The nuance of color in the wall is stunning as a background to his olive, but I would crop out the half-window. It takes away from his lovely silhouette. http:// 1thousanddresses.blogspot.com/
i'm from germany and please tell me, where you find all these people? when i'm walkting in the streets, there are not so great people with these beautiful clothes…
I really just wanted to say that I adore this blog. All the pictures are wonderful, capture the moment, and include people wearing wonderful clothing. Although I'm really young I really enjoy looking at your photographs. They're simply magnificent.
Oh! The sole of the shoes! But the best! How he poses and take the cigarette! So attractive man! And I've never imagined that a blue scarf and an olive suit could combine! SIMPLY COOL
The wall color is so beautiful, such a painterly texture. I love the way you framed this with the dark steps chopping into the lower corner, loads of head room that gives us more of that incredible wall, and then you've allowed just the suggestion of the window. As for the gentleman, he's makes for an astonishing vertical mark that comes in high contrast to the soft background. Almost looks like he was cut and pasted there, but it's clear he wasn't really. Something about him reminds me of an Edward Gorey drawing. He looks like he spends a lot of time in his head. Yeah, I'll be coming back to this one a few more times.
The black form of the window does not detract from the photo, for krystsake………it is integral to the composition or else it WOULD HAVE BEEN CROPPED.
The genius in the photos is that they are taken without cropping and are perfect in their spontaneous collaborative style-culture statement-emo-composition-et cetera et cetera et cetera
I think the man is totally incidental in this picture, although I love the sharp silhouette of him – the skinny hunched-shoulderedness and the ponytail. What is just wonderful here is the painted wall and the steps which also look painted. He looks as though he's standing on a theatre set, and the clarity and sharpness of him against the painterly cloudy atmospheric wall. I also like the blue scarf, the yellow/green suit and the pink/red shoes. Great photo.
I like his suit, especially with the blue scarf (nice match with the blue buttons on his suit!), and the shoes. I think however, that he looks very unhealthy (but maybe that is just me).
I used to live in NYC, but returned to Asia 10 years ago. I was amazed on how Asians are not afraid to show bold and contrasting colors in their wardrobes Case and point of green suit and burgundy/brown shoes. Stylish!
What a sense of coolness. Somehow I find him artistic. Really liked the wall and also the stairs. For me, those were the details that actually made the picture!
forget the clothes in this one. As a photograph, this is stunning. Look at the cloud effect in the stucco and the off-balance perspective the stairs and the man create. wow!
The background seems surreal yet so serene; the smooth pastel colours subjects you to a plain, fresh and neautral world, as well as the marbel looking steps add a sense of priority to the photograpgh; its as if there are latters of smoke smudged across the edges of the wall, in particular, to where the steps meet it. There couldnt have been an anymore beautiful setting along with such an individual being to cast it. X Neda X http://stylemontage-neda.blogspot.com/
the wall, the shoes, the suit and him. it's perfection… i just imagined he planed this and was standing there for ever and waiting for this picture being taken xD
I love the suit, so different. And the injection of color through a the scarf and sole of the shoes is a great example of how to subtly do color in a masculine outfit.
I love the composition of this. Someone above commented on his posture, but I think it makes the picture work. The curve in his stance contrasts with the hard lines of the steps. With his suit, scarf, and pony-tail, he sends a great vibe.
this looks like fashion designer Akira Isogawa but somehow the cigarette makes me think not? love the wall colour and dark stairs with is outfit colours – its perfect capture Sart!! well done, its really beautiful!!
I absolutely, totally love this guy!!! Everything about him is super. I wonder what is his job… Some of your subjects are so interesting that I want to know everything about them!!! What led to having this style?
If someone wants to know this man is Hidetaka Fukaya, one of the great bespoke shoemakers in the world. The sartorialist shoot pics of him in his workshop back in 2006 or something…seach for cobbler and florence….amazing craftsman. Could be the most stylish shoemaker on the planet..
This is my favourite post of yours for the week commencing January 17th, 2011. I love the candidness of this shot. I love his ensemble but how its brightened by the pale glow of wall.
I like that you've started off the week with a man progressing up a series of steps. It reminds me of an old saying ~ "a thousand steps are stepped after the first step has been taken." And on a Monday, visual cues like this help inspire our start to the week!
i love the color story represented here… it's so balanced… the rich brown of the shoes with the peach-beige of the wall, the charcoal of the steps with the loden suit, and the pop of sky blue in the scarf. gorgeous, masculine but delicate.

X Neda X

Dear Scott,
This is my favourite post of yours for the week commencing January 17th, 2011. I love the candidness of this shot. I love his ensemble but how its brightened by the pale glow of wall.
I like that you've started off the week with a man progressing up a series of steps. It reminds me of an old saying ~ "a thousand steps are stepped after the first step has been taken."
And on a Monday, visual cues like this help inspire our start to the week!
Thank you,
Cheryl.

i love the color story represented here… it's so balanced… the rich brown of the shoes with the peach-beige of the wall, the charcoal of the steps with the loden suit, and the pop of sky blue in the scarf. gorgeous, masculine but delicate.
