I like the contrast of textures and colors here…the blue jean jacket with equally worn jeans. The camel coat. The two-tone T-strap Mary Janes. What a classy date outfit. I’d wear this in an aorta beat!
Right. Because fashion is all about being comfortable. If expressing your inner state of mind (or making a statement) trough your clothes and the way you dress (I think) others don’t have the right to judge you.
Huh. Who would’ve thought that matchy-matchy denim could look so cool and chic? Not me. But it totally does. And I think it’s the perfectly tailored classic camel coat thrown effortlessly over the top that elevates the whole look. Surprisingly beautiful styling.
Her choice of clothes shouldn’t “work” at all — kinda slapdash and safe and all-over-the-place in detail — but how stylish and “now” she looks! Beautiful, spot-on photograph too, which isn’t always the case here. Finally, the shot captures NYC’s holiday spirit … the curbside Xmas trees, the lighting at night, the improv, casual elegance of the city’s denizens. Really quickened my day to see this post!
For the first time…in a long time…I can’t find a single element that I dislike.
The layering works really well, the pieces on their own are interesting and well chosen – and even that hint of movement as she touches her hair adds a great detail to the photo.

Love the outfit – and yes, agree with earlier comment that her outfit has that Ralph Lauren relaxed western chic to it, in spite of the Margiela coat!
But, what I really want to comment on is the lighting – what a fantastic night (?) shot! I can’t imagine you used a flash. Are you using a new lens Scott (and tripod?) Really love the vivid colours, and overall composition!
you had me until we got to the feet. WTF with grown women minimizing themselves by standing, toes pointed inward as if they are five or six year old children. be beautiful in all of your weight, hair, wrinkles, adult shoes and posture. c’mon now.
Could not agree more on the pose. She looks beautiful, but the hordes of adult models on clothing websites and photo spreads standing coyly pigeon toed is not attractive. It’s akin to sucking your thumb.
Horrible fitting old denim. Horrible. Stop trying to sell us on light wash denim – its not working! Wearing the opposite of what’s in doesn’t make you stylish, it makes you look like your trying to wear the opposite of whats in. Enuf!
Who’s jeans are those?
Looks like they have been made to look inside-out but I could be wrong???
Looks like the denim jacket has the same effect.
Very cute with a glimpse of the ‘right’ side of denim peeping on the turn up.
Oh to be in NYC for Christmas!
Good to be in NZ though…:)
The French should have a term meaning “beautiful onion” which also relates to the ecstasy of peeling it back, layer by layer, discovering wonders that can overcome the senses. Now excuse me, I have to go turn down the thermostat.
