it’s supposed to be freezing in NYC, yet all these men are wearing their trousers way up. Don’t get them wet.

really nice shoes!!!! I like very much his style, simple but sofisticated, not being too vain. good for you!

This is a great casual look with nice proportions. I think the silhouette would be slightly better without the cargo pockets, and a pair of socks could actually add something to this look, but he looks good.

Pants too short, too many flappity pockets– but, it’s his body so the hell with it. Sashay on, trend setter!

now here’s exactly when the short pants look works: unstudied, casual, nice mix. bravo all around.

His boots remind me of a pair that I found in Florence. I wore them into the ground. I really miss those boots. The pants are interesting, but not for me. However the fabric is very appealing.

I’ve not been a huge fan of pants with cargo-esque pockets, for a while. But, I really like the color of the pants. They almost look two-toned, like silk – that could just be the result of the afternoon sun and a contrasty photo. Great cardigan, too. The desert boots have a sort of funny shape to them – his feet look long – but it’s not bad, it’s just interesting.

He is perfection in my book. Hipsters, scenesters, hypebeasts have nothing on this man– a true individual in the spirit of The Sartorialist in an ocean of pretenders.

BTW, for all those pointing out how cold the weather is in NYC for such attire: I don’t think these pics were taken exactly on Nov. 24 ;-)

I like the cardi quite a bit. Lovely color and interesting pattern. It fits him well.
It looks like his feet are huge. Maybe it is the short, narrow pants that make his feet appear so big.

    November 24, 2008 at 12:21 pm

but tell me what is wrong with socks nowadays? shall we never wear socks ever again?

    November 24, 2008 at 12:23 pm

This is one of the fresher looks you’ve posted in a while. I need some boots like that.

Good casual look. Simple style works great on men.

Not really for the younger guys but very nice anyway

    November 24, 2008 at 1:14 pm

Great outfit. The shoes are a few sizes too large- few sizes. Look at where his little toe makes an indentation on the suede!!! This young man found a great pair of boots at a good price and bought them. I have been known to do that :). I also like the frames and how they complement the shape of his face. Perfect shoes to match this look and if he was my man, I’s steal his cardigan….

His casual day look has some sophisticated touches to it, like pairing the sweater w/the semi-cargo pants.

I love the sweater, watch, and sunglasses.
The pants are poorly proportioned, and the shoes look like they’re off a clown. I don’t like the shine of both the shirt and the pants. Too shiny!

This guy’s bare ankles packaged as they are look so much more interesting than the suited guy from the other day. Like the whole combo.

    Monsieur Sartorialist
you are an endless wealth of inspiration.
    any words of wisdom?

  47. Cris

    November 24, 2008 at 3:33 pm

really nice look but isn’t he too short to wear it? he looks a bit as if big foot had come to NYC with those shoes!

  48. Andrew

    November 24, 2008 at 3:35 pm

the shoes make his feet look huge in proportion to everything else (especially when combined with the pant length)

overall the look is nice, if a little scattered.

Well – Downunderboy has been up in China for a week and just look at what I have missed out on!!!
My God – there has been a fashion whirlwind while I have been out of action. I am placing this collective comment here due to the fact that there is just SO much I have missed.
Scott – all the images of the past week are gorgeous.

he is bea-ti-ful! i like the slimmer fit and the colors are so soothing. but the length? well it’s good that he has enough confidence to walk around like that in NYC.

Phillip Lim from head to toe.

I find it bafflingly that some are saying, “Hipsters, scenesters, hypebeasts have nothing on this man– a true individual”. Really?
In my opinion, this look came straight out of a magazine or store catalog.

I could not love those boots more.

  60. Dan in Richmond

    November 24, 2008 at 7:48 pm

Responses to various posts without citing them specifically: His feet don’t look huge to me nor does he look too short for the outfit. I see nothing androgynous about this at all and why would it not be for young guys- is it for older guys? The glasses do compliment his face- that’s part of the overall proportions, which I think work. I think one could look confident wearing just about anything in NYC and I’m tired of comments about the weather- he looks comfortable enough! Thank you.

Sart, have you looked in Grand Central Terminal – around commuting time in the evening or morning – for NYC locals – ?

  64. Sartorial Rage

    November 24, 2008 at 10:18 pm

Adore the high pants with pockets. The the non-traditional grey sweater is what seals the deal.

  65. Poulenc

    November 24, 2008 at 10:18 pm

Am I the only person who feels that “short” is over? I mean, done.

In the early summer, I happened to find myself face-to-face with T. Brown. We were both trying to get a cab on Central Park West.

His mufti: semi-demi Little Lord Fontleroy. Suddenly I saw how very, very iffy his look was for anyone out of their twenties. And even for the young, one had to be very, very careful, especially if tall.

So I say, bye-bye, short. You been a good ol’ wagon (sorta) but you done broke down.

You are a funny man Sart. You saw all the hoo haa of negative comments yesterday from the short length pants guy, so you wanted to show those people a similar short length pant that looks more “conventional”, so that they can all be swayed, the way that they indeed have been. You’re a genius. And this guy does look quite wonderful. The shorter length pant does belong on Main Street after all.

Maybe it’s just me but the overall
look is totally disconnected. Waist down he appears casual and sock free in designer surplus. But above the waist is a whole other direction with a buttoned up satin shirt and a tight engineered chest cable cardigan. With sleeves pushed bracelet length and celebrity frames.

In my opinion, this look came straight out of a magazine or store catalog.

You got me– I had no idea he was dressed from head-to-toe in Phillip Lim. Not being a fan of said designer, my first impression of the individual was his look was part vintage, part army surplus mixed with some elements of luxury and formality.

I still think he looks great.

Oh, he’s fab! He’s the store manager at 3.1 Phillip Lim and really a lovely person: I’m not surprised he looks so dapper!
