I wish I could understand why she must wear sunglasses indoors at fashion shows. I’m sure there is a time when she doesn’t, however it is something I am beyond over on anyone at every end of the status meeter.
HOW DOES SHE SEE WHAT’S REALLY HAPPENING THROUGH THOSE DARK GLASSES OR HAS SHE SEEN EVERYTHING AT A PREVIEW AND JUST PUTTING IN AN APPEARANCE FOR SHOW.
JUST A QUESTION.
BEING IN DESIGN I CAN’T IMAGINE LOOKING AT FABRICS OR ANYTHING WITH MY SUNGLASSES ON TO MAKE AN OPINION LET A LONE A DECISION.
Haha, I was thinking the same as the first/original poster. Her looks are almost interchangeable, as in you could cut and paste her from a previous front row shot, she sure does stay true to her ‘look’.
She looks so fabulous for 62 (OK, 61 and 10 months). Even though she is thinner, richer and clearly has more access to high fashion than most women, she dresses like normal women would if they could. She is a perfect example of how women can exude executive ability while being fashionable. I am so much more interested in seeing what she’s wearing rather than what’s on the pages of Vogue.
It’s funny how someone who works in fashion, a world that is defined by constant change, always looks exactly the same. You could have taken this picture 10 years ago. Not saying this is a bad thing, but I find it somewhat ironic.
In Madrid we are looking forward to our week of fashion and arrives tomorrow! I am excited and eager to see the proposals for the next spring summer.
We do not have to Anna Wintour, but if tubiera vip guest would choose another name Anna Dello Russo but funny and with a boundless imagination use, that’s one of the roles of fashion: The staging.
I hope you follow us from NY!
I read where she said she has her distance prescription lenses in those Chanel sunglasses. I have a pair of presciption lens Armani sunnies i wear for distance. I also have a sensativity to light and can actually see much better detail with my script sunnies than with my script clear lenses. My eye doctor told me this was not uncommon when one reaches a ‘certain’ age.
The above may or may not be true for Ms. Wintour. Either way, those front row sunnies have become one of her signatures.
Also, I think she dresses appropriately, stylishly and, of course, beautifully for a woman her age. Most of us greatly admire the same qualities in Jackie’s sister, Princess Lee, who has also worn her same hairstyle and age appropriate simple and elegant attire for as long as I can remember. But she did not go into a corporate mans world and build new territory, so there is nothing contoversial about her.
While Anna’s personality does not come across as warm and fuzzy, i do admire her powerful skill at building an empire, and weilding great influence. Those of us women who are in professioanl careers and 60ish and over , did much to break down barriers so that women could actually have the same career opportunities as men. It was not an easy road for any woman with ambition back then. “Mad Men” pretty accurately captures what our professional career opportunities were just a generation or 2 ago….secretary, nurse, teacher, and a few others. Yes, noble professions, but very few professional choices beyond those. Most of the women (not all) that rose to the top from this generation had to develop a toughness to deal with the big boys to be able to stay on top. I think it is important for women who came along behind us to remember that people like Anna helped pave the way for them and the professional opportunities they can avail themselves of today.
I think years ago she was congratulated for her style, so she decided not to risk anymore and that’s why she dresses exactly the same every single/boring day of her life. But that’s a woman I really hope to ever get in a discussion with… I think her only stare would kill me of
I’m with Kara, it IS all about Hamish Bowles in this particular photo. Ms. Wintour, I do admire your style – particularly this signature full skirt and long-sleeved crew-neck combination – but please remove your sunglasses.
Ms. Wintour seems to radiate existential unhappiness. I find that very sad.
Mr. Bowles, on the other hand, most definitely does not. I LOVE his look–the olive-green denims are perfect with the jacket and tie, and the mash-up of stripes works surprisingly well!
with all respect for Anna Wintour, whose personality and work are highly charming and interesting….but her style is so well represented by any Italian woman with a sense of style living a full life, and not only in high-profile careers!
I mean my high school teachers had her same style!! at times, with less prominent jewelry, but this was still an option open to the more daring ones.
I think when it comes to Anna Wintour it’s consistency that contributes to her aura…
And to the person who asked why Anna Wintour must wear sunglasses indoors: part of her power is that she is inscrutable and she keeps people guessing about her opinions on a show. Legendary costumer designer Edith Head did the same thing.
I am looking at Anna and I have the same thought as always :) “Why is she a fashion icon?”. She always look in the same way and what is more, look at her clothes! We wore this kind of shoes in early 90′! Maybe she has taste about other people, but for sure not for herself! I see your comments, she is deffinetely cool for one and boring for others. I am in this second group! Greetings!
I ‘m sorry but I do not think this lady is a true icon of fashion and always manages to find the right fashion. I know of a seamstresses working life and have a sense of beauty and unsurpassed elegance …I agree with Aga
Love Ms Wintour. But I remember Hamish in the mid 1980s, in a plaid suit with a Cavalier King Charles spaniel tucked under his arm. I was straight from art school and new to fashion PR – and it was Hamish who impressed me, more than any of the fashion editors or models.
This woman is supposed to be the absolute master of fashion…I don’t think that this is a product of her personal taste but the outcome of a great marketing fasion team…My opinion is that Carine has far better taste and style, she is more stylish with her beautiful smile and her rock attitude than with big ugly glasses indoors which,by the way, is extremely rude.
I’m impressed, I must say. Actually not often do I encounter a weblog that’s each educative and entertaining, and let me tell you, you will have hit the nail on the head. Your idea is excellent; the difficulty is one thing that not sufficient persons are talking intelligently about. I am very joyful that I stumbled throughout this in my seek for something relating to this.
