This is very true, for example in the 80′s it was a thing usually for young footie match going Mancs and Scousers as well eventually becoming normal knobhead apparel like no-mark in the picture here.

? He looks very classic to me, not all like skinhead. He coild be from the 50ies or from the 90ies or from 2012. He’s not a skinhead. I got 3 Fred Perry shirts, Doc Marten shoes and Levi’s jeans, and tattoos, and Ben Sherman Hoodie and a lot of other stuff the skins used, they are just old classic clothes, that will hang in here forever! I am a woman in her 40ies, and I not a skin head, never been, never will be!

Those Tattoos added a lot of look to this style… I’ve always loved full buttoned look and amazingly this T fits him like a glove and a very nicely taken picture. Black and White has so much of depth… Loved it…

The Fred Perry polo shirt is such a stale choice. The large tattoos make it slightly less bland. But it still looks like a boring ad for a men’s fragrance. Eau de Guy Ritchie.
The best thing about this shot is his face as he looks directly at us.

This is an incredibly attractive photo to me. I love this blend of classic preppy handsome AND tattooed man…usually bothers me if somebody leaves off a belt…but in the black and white photo it works for the best.

Mod, you’re right…that’s why I referenced the sans-a-belt slacks…60′s.
Now, if he sports the right hat and shades, then it’s the 80′s British ska…The Specials, which someone mentioned.
Someone else also harkened back to the 20′s, and I also must agree because he reminds me of a character out of Evelyn Waugh. Wow! How one picture evokes three distinct decades.

The Mod reference was close but I think his is more of a rude boy style from the late 60´s early 70´s. This type of look was adopted by British kids and was connected to the Jamaican music scene.

Sharp, slick, all but perfect. And with the soft lines of his hair cut. This boy looks intelligent and reserved while knowing excactly what he’s offering. The context of N.Y. makes this photo stand out even more. Looks very present and real in a very constructed and quoting make. Very sexual and male, possibly dangerous. He can turn heads in the street and still not look ridiculous. Very few men can. Jean Genet might have loved this boy. With all the references to British 60s he does not look nostalgic. The weight of his presence seems to rest in the future, a portrait of time to come. Congrats. Very nice picture.

I thought about the young men of Miracle of the Rose, the killer & the lover in one caracter, the young man that can become or do anything, with all the human potentials for transformation. The photo amazes me more every time I look at it. Must be among my favourite shots by this photographer.

Both, Sevan – of course :) I’m reading Genets Miracle of the Rose right now, and thought about Genet’s young man, killer & lover, all the potentials of human transformation in one character. And the icons of The Sailor, The Convict etc. with the tatoos. The photo amazes me more every time I look at it. Must be one of my favourite shots by this photographer. He’s very good with representations of time, I think. Genet writes very well about clothes btw. I’d be curious to read your thoughts about Cocteau. In a sense this mans looks fit better with a Cocteau character, while the picture – for me touches – the world of Genet; his love, maybe.

Le Miracle de la Rose is probably Genet’s masterpiece but I have a soft spot for Jean Cocteau for he was a multi talented artist and his entire work tinged with poesie.
This photo reminds me of the young budding artists who were revolving in Cocteau’s realm. Jean Marais, Raymond Radiguet ?

I like Jean Genet’s litterature but Jean Cocteau is the epitome of the multi talented artist. Anything he worked on was pure poesie, one exemple being La Belle et la Bete. He also helped young budding artists like Radiguet et J. Marais. This photo makes me think of them.

I’m accustomed to believing a man should never wear his shirt tucked in if he isn’t wearing a belt. However, with the outfit’s clean lines and perfect tailored fit, I’ll go back on my statement and say, in this case, a belt is unnecessary. The lack of it further contributes to the contrast between the cluttered tattoos and the crisp, tidy outfit.

I’ve always loved the idea of anything out of the norm. Classic, twisted a bit in a way that makes it interesting. What could have been a really boring preppy look is made interesting by this guy’s tattoo’s. Goes to show you, you don’t need to wear a ann demeulemeester or look rough to look edgy. You just need skin or a skin for it. Just sayin…

Before I scrolled down and saw his tattoos, I actually believed that it was a vintage photo from the 1930′s. It was the combination of the hair, the polo, and the fact that the picture is black and white. The tattoos are probably the last thing I would have expected if just given a head shot of this guy. What an interesting contrast.

Nathaniel Matthews may be the best dressed young man I’ve seen. Surely British elements of style, but as much American & French, in the photos at his blog. The weakness of the styles he builds on is their rigid, historic, nostalgic and conservative framework; a context of past, and frequently lost battles. His combinations are open, present and movable; freely quoting, and clearly choosing. Simple and disiplined beauty. Young men tend to overdo, he doesn’t. This minimalism is very difficult because it closes on death of style, you easily kill it with too litle and too much alike. He looks like what a.p.c. must have dreamed of. Photographer & designer, his own work is also strongly appealing to me. I couldn’t guess if he wants to be famuos – maybe not – but if so, he deserves it.

Beautiful outfit, beautiful ink, and a beautiful guy. He looks so angelic with the cupid bow lips and fair complexion. The outfit isn’t just preppy. Its 1950′s/1960′s preppy. Look at the sleek fit. None of that sloppy, too loose fit. The pants are the best though, because they don’t slide down to his hips. And the ink just gives the whole thing a sexy edge.

I’m sorry and I seem to be in the minority, but I just really dislike this picture. The shirt buttoned up to the top, the just-so-perfect hairstyle, the set of his lips. It just looks a little creepy to me. Sorry. Good looking guy though and I love the tats.

Isn’t that’s what makes this photo so intriguing, Tova? I cannot decide if this is a nice person or one I would not want to meet, if he’s coming or going, rich or poor. He looks like a man you would like to know, maybe up close and then again maybe at a distance. It’s somehow cut out of time and place, still very present, with an undefined future. After this particular moment anything could happen and I can’t imangine what that would be. Maybe nothing. It’s almost a protrait of hope, with some fear in it. The historic references are obvious in this style, yet history has no say in what will follow. This is a mark of the photo, maybe of this young man and maybe not. Makes the picture eerie.
