Sometimes it really sucks to live in northern Sweden. So far away from everything fun!
This event seems completely adorable, with all the fantastic clothes and music. And the dancing! I wish you still went to the dancefloor on saturdaynights to meet your friends and flirt with the boys…
I love the color of the chiffondress and her handsome companion on the first picture, and the posing, navydressed girl on the next picture is just absolutely…adorable!
Looking at these pics makes me fervently wish I lived somewhere remotely close to civilization. I can’t even wear a sports jacket without getting the odd snicker and confused second glance. At anyrate, everyone looks very snazzy.
Yes, desertwind. I am the one in the c. 1930 peach dress… purchased somewhere well outside of the city with this event in mind. All told, I used the occasion to justify three dress purchases… naughty, naughty. Bandleader Michael Arenella (see a lovely picture of him earlier in the week) did an amazing job with this event, and it’s turning into a lovely annual (and free) Governors Island soiree. Heidi

That top photo must be Heidi who left comment on the 3rd Picnic post! (she identified her husband’s boots in one of the shots).
Lovely. Heidi, can you tell us more about your dress?

It all reminds me of one of my favorite PG Wodehouse stories: Jeeves and the Old School Chum.
Plot too complicated to synopsize here, but it involves a country race track with no pub for miles and a picnic basket. And the Pyke.

Did you pump up the green in that first shot, or does the Island just have the greenest grass I’ve ever laid eyes on?

The success of period clothing always relies on how well the wearer carries him/herself and these people have failed the clothing.
