WOW. Such a perfect combination, and these pieces are all basics that she can wear for years to come. I particularly like the bag (anyone know by whom?) and the shoes. Also the cut of the jacket- I can imagine it in very soft cashmere. Jorge from WPB
everything about her is chic. first, i love how she layered the cropped tee over regular tee. second, i love the ripped boyfriend jeans. third, i love the overall look. oh my–she's too chic!!
i clearly remember a picture of this woman during fashion week in nyc. she was wearing the same shoes. in my opinion, this is fantastic styling. who is this woman? since this is the second time i've seen her on your blog, i'm sure you will be assembling a 'style profile' of her in the future.
Casually perfect. Is it only an accidental mix of what she happened to have in her suitcase, or an effortless sense of style? How great those oxfords look! If this young, stylishly aware American in London is any indication, we'll be seeing a lot more of them, and maybe more of the luggage brown mixed with denim and black.
i need shoes like that!now!like em better in this brown than in any other color i've seen!also the jeans fit and the different layers…she's already in 2010!
To me this is a great example of a look that looks slightly accidental, thrown together – but I bet a lot of thought went into it. Everything is just perfect!
This is really great, though I'm not digging the holes in the jeans. Everything else is perfection, the blazer, THE BAG, shoes, the way the jeans are rolled up…wonderful.
She looks STUNNING in a totally effortless and natural way. Even without the amazingly beautiful bag, she'd still stand out and yet seems so comfortable.
Lo que más me gusta es la naturalidad con la que lo lleva todo. El resultado es perfecto. Me encanta el contraste entre los jeans rajados, con esos zapatos y ese blazer tan british. Un 10.
rolled up boyfriend jeans – check. brogues – check. sharp shouldered blazer – check. this is sooo boring and unoriginal. the perfect outfit if you want to look like everyone else who is trying to look like they didn't try too hard. no sense of style, just following the herd.
You know, I honestly had to read through the comments to realize we are supposed to admire the outfit and that this wasn't Sart's first venture into cynical fashion criticism, i. e. using "American" as a pejorative: the ripped jeans, cutesy watch, backpack-sized purse, ubiquitous water bottle, self-absorbed texting all say American to me, and not necessarily in a good way.
LOVE this look! Everything is amazing (jeans, blazer, oxfords, bag) but what I especially love is her natural hair…..can't wait until my hair is that length again ! Great Photo!
out of a hundred comments – roughly 30 questioning where the bag comes from.. how come no one's got an answer?! where can i get the BAG for gods sake!!!??
you can get a suitable pair of wingtip oxfords at any thrift store in the world. her sweater doesn't fit. abercrombie and fitch makes god awful jeans…. and the watch is gawdy.
Who really cares!? Shes not interested like 1/2 (if not more)of Americans–always looking at their palms w/ no chance of social interaction. This photo says much about our world today, not about fashion.
I have been looking for shoes like that for the past three years. They sure aren't in New York. At least Bass has women's saddle shoes again this year.
She is beautiful; almost looks like a young Christy Turlington. Her outfit and bag are fabulous, but I agree about holes in jeans: only little kids, and the kids should be the ones who put them there.
I like all this nonchalant layering of her´s. A beautiful woman. The only thing that is bothering me a bit, are the large holes on her jeans. A charming picture.
Okay, two things: one, I think the jeans RUIN the look. Her layers of t-shirts are loose and to add a pair of ripped, big pants do not look good! And two, I think to myself I have seen this look before and then I remember I haven't, but if you take away this bag, she looks like all the men posted in your September 2009 archive!
great layering. all so casually put together, incl the roll-up. she really doesn't need the holes in the jeans tho' – well-worn & faded would have been enough. why is tatty fashionable?!
Broques from the brand 'Church's' look very much like these…cannot really tell whether she's actually wearing this brand. As for the bag, looks like Miu Miu to me…
the shoes are like the moment you bite into a chocolate and realize the center is not what you expected, but is even better. In this case, caramel with sea salt.
Im loving the hatred towards americans and ripped jeans…wow, how sad. If you only KNEW what the majority of americans wear! This girl is mixing wonderful classic elements of a blazer and oxfords with trendy, unique jeans. Fantastic! Nothing "American" about her :)
She looks like this generation's answer to Flash Dance. Abroad. Tailored jackets with worn jeans is a hard look to pull off… Wearer seems to be trying too hard or looks like the cleaners lost the pants.
seamless mash-up of styles! layers, ripped denim, cropped legs, splash of vintage… of course shes on her blackberry as well and could that be a g-shock peeking out??? lovely
The shoes and pants and perfect. The blazer is cute; it adds a nice sharp detail to the whole ensemble, especially with the crisp black bag with the nice detailing. Nearly everything is good. The problem? Those shirts. Dumpy, ill-fitting, one of them too short. Otherwise everything is great.
the jeans and oxfords combination is perfect. it is nice to see that not all women want to wear skin tight jeans. the watch and pose put the whole fit together… I WANT HER TO BE MY GIRLFRIEND!
Sorry, but I don't get it. She's a nice looking girl but there's nothing original or pulled together about her look. A lot of these photos are about great looking people who would look good in anything rather than people who have real style.
Sorry, but I don't get it. She's a good looking girl but there's nothing original or pulled together about her look. Ripped jeans have been around since hippie days, and while I have no objection to them I don't think they're a fashion statement.
While there are very many people here who have real style, there are also many who are just gorgeous and would look good in anything they threw on. So what's the point?
Great laid back outfit, it does have pieces that could be considered trendy or worn to death, but I think the fact that they are trendy and she makes them look like they show her style is what makes them work so well. Great pieces and yeah the bag is by Miu Miu a couple seasons old though I remember seeing it for quite cheap last fall season when everything was like 80 perecent off at saks and neimans.
Beautiful girl, but I guess I just don't like ripped jeans on anyone who is obviously not planning to do some kind of messy job. It makes them look like they're going out of their way to be sloppy.
I am a little obsessed with those shoes, and luckily they have identical ones (perhaps even the actual ones) at Steve Madden (model name Merlin). Hurray!
gorgeous! but i assure those of you who question if this was "accidental" tossing together of what was in her suitcase: a look this perfectly chic was carefully planned out and executed. i would GUARANTEE it!
Paul Smith makes shoes like that for women: I saw a woman working at an Etro store wearing them and she told me (how treacherous!). They rock. This look is utterly delicious! It's ridiculous how easy and comfortable she looks – love it.
I love the subtle layering, the tailoring, the rips and the perfectly shaded dark tan brogues. Great autumn/spring look for many places but with a London undertone. This is another Sartorialist look that I covet for me!
Not a big fan of the holey jeans but love everything else. I have a pair of shoes just like that buried in my closet (they are actually a men's narrow)… but I *WANT* that bag!!!
the shoes are ralph lauren collection wing tips. i just got a pair and they are amazing. versatile too-you can pair them with almost anything you already have in your closet.
Guess I'm the only one who hates the bag. No offense to those who own or covet it, but to my eye it's just… well, badly proportioned and gimmicky-looking. Love the shoes, though–so glad that oxfords may finally overcome ballet slippers as the flat of choice!
The look is PERFECT. This "boyfriend" jeans are fantastic. The shoes give the look a bit of sophistication. And the cut of the jacket is ideal. Perfect!
I have seen this picture all over the web and with good reason. This is a fantastic spring look, very inspiring! Her look is effortless yet very polished. Great picture!
Thanks for another fantastic post. Where else could anyone get that kind of info in such a perfect way of writing? I’ve a presentation next week, and I am on the look for such information.

Now, to the most important question:

Okay, two things: one, I think the jeans RUIN the look. Her layers of t-shirts are loose and to add a pair of ripped, big pants do not look good! And two, I think to myself I have seen this look before and then I remember I haven't, but if you take away this bag, she looks like all the men posted in your September 2009 archive!

Guess I'm the only one who hates the bag. No offense to those who own or covet it, but to my eye it's just… well, badly proportioned and gimmicky-looking. Love the shoes, though–so glad that oxfords may finally overcome ballet slippers as the flat of choice!

This look is so "effortless" that it has crossed the line into completely sloppy.

Just a fantastic look – I wonder if her feet sweat in those shoes though? Eh, to look great isn't necessarily always going to be comfortable! :).

The look is PERFECT. This "boyfriend" jeans are fantastic. The shoes give the look a bit of sophistication. And the cut of the jacket is ideal.
Perfect!

I'm loving the boyfriend jeans with oxfords- are those Church's? The fitted blazer helps keep it from looking too slouchy. Great look!

Perfect and cute. I love the way she rolls her jeans, and the holes on the knees. Perfection! Still after two years it looks amazing.
