Spring is the absolute best time of year. The new, lighter fabrics. The colours. The mirage of more sunlight!
The shirtdresses are sexy, but can really be done in wrong with carelessness. Good footwear and wrist swag is important! http://lordashbury.com
I agree! The first one is way too pajama-like and big and either needs to be a different size (like the 4th photo) or have a belt (like #2 & #3) to bring it under control. Other than that they are great!
Exactly. Good thing that the pictures here show great silhouettes! I love it WITHOUT the belts. The belted ones are OK. But I think that the ones left to move with the body, and show the legs but not the waits are so much more chic.
LOVELY! I love the first and last one!!!
True. There is so much leg shown, that you don’t need to add to it, to make it more feminine or sexy. It should look careless and relaxed. The first one is extremely sexy. It’s really a statement.
exactly my thoughts, it is everything you want in a fun flirty spring outfit: effortlessly sexy and comfortable all at once…Like it much and especially without the belts.
Good to have four examples so we can extrapolate principles — such as “It should look deliberate” (leopard heels) and not like you forgot your pants. (other three.)”
Whenever I try to wear a shirtdress or oversized sweaterdress, everyone ALWAYS asks me if I forgot my pants or if I’m wearing shorts under. Doesn’t matter how deliberate it looks or what kind of belt or not. The price of living in small-town hippieville, I guess.
Spring, come quickly !!! It is hard to imagine wearing a shirtdress those days, but it is a nice idea! I love when it is a large man shirt like the fisrt and last photo.
Love the shirtdress. The girl in the first pic with the stripped dress is super stylish. They all are… I have a silk one by Isabel Marant and I am inspired to wear it tomorrow :)
Girl with the up-swept hair, army green shirt dress, and lizard shoes has it going on. Sexy, fresh, and powerful!!! How can one go wrong with her look? Impossible!!!
Ah, I live in shirt dresses, can’t get enough of them! The khaki dress above is my fave, best silhouette, colour, and they way she knotted the belt is just fab!
Gosh, am I the only one? This is so not ok in my book, unless you are literally at a beach. I’m sorry, it just looks like they forgot half their clothes! And I swear I’m not usually conservative or prudish in any way, but this is actually kind of nuts to me!
I remember seeing the photo of a lady in a pink shirtdress for the first time on your blog. It reminded me of one of the episodes of SATC in which Carrie wore Big’s shirt after their unplanned swimming session in the pond. So sexy.
WOW, love this look! They all look great! My dad has a shirt just like the one on the top left! I’m going to ask him if I could borrow it and wear it this spring/summer! I could already think of the blog post! Great idea, thanks Mr. Schuman!
Always reminds me of Carrie on her way home from Mr. Big, when she fell into the water and got a shirt & a belt from him but is still wearing her Manolos…
Ciao Sart,
what a beautiful and carefree post you do it!
if tomorrow I wear a mini shirtdress with heels (tacco 12) for the city of Rome and i take a walk for its beautiful streets ,as via condotti , some men would suspect what’s my job!!!. Love the first pic and style.

Shirt dresses are sexy because they are a tad revealing and have that undressed feel but they are wonderfully understated and fresh for Spring. http://whichmewillibetoday.wordpress.com/
I’m happy that the three women wearing just shirts (not shirtdresses) are happy but I’ve seen a lot of it in my warm-climate city and over-disclosure is very easy and not what I want catching my eye!
i don’t think there’s a single person in new york who doesn’t have spring on the brain right now. that second shirtdress is beautiful. love the color and the cut outs.
The lady in the navy blue shirt (bottom right) wears it best, in my opinion. And she looks like she just raided her significant other’s closet for that shirt.
Do visit: http://www.genteelflair.com
I only like the third outfit, because it actually looks like a dress. The first one is beautiful but, for me, it looks like she forgot to wear a bottom piece. The pink one… how can she sit without showing too much? http://www.webelieveinstyle.net
Personally, Spring fashion is up there with Autumn.
It can vary so much depending on the perspective you have either on the weather or time.
As for these looks, I think it’s very sexy… Maybe a little too sexy… Or is there no such a thing?
The brown look is very flattering if you’re worried about not being able to show if your figure. But there’s something so cool about just the fact that you’re waiting a big shirt. Kind of intimate!
The bottom two are perfect, I like how one paired it with heels and the other sandals, and I think both looks great. Not sure about the top right though. I think to carry this off well you really must find the perfect length for the dress shirt. Too short and its a complete disaster!
I know exactly what you mean, jessilee ;) too provocative for small towns, but I still love it.. especially #2 and 3 stroke me and look really sexy and good for spring ( which is not yet here in Germany)
OOh I love the first picture! So breezy and cool for a summer day! Well, I wish that arrives soon here in Brussels so I get to wear one like that! But when!? sigh.
Absolutely love those shirtdresses. I have wear them for every summer, and they are suiting with both high heels and ballerinas! I will wear it also this summer, only it should come quicker!
Shirtdresses are a comfy option, but for me they always seem very incomplete, like the pink one in the pic. It seems all over the place, and for people like me who love clean cuts and structure, it’s plain bad! However, navy blue girl with her gorgeous hair looks nice and chirpy!!
The lady in the bottom left corner pulls this look off best to me. With what is essentially supposed to be a casual style, it’s important that you don’t look like you’re trying too hard. Plus the belt is key and the proportions of the shirt are such that she doesn’t lose her shape. Not an easy look to pull off but she does a wonderful job of it.

Shirt dresses, whether worn loose or belted are definitely one of the sexiest styles around..
