Definitely, thinking herringbone tweed coats and jackets. The perfect purchase when sales start. I have my eye on a red Marni jacket with a mink collar!
Ha, just yesterday I tried one on and thought, chic, chic. But with chic coats there is always one problem, you can t wear thick knit under it and so you have to freeze … so hello down feather parka.
The winter coat really is the only piece of clothing that looks good when made from tweed, in my opinion. It’s just too stiff and heavy for blazers / sport coats.
Living in Florida, these photos make me miss city life and being able to wear a great coat in winter.
I like all four and the way people styled them, especially the man sans socks.
In my quest to fill the shoes of a seasoned stylish gentleman I recently landed one of these beauties.
You have great taste in people with great taste, Sartorialist!
Best!
The total look in the pic on the upper left is my favorite. Judging from the street marker in the background, what else would you expect from Paris? But, still, I have to know about the striped shoes in the picture on the upper right!
My favourite shot is the upper right, the tweed coat is nice, her shoes are great with the cropped pants, and the shot of wine colour in her bag…great look!
I adore everything about the 1st picture, but the all looks are great. Personally I prefer the look of the girl in the 2nd picture above the look of girl in the 3rd (I think the fit of the coat and the boots make it a bit too “fashion” for my taste, the other look is more charming and nonchalant.)
Hee, I get SUCH a kick out of it when something I’ve been wearing for years (in this case, my 1960s vintage Pendleton wool coat, brown herringbone tweed, which comes out every winter) shows up in a Sartorialist on-trend feature.
I bought a coat like the one in the right corner for my husband in 1969. It was my first important present for him. I loved this style then, I love it now.
Love the coat with the big collar. But I have to notice, we were looking at plaids last week, now we have herringbone tweed. Is this part of a general trend toward classic looks? I’m for it!
LOVE….. I’m having a serious flashback to the 80′s clothing store Flip in NYC and pulling big old herringbone coats out of the $5 bin when I was in HS.

Such a classic look for both men and women – something about herringbone always gives off an academic vibe.
