Bottom left is amazing. The mix of the feminine delicate blouse with the badass boots and accessories is perfect. The hairstyle mixed with the lipstick mirrors that combo too. So stunning.
I personally wear my sheer blouses like this (boyishly) all this year and I really love the reactions from the ppl. Most of them were shocked (no bra, but I’m pretty skinny) but many of them loved it!
Great pics, great perception!
What makes this classy as opposed to anyone else? When I’ve heard people make the arbitrary distinction between a classy woman and a smutty woman in regards to sheer shirts, they’re usually referencing whether you can see a bra, or (sadly) whether they themselves are attracted to the girl, which is so unfair a distinction that it would be slander to suspect it of a stranger.
But as far as the bra thing, the third picture has a very present black bra, and the fourth is very revealing.
I’m not one to make that distinction, which is why I’m curious; what makes these girls classy as opposed to someone with no class at all?
so chic and stylish, Je adore the black bra under the nude blouse, great idea to dress during the day and not having this option only for evenings!! chapeau!!
We really appreciate your feedback. Although I’m not sure everyone shares the same opinion as you, it is good to get different viewpoints. I can assure you, the “If You’re Thinking About…” post is a collective effort among the team. It isn’t just “an assistant” finding like patterns.
The one thing we’ve noticed is that for people still trying to understand the basics of their personal style, this has been absolutely helpful for them to piece together and form their own ideas about different trends and patterns can fit into their life.
Please keep the feedback coming. It isn’t falling on deaf ears!
I don´t like “if you are thinking…” as well. I mean, if you put por example 2 photos and you compare something particular like those photos about “giraffe pattern”(Giovanna and another girl) , at that time was about how the girls were matching their heights and their size-pattern in a successful way, Ok, It works, but putting photos about an only subject doesn´t work for me. I had seen the photos before. Many people put here only positive comments, but in these case, for example, I don´t like sheer clothes and It could be interesting post some negative aspects., not only “I love it” What do you think?
Thank you for your feedback. I think part of the issue about creating content is that the audience views it within different contextual atmospheres. For instance, you may want to use the post as an educational tool while someone else wants to use it as an information recap of pictures they may have forgotten over time. I will try to offer you the behind the scenes view from our side.
The idea of “If You’re Thinking About…” is a mixture of all types of things: presenting a theme/trend/suggestion; showcasing style in a way for the reader to find ways to adapt to their own taste and wardrobe; and a way to create a platform for discussion.
I think the latter is what we had in mind more so than anything. If you’re thinking about leopard prints, then here are 6 photographs of different leopard prints in various colors, scales, and so on. Here are 6 photographs with different body types or different styling, and so on. How do you wear it? Do you like the theme? And so on….any of the styles can be interpreted as negative or positive, but that’s up to you to decide. We don’t want to “point fingers,” we just want to present an idea for discussion. That’s what street style photography is – artful observation of style and personality.
I personally like this feature. I remember seeing the photo of the blue blouse on the top right and loved it at the time. It is nice to see it again, juxtaposed with similar styles. Keep up the good work.
Big fan of the sartorialist including ‘if your thinking about…’ and ‘vintage photos’. You guys obviously have a great & cohesive team…you inspire and bring details alive. The fact that some fall in love with the same photos that others snub means you are artists, because no work of art ever pleased everyone. Thanks for sharing what you do.
These photos are fantastics, beatiful girls, but for me, sheer is a bit vulgar, coarse, it wants to be erotic… but ….most of them are tasteless… It should be smart… but they don´t get it.
Do you know what I mean?

Wow, i absolutely love the last picture on the right. That woman is beautiful and has an entire outfit going with the jacket and all. The blouse is perfect. Exceptionally perfect on her.

Very pretty inspiration for the holidays. If and when the temperature drops I’m hoping you’ll do a collective like this for some of the best scarves captured on your blog. I found myself combing your archives last year looking for some of my favorites and fresh ways to tie them.
Realizing that the reason I always looked 12 years old, even when dressed up, was because I had never tried sheer blouses was a BREAKTHROUGH! So I loved this post ;) Blouses are fantastic in any wardrobe and dang it make you feel like a woman !
Though I feel like this post came a little too late given it is sweater weather now in the States, I absolutely LOVE sheer tops. I have several that I wear in warmer weather with a black floral anthropologie bra underneath. I personally love how light and feminine it makes me feel, and if men can get away with walking around topless in the summer months, I think it is unfair to call women looking for a similar relief from hot temperatures vulgar, regardless of how they choose to wear their sheer tops. I will admit, though, that it is a look I got away with in NYC much more easily than in small-ish town Virginia, but I deal with the comments and the stares with grace.
No one’s mentioned this yet but the second one is wearing a “granny bra”… And pulling it off very sexily! Wow, props to her. The last one is probably my favourite, since it’s so ballsy and the way her torso is…”sculpted” (or something) under her blouse is so epic. And the pockets are at just the right place and it’s a lot bigger than it needs to be, which makes it very androgynous. Which is a paradox; an androgynous look whose main component is a sheer blouse (with no bra). I really like these types of defying looks and combinations!
Love the Navy. In Australia we have such hot and sticky summers And I’ve long wanted some sheer things for my wardrobe but for some reason they just don’t turn up.
Strategic pockets are useful (if You’re skinny)
such a trend, sheer blouses. as shown in this pictures they can be style in all sorts of different ways. Going throw diferent blogs i have notice that most of them don`t have the authors revewis besides the posts. Is really important to have the autors pics on this kind of blogs, NOT TRYING TO BE THE BIG ONE HERE but say what you think!
The lastone is by far the best one. she is clearly rocking the classic edgy style in a wonderful way. Is just the right amount of skin and even though she is clearly no wearing a bra the way it`s style just the correct way (talking to the point.) simple makeup and accessories take out the best out of this outfit. By the other hand the firts picture is horrible, she is clearly wearing the every-day-not-special look! This look has been seen so many times that is disgusting to see it again! The girl beside her is more fashionable. But i have to give her credit because that is a cute shit.

I don’t think the ‘If you’re thinking about…’ thang is working.
Personally, I am here to see what Scott does, not an assistant who can mash up pictures that have a very obvious connection.
As well, I think the multiple-up format does nothing for the images in terms of highlighting the talent of the photographer.
No T No Shade, but sheer…? American Apparel was ‘discussing’ sheer last summer.
All my love.

It’s too bad that many people make it look trashy. It can be such an elegant look like your photographs show. Love them all.

Realizing that the reason I always looked 12 years old, even when dressed up, was because I had never tried sheer blouses was a BREAKTHROUGH! So I loved this post ;) Blouses are fantastic in any wardrobe and dang it make you feel like a woman !

They are stylish and take a specific fashionista to wear them. Kudos to those ladies that do an pull it off!

How do you keep the last one from slipping? I like the idea, but would twist or turn and the pocket would suddenly no longer be in the right spot.

Love this sheer look, Kate Moss has been rocking it a while, as she has a small chest she wears the blouse sans blouse.
She’s Kate Moss – she can do what she wants!
