What are a few things you learned this year?
Â
That classic, well-made woven shirts work with EVERYTHING! I incorporated a classic white oxford into all of my looks, it was the best thing I’ve ever done.
Â
I’m known for fusing tailored clothing with vintage pieces to keep things sharp but relaxed, I like pieces that have a story. But working with great tailors has inspired me to go more tailored next year; custom suits, shirts, and footwear with a respectful splash. I’m building a suit closet, a suit for every occasion! Â IÂ want to master the balance: show up to a ball game in a suit looking completely appropriate. Â
Â
Also, I want to plan things out more than I had before. I’m really impulsive, so my goal is to approach new experiences with a plan in mind.

Thank you: Suit to a ball game, bring it all back. I am so very weary of this oh-so-casual world. I remember my father used to mow the lawn in a shirt and tie. It was a hand mower, of course, and he didn’t break a sweat (which would have not been gentlemanly:—)
Lovely white shirt.

A truly stylin’ gentleman. I, too, love the straw hat and I don’t even like beards, but he makes it look good. The pleated pants look great on guys who are in shape. I think he is wearing a bow tie for a splash of color, I can’t tell if it is a bow tie or scarf. In French the word for “bow tie” translates into “butterfly knot” so delightful.
Happy New Year all you style mavins!

I applaud your conviction to dress in bespoke, however difficult and expensive. I would rather have two such suits rather than 100s of non-custom made. Also, nothing like woven white shirts. I wear them constantly-even in the hotest of climates-they feel fresh for ever. regarding the suit at the ball game: My Father-and most of his generation-would not go anywhere un-suited or jacket-less, including Yankee Stadium in Summer. Revive sear-sucker!
I would like to see you provide more on men’s shoes (esp. British) and suggestions for tropical suits / ensembles ( S.Florida-Palm beach-Miami resident) Thanks

This is just phenomenal; In Chicago, you’ll see some older men dressed similar to this; minus the flamboyant flares of colour though, which is really what makes this outfit so aesthetically pleasing.
The detail on the suspenders, though – that’s what I love most. Very interesting, but not the first thing my eye goes to.

Looking at pictures of old ballparks on the internet, one marvels at the crowds of well-dressed people.
I admire his sartorial ethic, commitment, and bow to nostalgia.
Will
December 30, 2011 at 9:21 pm
This photograph is interesting because it’s usual in the Sartorialist for people to appear assured, content — at least composed. This gentleman is clearly struggling against the heat but the picture still works because it illustrates the story the man tells us about his thinking in assembling a wardrobe. Very nicely done.

A great photo and an excellent plan for 2012! A man should be tailored as best as possible for any occassion. Shirts, suits, blazers and jackets, it all good because the well tailored man is always a man of action.

a wardrobe to all occasions..erm..interesting..i just wander lately cos i am thinking of the same thing but how a gentlemam casually slips into his wardrobe for a modern party like a rock or pop things..remember this should be smooth and varied as opposed to his daily wear instead of jumping into a kid’s fast easy going wear..it’s cool for kids cos it comes natural with attitudes but however a gentleman is gonna fit into all this or a 20s windsor gemtleman survives in a world of house music and grunge..think about that.we cannot deny where we live on any level eventually and a gentleman should be more sharp and smart to occasions..any occasions.
