Great photograph, fits the title perfectly!

Much like the shirt dress we have seen in the past few weeks, I don’t neccesarily like this one. : )
ALTHOUGH it is an imporvement since the last shirtdress because at least she is just at the beach, using it as a coverup.
She looks relaxed, cool, and someone you would want to hang around.
    Amazing picture!

I miss summer already :( It’s freezing in England! Our ‘summer’ ended ages ago :(

Hope her styrofoam cup doesn’t end up as beach trash but ends up in the landfill for the next several hundred years, out of sight. Would have been a much better look IMO with a reusable cup.

    Simplement magnifique. Pâleur, brise, calme.

I like the melancholy of this picture and the winterish light. She’s probably wishing for a new summer and this one has not ended yet :). She somehow reminds me of Fearne Cotton.

I love the carefree feeling of this shot…I live mere blocks away from Lake Michigan, I have yet to visit and dip my toes in the sands as this woman has. I rather go to the pool. Btw, that chambray (?) shirt would be easy to stitch. With so much ease, it could fit a variety of figure types.

Now, that looks perfect. I love the idea of an oversized guys shirt as a cover up.

hi scott :) i love your + garance’s photography, you’re both my daily inspiration and fuel.

i adore this photo, how she looks like she’s saying good-bye to the beach, coffee in hand, very Breakfast-in-Tiffany but on the beach hihi :)

beautiful comfortable dress shirt too. i have a similar one from banana republic but its not as long.

thank you both for sharing your Montauk photos every summer. you’ve made me want to go there and I wouldn’t have heard of it had it not been for your blogs!

have a great end of summer xo,

this color is great! sky and cloud, her skin, blue shirts, water…
    my favorite color :)

  19. MostlyAPragmatist

    September 2, 2011 at 10:13 am

I can hear a voice (maybe my voice) asking “She’s just wearing a blue oxford shirt–so what?”

Well, her bare legs, sandy hair, and straw basket, match the sand. Her wrists and white cup match the clouds and sea foam. And her shirt is accented by the hint of blue in the sky.

This picture shows how environment-dependent good fashion is.

So funny! I just pulled a shirt like this one out of my husband’s closet and wore it over my bathing suit to swim in Walden Pond. The swim was nice, but I would rather be in Montauk!

Remember, summer doesn’t “officially” end until the first day of fall, September 23. Let’s continue to savor those last days!

  28. Lauren

Beautiful shot. I love the way she’s looking out to sea as if saying goodbye to summer.

Love the denim shirt dress, its similar to the one posed a while ago in Italy. I like the idea what she’s saying goodbye to summer as well. A perfect way to capture the end of a beautiful summer.

the whole athmosphere of the shot is just great! even if the outfit is so simple and casual
sometimes the outfit makes the picture, somertimes the way you shoot makes the whole look.
    you have feeling of both.

this is not a guys shirt at all, it is a product of a men’s shirt, but since there are only 4 buttons, and the only guy that would wear this is Homer Simpson, we can conclude that it is a short and sweet summer dress. and i love the foamy waves.

  39. tagatha

    September 2, 2011 at 1:00 pm

    @Lauren, pretty sure that’s a paper cup….

Yes, prefer this kind of shirt dress on the beach too. Been thinking about what it is about them since that last blue one which for me was almost wonderful. I think it’s the insecure feeling that a wind could blow them up and reveal…nothing! There’s probably not “nothing” underneath in either case, but that’s the feeling that I think makes me hesitate. But, yes, on a beach it’s easier.

As much as I love the look of a good tan –sadly a leftover habit of the 70s/80s, I also love seeing a person as they are, knowing they have cared for themselves against the sun’s harm. This girl look so simple yet so beautiful. The light in the photo is gorgeous too.
We are just gearing up for summer here down under so this photo is very enticing. Nothing beats that feeling of the surf’s end foam at your ankles.

I love how she matches with her surroundings and the way she holds her bag and cup…it’s subtly chic and it’s wonderful.

I am surprised out of a hundred comments, no one noticed the Sarah Jessica/Carrie Bradshaw vibe going on here. :)

The light in this picture is so perfect! I am from Florida and when I look at this photo, I feel like I am standing on a cloudy beach in January in Miami. A wonderful thing. Thank you.

There’s something about wearing blue at the beach that just nails it. Blue towel, or blue coverup, or blue bathing suit, it looks right.
