On the Street…A New Silhouette, Paris

12115ParisB4542web

It kills me I didn’t quite get this shot (I don’t know why my focus is way left) but this look holds so much current fashion inspiration for me.

I love, and will soon try, the turtleneck under shirt and tie.

I love the flared jeans/pants(?) with the dense break over the white sneakers.

I also love the slimness of the coat (especially in the arms) and how its just the right length to show the slim upper-leg just as the jeans begin their dramatic flare.

Just like the photo of Brads hair that I posted on Instagram the other day this look, for me, is a game changer.

No, he looks very elegant and very clean. The white, white shoes make it sporty and upscale, the well cut coat makes it elegant. The flares make it modern. Nothing more boron g then skinny jeans, especially on men.

No. And your opinion is as subjective as all of ours. He looks like a hobo

I do not like this look. The bell bottoms do not make his look modern, but recall the 1970s. In fact, the cut of the man’s jacket also recalls the 1970s. The only things that are missing are wide lapels and wide ties. I think that “man buns” are an abomination and if his hair is long enough for a bun, he might as well just let the hair flow down his shoulders and back or else gather it in a pony tail. Again those recall the 1970s and are not modern. At least this look can be put together in on a flea market budget.

I for one like it. I also loved that you posted a photo that was perfect but YOU still liked it. Sometimes we just have to take care of our own needs first!

I agree, it’s more of everything/anything he could find to wear. The so created style is by accident.

No offense Scott, but I actually quite like the shot ! :-D

It’s as if you made a “collage”, by cutting a face and a pair of white shoes from a magazine, and then glued them on a hand-coloured photograph.

    “Payant”, indeed !

      December 23, 2015 at 6:04 pm

it is a collage, great observation. i think the photo would have benefitted from cropping out the sharp detailed background.
i see this as fantastic design and style. very raf simons. now!
unfortunately i struggle with man buns…just seem to be drowning in them in LA

I think it’s good the pic got this way, it makes it special. I like the layering and look of different shapes and textures. It it a nice picture and I think the person manages to stand out through clothes in an interesting way. His figure is good;it goes to show that a slim , “wasp” waist can help any outfit. it is just becoming on anyone, no matter male or female

At 63 years old I’ve seen this look come and go. For me, the huge break in pants always look sloppy. I’ll stick with slim and neatly tailored. I’ve learned that when you find your look it’s best to stay with it. As Yves Saint Laurent said,”Fashion comes and goes. Style is forever.”

Agreed! Can’t think of anything more constricting around the neck! And the pants are sloppy as Donnie says.

Agreed. Turtleneck under a shirt sounds torturous. And please! Men and women no more buns!!!
Scott, the grainy shot tho is great!

How can putting your hair up be any kind of problem. People have been putting their hair up in buns from at least the Middle Ages. Not really sure why people have a problem with it, because its beautiful, but also its done because it is comfortable, and long hair fighting with a turtleneck or shirt collar is messy. Sorry foilk, but hair put up out of the way is not a bad thing, and never in history will it stop. As for the flared pants, i can only parry that they return, but especially if men were somehow stopped from wearing their pants down low and saggy, that would already be a good thing.

You have a great eye…it’s a nice style from head to toe. It’s better that you captured it blurry…safety comes first, while crossing oncoming traffic. Always make it a ‘habit’ to avoid being added to the Darwin Awards. Take care of yourself out there… =) xo

I never liked pants worn this way because the pants get ruined; dirty, threadbare and draggy is never a good look.

I kind of like it fuzzy. It makes his face look like a mask in the most dramatic way…and the lack of details puts the focus on the shapes and proportions. Hate to contradict you on your own work, but like it.

    The turtleneck under the shirt…
This how I had to go to school back in the 80s. :) It was freezing cold in classes, but we were only allowed to wear the school uniform. So to add layers I wore a turtleneck under the school shirt. Wasn’t very comfortable, though. :)

Actually I sometimes love blurry photos. It leaves more to the imagination!

    Hi Scott,
Do you really intend to emulate this guy wearing a rollneck under a shirt? You’re kidding! Aren’t you?
In my opinion, this style comes from somewhere else. Sure, many folks in Paris have lost, say, a Parisian sense of style in recent years, though this one is still unthinkable within their repertoire.

I don’t see how it could be. Flared pants look at least as good on everyone as cropped skinny ones. They make legs look longer, and the hipster nerd show your socks thing, is nice, but too overdone. In my opinion the look he sports would look good on just about everyone, male and female.

Another shot where this is a style that only he can rock, BUT, others can take away some pieces. I love his top knot hair do and the slim coat is elegance. More than anything, I am so happy to see people in Paris just hanging out again. Great courage and wonderful joie de vivre! http://www.pippihephurn.etsy.com

I think this is appeared in Lanvin’s show. I’ve already try, the point is you have to buy a size up of the shirt. then you can have a turtle neck in it.
also, the coat should have a larger “V” area.

Love the photo……..night lights in Paris.
    Hate the clothes……boo hoo combos.

This is a miss-mash of combinations that, where never all put together at once in any ‘retr0-otic’ era/period;-)

This has been a style cherished by Lucas Ossendrijver, the designer of Lanvin Homme for several seasons now (the FW15 show had plenty): definitely forward-looking by blending vintage and modern.
All men might not be ready for it but I love it when worn with a nonchalent confidence!

Sorry, flares and oxford bags looked truly awful on blokes first time round in the 70′s – as a former Northern Soulie, I know that whereof I speak, and have the photos to prove it!

Sincerely hope that we don’t see them “in” again.
