It seems no matter what research I do on Morocco, colors are always central to their culture. First thing I saw here is the striped bag and then the blue in the bike. Dusty and worn, but talk about a signature—colors. Africa and the profusion of color across the Continent. No one does it better-especially Morocco. Stately gentleman. Love the white beard against his dark skin– and riding a bicycle. Beautiful.
I love the gold tint in the bike handles. They’re a pleasantly surprising hint of luxury, and they match the golden color of the sand, leaves, and clothes. And the blue in his bike matches his colorful tote.
Had some fantastic times in Morocco, working in denim wash houses in Casablanca, exploring the souks in Marrakesh and battling the gusty winds in Essaouira. So inspiring and thanks for some great photos.
I find those pictures from Morocco somehow trivial and prejudiced. And especially in the contrast to the Paris, NY and so on pictures. Looks like a typical developing-country bias, like there are no “hip and fashionable” people there at all.
After your images of two poised and dignified men in maroon and off-white striped chilabas (Nov 28 and Dec 2), now comes this gentleman in a fantastic camel one! And with palms in the background, too! Thanks for your moroccan series, Scott.
I’m loving the photographs of Maroc you have been sharing of late – you have captured the light so well, I am inspired to go travelling, it’s one of my favourite places! xx
I’m in disagreement. When Scott shoots people on the streets of fashion city x, it looks great, everyone loves it. Yet when this same style is taken to another country I suddenly view the pictures as ordinary. They become the same photos I’ve seen a thousand of my friends take. Unoriginal and uninspiring. It’s a strange dichotomy, photos of people we would normally pass-by with a glance but not a click of a shutter are interesting and eye-catching but photos of the obviously interesting (because we are staring at morocco through the lens of the “other”) I find boring because I am expecting the photo. To make the exotic interesting is much more difficult because it is no longer unexpected.
I have not been in Morocco since 1975- with my first French husband who was born in Casablanca.
I love that with all the time there are still the same people.
