im losing my mind. does any one remember a photo of a man with tattoos and shorts on. comment was something about the great contrast of clean shorts with tattoos? anyone. anyone. please. i have scoured the whole site to no avail. its one of those things that starts out like “oh yeah i remember that” , and now is a full blown absession with finding it.
your photography is stellar as always!!! But I find this so very very boring. I don’t view this as fashion. This is a ‘dress up’ event. Sorry Sart but you’re going off on a tangent here, I don’t think this belongs on your site.
i agree with the yawn comment. this is nothing new.. the swing craze ended ten years ago now but you can still find these guys out at swing nights every week night.. these posts are dated and don’t feel relevant.
For Carlos I try to shoot things that i find inspiring not necessarily the “newest” or “most fashionable”
I keep coming back to the phrase of “abstract inspiration” – don’t look at the clothes so literally but more for abstract inspiration. Look at the color combo of pants and jacket that Michael ,the band leader, is wearing on the lead photo – when was the last time you saw a guy wearing that? I was totally inspired by the color combo.
If someone’s courageous and carefully wrought sense of style is boring to you, perhaps you should spend more time in the mezzanine of The Gap, rather than on a website devoted to originality and self – expression.
Perhaps its hard for one lacking creativity and historical context to appreciate anything classically masculine.
What a nice surprise, this was fascinating. I was just looking at a couple magazine pictures I saved of Anna Piaggi and Karl Lagerfeld in the seventies, when they carried themselves with exaggerated frippery and frou frou in a sort of Felliniesque Twenties vein. Did you read ‘A Beautiful Fall’?
It’s funny how the old is… sometimes still old but seeing this after many long weeks of scrutinizing the latest Nina Ricci and tons of not yet in stock Versace, Dior, Fendi and more, this was a surprise treat and really gave a smile. It’s market week and I’m not the only one drowning in the minutae of pre-fall flash / pre-fall / fall deliveries and spring capsule and summer orders.
While looking at the photos I couldn’t help but try to determine which brand would claim which silhouette, color or detail – don’t you think that any day MJ is going to do a wonky Armaniesque non-tribute tribute collection? Wouldn’t that be a scream?
Eg, the pattern for the suit fabric is known as “Prince of Wales”. I have a bespoke suit made from fine italian wool (my first suit) which looks similar. I late read that this pattern was designed by King Edward VII when he was Prince of Wales. All the Scottish clans had their own check patterns, so King Edward came up with the Price of Wales to have a signature check.
