On the Slopes……Woolrich Field Coat, Stowe, Vermont

I’m spending Christmas snowboarding in Stowe, Vermont!

Although I’m in Fash-Off mode this gentleman’s look was so cool I had to shoot it with my iPhone.  Apparently it’s a70 year old Woolrich “Field Coat”.

They have a version of this coat on the Woolrich website, I don’t how close it is to his original but it looks very, very sincere in its respect to tradition.

ps  The color didn’t come out great in this photo but the knit cap is navy and the pants a perfect military green.

Now if it would only snow more in New York City!

It most likely is an authentic design – the Pendleton 49er jacket is the exact as the the 49er released in 1949 – Grandma wore them for gardening, always had them on hook in mudroom.

You should come down to Burlington, VT to shoot. Small city, pretty stellar style.

Burlington VT would be a great place to shoot next time you’re in VT. Between college kids, rural VTers, a booming young adult population, and of course the “hippies” (as my conservative father called them growing up) it would be a gem in terms of great & interesting street style!

  38. rusalka

    December 27, 2012 at 3:24 pm

The 70 year Woolrich probably weighed a ton. Providing a sense of warmth from that alone. Whatevah, you obviously need some plaid!

Pendleton and opening ceremony made a slim fitted version of the Pendleton classic with a zip front. I don`t know if they still make it. I bought one two years ago and love it a lot. Mine fits perfect so I can`t wear any knitwear under it but it should even look great wearing it one size bigger.

Filson plaid wool or striped wool vests? Have NEVER worn their stuff (too pricey for the likes of me) but it’s traditional manly hunterwear… and if you prefer layering & suits (& it’s not that cold) a vest might be up your alley?… mens/vests-liners/-1011/

the best part about this is that this is REAL vermont style, not a fashion statement. this is functional in our cold winters! i’m from stowe and wouldn’t think twice about a woolrich coat and bean boots, but it’s nice to take a moment and appreciate how awesome it looks.

hope you are enjoying my hometown!

You know you should really make a Project out of this… Like go on over to Scotland and pick yourself out some rad plaid and then go to HK and hire a tailor. That way you could have any style you wanted made, and pick out some super cool buttons, specify some secret pockets inside, and stuff like that. Have a matching coat made for your dog.

Those Woolrich field coats are the best. The wool is the finest. The older they are, the better. I have three of them. They are as stylish as they were brand new. You look good in that outfit. I couldn’t have put it together any better.

Duck boots !!!!! I am french, and I discovered LLBean Duck boots a few months ago, with the website Tomboy style. I bought a pair, and I’m wearing them in Lyon, where I live. In Lyon, Duck boots look weird, no one have them. I grew up in Provence, so when I wear my duck boots I feel like I’m in Canada, I love it ! The traditional aesthetic, the functional form… these boots attract me.
