the shoes, especially the way he's wearing them (i believe they're slightly/loosely untied), are fantastic. could those be super-light-blue socks and t-shirt, or do they look that way bc of the lighting?

It's the background of this shot looming over and immersing the figure that gets me. A thoughtful choice for 9/11.

No photo has ever felt more New York. I adore this. If he was facing us something would be lost. Maybe it's the constant waiting on corners for the cars to stop coming, or for a cab to pull over that is such a part of ny life. How often you see someone's back to you at a street corner. I love it. And the flag peeking over his shoulder feels so right on this 9/11 anniversary.

if only we could see the front…i mean, if the back is that fantastic, imagine what the outfit as a whole looks like!

i always liked hoodies so i was like ok ok.. then, i scrolled down and BAM! there were the shoes. now, i can give him complete props. he's also a talllll one, great silhouette.

I never thought it was a good idea to match such similar colors when pairing pants and a cotton shirt, but he pulls it off well. The hoodie on the inside of the shirt, rather than how most people wear it on the outside, is a nice touch.

so amazing and surprising! As I was scrolling down, I was expecting sneakers or something to that effect, but when I saw his shoes I laughed out loud! They were so unexpected, but gives a cool edge to the whole look. Rocker grunge meets your grandfather's closet :) In the nicest way possible of course!

hmmmm. not so fond of the top half. i just don't like hoodies on adults as street wear (but i do like that he's actually USING the hood). but i love the slim pants, light blue sock, smart shoes.

The contrast between this shot featuring the monochromatic tones, the hoodie, the gentle creases, and the gentlemanly footwear is rightfully contrasted with that of the preceding photo of the gent with the braces, the hat and the checked shirt with the striped tie. Both looks speak to me, and yet one is minimalistic and the other idiosyncratic. Well done, mates.

Your book just arrived from Amazon – I love it – thank you.
My favorite photos in the book as well as on your blog are the ones of ordinary people. While fashion industry insiders dress beautifully and often interestingly, it isn't as exciting for me to see what they are wearing. I crave photos of the people, male or female, young or old, who manage to cobble together a visually interesting outfit out of what they can afford and what they can find in the stores available to them, or perhaps in the back of their closet, or a friend's closet. Sometimes, just a pair of red socks can cheer me up and make me ready to face the day ahead of me.
Thank you for your passion in sharing your photos.

Are you kidding me with this shot? How do you do it? There are so many things about this shot I love. This is art. Beautiful. And touching, subtle and meaningful, especially today.

I like the way the blue at his hip–a t-shirt?–repeats the blue socks. BluISH socks, actually. I think that they're actually white.

Does anyone else feel as scared as I do, seeing him from behind ? With the hood up and the tattoos, this picture reminds me of the many newspaper pictures I´ve seen of youngish men taken to the court house, men accused of having done some terrible sort of crime; therefore not wanting to show their face. This, or then I just have a hell of an imagination.

nicely framed between the two identical complexes and at the intersection of the crosswalk. this is definitely a pleasing shot of the interaction of city and man.

Wonderful silhouette, the etymology of this look is interesting. Very contemporary, very c&w, very urban, very socal, very hip.

Not sure…it looks good….but not very focused. For example, the outfit is very…post-apocalyptic…while at the same time being very tailored and dandy…hmmm….still not sure. Probably makes much more sense in person. If the hood weren't there it'd be much more concise!

Gray-on-gray never looked so appealing. Like a uniform, and soft yet sleek!

But I don't think the cuffing of his pants is actually necessary here.
