Sunday… Day by day… A hole life in style! BARBARA como estlista y BARBARA como mujer! Balmain is better in you!

This jacket is the beginning of the end, total fashion mistake! don’t get me wrong, this girl could belt a garbage bag on her waist and still look fabulous, Barbara baby u rock, but this number is borderline embarrassing in its “itness”, so not contemporary. The “New Humility” to quote a recent term in Garance Doré blog, calls for different times. See the problem is that this outfit looks very uncomfortable she looks almost decapitated in the Jackson jacket, her breasts flatten and her upper body stiff. To me this is another “Itness” better worn for Halloween parties.

Ugliest jacket ever. If that makes me unpopular with the fashionistas – so be it.
Big shoulders + pale denim? Are you kidding me? What is Balmain thinking and WHY is this popular?
Like the pants though!

Amazing! She looks great, and I don’t think everyone could in that jacket.

Bravo!

Oh, that’s beautiful. It reminds me of some of ABBA’s stage costumes. And she looks so happy!

the jacket doesn’t suit her, it’s wearing her and not the other way around… it all seems too forced.
like the gold watch with it though

is this the same girl in the image with the beautiful leather jacket and colourful dress? i think this balmain look has been a bit overdone already which is such a shame because its a great collection. its already showing up in all chain stores….however this image is beautiful and she does look fantastic!

the strange thing about this ensemble is that i do not actually like the jacket as a piece. but, i DO like it on her. i find this kind of paradoxical thinking to be a pretty common response for me when observing fashion. she works it. and that’s cool.

the “Sargent Pepper meets Michael Jackson” look is wonderful as there’s a contrast between her BCBG face and her eccentric and sexy clothes.
