New “Reply” Function on the Site

You may have noticed a new feature on the blog, small but impactful.

There’s a new button on the comments called “reply.”

You will now be able to carry on a more concise conversation with other readers, replying directly underneath the comment you are referencing, creating a more fluid discussion and an even richer experience on the site.

Keep sharing your insight. Your contribution adds a layer of interaction that’s vital to the spirit of the blog.

I agree: a great addition. I hope everyone can express their ideas AND treat this option with a degree of respect.

i had this conversation with myself one day
“i wish the site would have a reply function”
“ya… but things could get ugly really fast – maybe it’s better just the way it is… there are lots of people here who have strong feelings about fashion and not afraid to show it”

haha and now here it is! exciting stuff!

And now we can reply directly and drive off the folks who post irrelevant comments simply to advertise their websites!

Scott, I appreciate your ability to see feedback from viewers as somewhat separate from you and its own entity. It helps give me a fresh perspective to hear you write about how discourse and comments are an important part of the blog. You seem to be able to not get mired in other people’s thoughts about your work, but instead see it as a conversation you begin and then they take it from there.
Not sure if I’m describing your actual feelings on this, just what it seems to me, and I like it!

It is an interesting feature, but wait and see: personal animosity will probably rise. Whereas before, everyone just commented on the photo and style.

This blog had been quite free of nastiness.Perhaps you edit carefully and I am grateful. I cannot bear YouTube comments, for example. So often nasty, uncouth, and vulgar.

I love this new feature! It’s lots of fun. I’ve already abused it several times.

You are quite right, M. Even YouTube is in the process of requiring real names from users leaving comments. The days of internet anonymity are coming to an end, and that might be a good thing. Thankfully, the editing on this blog is impeccable. Good humor and constructive criticism get a pass, whereas good old nastiness never does. I can attest to that! :)

Youtube always requires names from users. It hasn’t made the place in any way less antagonistic. However, this really isn’t much like Youtube, and hopefully it will stay on the calmer side. Fashion isn’t the most turbulent of subjects after all, is it?

The reply feature is a great new development! Now, and perhaps I’ve missed it, is there a way to register/login so that I don’t have type in my username and info each time I want to post a comment? As one does with most online newspapers? Thank you!

I have not missed a day of enjoying your and Garance’s sites. They are an inspiration and a window on a world I can only dream about. Thankyou both. I love your sense of humour…your kindness, talent and humilty…and and xx Gabi

That is great news! Earlier, it was virtually impossible to reach for example commenter number 17, when your own comment was like number 128.

One of the things I like most about this blog is that people have real discussions here and real things to say. Most blog comments run along the lines of “nice post!”. This is an excellent addition, especially on this site.

“robe” and “godasse” are feminine nouns. Also, it’s “frange” not “fringe”. I won’t say anything about the grammar.

Whats beautiful to some may not be to others. we all see things differently when we look at art and photography, I think that’s the point.
