Celine vs Louis Vuitton – Ladies & Gentleman

Celine and Louis Vuitton were the two most exciting shows this past season.

Most of the reactions I heard were that Celine was what a woman wanted to be. Louis Vuitton was the woman a man wanted to be with.

So I ask you.

Women – Would you rather be the Celine woman or the Louis Vuitton woman?
Men – Which woman would you rather be with, the Celine woman or the Louis Vuitton woman?

I'd rather be the Louis Vuitton woman. The Celine woman looks entirely too harsh.

Though I like the sophisticated and sexy look of celine. As a women I actually could see myself wearing Louis clothes more often. They are sweet, classy, yet still sexy.

Male here – I indeed like the LV look. That being said i tend to be a pretty traditional guy. That's not to say i wouldn't like my girlfriend to dress with the celine look every once and a while but she does tend to dress with this LV style.

No hesitation at all: I am a Celine woman. I cannot imagine myself wearing any of the Vuitton items, except maybe for a fancy dress party…

Why do we have to choose? Id like to think I am both a Celine & Louis Vuitton woman…Celine is my day/office style and LV represents my weekend style!

Most definitely a Louis Vuitton woman. The clothing seems a lot softer, and a lot more like a person I would want to come home to after a long day, while still remaining elegant and sexy.

I would definitely love to be the Celine woman. I'm all about the strong statement pieces and the general feisty, daring look that I feel Celine has this season. As much as I love to feel girly and feminine, LV just isn't doing it for me this collection.'

I love the femininity of Louis Vuitton. Although the strength in shapes of Celine is empowering, the feminine details at LV are a component of the woman I would like to be.

As a women my vote is cristall clear for Celine, or better for Stella McCartney, because in my point of view Stella McCartney is much stronger in this kind of style than Celine. As stated earlier in reference to the LV show, the mad men early 60s reference is too strong there (plus all the "what women did and specifically did not or better where allowed to do and did not"); and the shilouette to rigidly translated througout the entire collection.

  29. Fanya

    March 16, 2010 at 12:27 pm

Mixture of both. If I have to pick, I will pick LV.

My impression from browsing through the slides on style.com is that, Celine's is darker, more tailored/structured. I like LV because it's more feminine. Altho I do like the clean cut coats and other possibly office appropriate wears.

My biggest turn off is shiny leather. Leather already conveys a sort of message, the extra shine just…well…not my thing.

    March 16, 2010 at 12:28 pm

I like both, but I am in love with the femininity of the Louis Vuitton collection. I love dressing up in skirts and romantic pretty things, especially when they're flattering. The Celine outfits look much less comfortable and I feel like I would be self-conscious if I wore them myself, even though they look great on the models.

As a modern woman thinking about her wardrobe, the nostalgic Vuitton show is a surprising breath of fresh air ! So pretty and wearable ! I am really tired of all the "bondage shoes" and short, short skirts.

I'd rather go for Celine. A perfect brand as far as I've known.

  38. lintmag

    March 16, 2010 at 12:34 pm

In the photos you show, the Celine looks a little sharp and the Louis looks balanced and feminine, but in the full line up on style.com the Celine has more good looks to wear and the Louis has an awful lot that make even the models look fat and dumpy! Usually I love Vuitton but I would have to see either of these collections in person to make a call.

Though not normally a LV fan, this particular collection had coworkers approaching me and remarking how much it reminded them of my style. So even though I hate to have to choose (to agree with Kimmy Scotti above; why must we?), in this case I'm an entirely Louis Vuitton woman.

not wanting to seem pretentious, but i think i've been wearing the celine style for 2 or 3 years: leather skirts, white shirts and cardigans.
but giving it a tougher edge, why not try the LV look one in a while: full skirt with motorcycle boots, etc..

I am Celine….but I wish I had the confidence to pull of the Vuitton. That's a lot of sex appeal to carry around.

celine – mainly because it has a great synthesis of being individual pieces but also a cohesive collection. i'm afraid the LV has a too strong sense of pastiche about it.

  76. A.

    March 16, 2010 at 1:00 pm

I'm a woman and I say Celine through and through. I think the Louis Vuitton show was beautiful, but cemented my decision for me was that LV's silhouettes and styling look back and Celine's look forward.

It's funny you bring this up because recently I've been having the same issue with my own style. Do I prefer masculine, and somewhat futuristic labels like Helmut Lang, or do I embrace my softer side? There is no question men want the Vuitton.

  78. Amanda

Vuitton by day… Celine by night?

  79. Davidikus

    March 16, 2010 at 1:02 pm

(In general) I don't really like to generalise on men & women. These collections reflect, to some extent, two different understandings of feminity. Céline's woman is all-conquering, some may say 'manly'; Louis Vuitton is self-effacing, some may say 'girly'. The designers have played on clichés, really. I am not sure this makes their collection more interesting.

From videos, it seems to me that the highlights of the Paris Fashion shows were Lanvin & Balenciaga, but that is only my VHO.

On a side note, I wish one day, men's fashion will be taken as seriously as women's fashion!

count me as a Celine woman (with the Vuitton jacket). Strong and successful doesn't have to mean sleek and angry…the Celine pieces are just a bit too harsh.

  83. Katie

    March 16, 2010 at 1:06 pm

I LOVED! the LV show! When I watched the video on style.com I called my boyfriend over to watch it again and he loved it too. I thought every single piece was beautiful and how I would love to dress every single day!

  84. IIDA

    March 16, 2010 at 1:06 pm

I'm a Celine woman, definitely, but with a bit of LV thrown in. (I like the gloves and skirts, but in monochromatic tones.)

  85. Boya

    March 16, 2010 at 1:06 pm

As Lennart said, strong+confident=sexy. Additionally the Celine woman is more blunt while the LV woman has a soft demeanor that only hides a vicious and less elegant woman; I would rather be with a confident open woman than a seemingly elegant woman.

  86. Alice Olive

    March 16, 2010 at 1:06 pm

Celine, without a doubt. Such an elegant, minimal aethestic.

  87. Dana

I'm petite and the full skirts would be overwhelming on me. While I love the retro look, I personally look better in something that doesn't wear me, but rather I wear it. I could rock the slimmer Celine, but not the LV. And who cares about which of these works for the guys? You gotta dress for yourself.

This is so interesting to me. I'm curious why we feel, as women, that if we're drawn more to the Louis Vuitton pieces, that it's for the men? When I look at these, I see the beautiful shape of women, the curves that we have that we should celebrate and accentuate, and not for a man, but for ourselves because that is who we are. The structural aspect of the Celine clothes make them masculine and hard. I feel like the shape and the softness of the LV celebrate us as women, not make us the housewives of the 50's. You can own the curves of your body for yourself, not for a man, and still be a powerful and independent woman.

I like both designers take on the woman and what she could represent. I think its important for a woman to have both. I feel that both have different uses. LV if you're feeling romantic and C for those days when you want to put your war paint on and close that deal.

I am definitely a Celine Woman. I like the razors edge of the look. I would have to be in a particularly romantic mood to wear the Louie Vitton, though both looks are beautiful.

  117. Fueling Unicorns

    March 16, 2010 at 1:24 pm

I agreed that both of these were best. I would wear Celine during the week and the LV on the weekend. Both are very beautiful.
I would think that men would find both of these looks quite appealing but hope that women dress more for themselves and it's a bonus if men also find it attractive.
Oddly I get attention form men sometimes when I am wearing clothing I would think they would find odd. It may be that I look comfortable with myslef and that is the appeal ?

I'm a Celine woman. I like the definiteness of the look, less things to worry about when I wear it. I put it on and feel like I own the world. Not that I've ever worn Celine, just in my imagination.

The shape and cut of most of the LV collection is basically good for one body type. The Celine collection is for the modern woman and many different body types.
LV is like a fantasy collection and is not realistic or relevant for the woman of today.

Without a doubt…Celine. You know there's a difference when there is a woman at the helm of design rather than a man… it really shows! It's about time that we had more of an influence in the fashion world.

What a question! I think the answer you heard follows psychology: Everyone wants to be cool, while nobody wants to hang around with a full-time ice block.

So, sorry Celine-only-women and LV-only-women, I'd like to be with a woman who can pull off both looks, each at its time.

Besides, thanks, dear author, for asking, because I find it nice to have a real discussion in the comments.

Altough the LV show was a wonderful presentation, it was also more likely in a wonder(or never?)land of romanticism, 60's chick and male fantasies, including pieces wich would be parts of outfits in the next season, but surely mixed with a range of urban, casual stuff. On the other hand Celine is truly READY-TO-WEAR, without doubt it's perfectly capable of the wardrobe of a contemporary, powerful women.

I can confess that I'm both. I'm inspired of so much, that I actually can't choose and change from one day to another.
And I doesn't see this question if I wear it to myself or for my man. It's a question of personality and how I feel from one day to another.

And I may be wrong, but I didn't knew that men wanted the LV-figure. Celine (accept for the first picture) is tight, shows more legs and is more sexy.

perhaps the question could be "what would you feel most comfortable in? And what would you like to be able to feel comfortable in?"
Celine looks great but perhaps you need to be built like a model to carry it off. Those LV skirts look like they could help conceal a much fuller hip…

  152. YYZ

    March 16, 2010 at 1:43 pm

I'd like to be the Celine woman, but those clothes are not wearable unless one is built like the models. Luckily, I am quite happy to be the Vuitton woman and those clothes are much more wearable for those of us who are not 6 feet tall, weighing 98 lbs.– even short, curvy girls will look good in those clothes! Yay!

The LV woman is keen, but being seen with Celine would be by far the dream. She's a woman that's harder to attract, harder to keep and harder to figure out. (And alluring to no end.) Isn't that what life's all about?

I'm sorry gentlemen, but Louis looks like what's left of the late 50s and early 1960s. I have no interest in romanticizing that male-dominated, Leave-it-to-Beaver time. When I imagine what I want to look like on the street and at work it is entirely Celine. As a working woman, I don't want to look like your mother circa 1962 or someone's arts and crafts project.

Greetings from Europe and from An Absolutely Celine Woman :)
And if I had a girlfriend (you never know, right?), I'd prefer her to have a Celine-tending look as well.
I suppose most of guys would choose LV. Of course, that feminine, that sweet. I do like this LV collection, I really really like it. I'm gonna buy those stunning heels… But I simply cannot imagine myself being that kind of lady (walkin down the streeeet)

Well, Mr. Schuman, Your Majesty, thanks a lot for such an interesting inquiry, you gotta do more VS entries in future :)

As a woman, I do see myself in the Celine collection – only because I think I want to be more masculine, albiet in a feminine way. For some reason, independence and strength are culturally masculine terms and Celine's collection exudes confidence in feminine masculinity and strength. On the other hand, if I'm trying to attract a man to protect me, I will take on the frilly, playful, yet submissive cuts of Vuitton. I'm still at the Celine point in my life.

A lady here! Celine is not my favorite collection but I would never ever, not for a million dollar wear those LV skirts. Yes the collection is feminine and I love the details but the length of the skirts are not flattering or sexy. It makes you look shorter. If you put those clothes on a regular women I want to see how she looks like. Take the clothes out of those gorgeous models and try the on, unless you have one of those bodies I don't think you're gonna look good at all. It's too old fashion for me. I don't like it at all. Way tooooo old fashion. I can't imagine myself going anywhere with those clothes.

Louis Vuitton for sure. I love this romantic look, this entire image that doesn't scream 'sex! sex!' immediately. If you take a closer look at the Louis Vuitton woman, you see that she has more sexappeal herself than the stylish but more fabricated Celine woman.

    Hmm .. That's a tough one.
I tend to go for both looks. There are always certain episodes where you have to dress accordingly, and I think I'm maybe a Celine girl when I'm out and about, and a Louis Vuitton when I'm at a family dinner for example. But I don't know – both looks lacks something to be totally me.

It's sad that the feminist movement has pushed so many women away from being women, especially when feminists really intended to celebrate being feminine. Or maybe it's just a manifestation of the lack of style of the general public. Louis Vuitton is the clear winner here.

    March 16, 2010 at 3:19 pm

louis vuitton for sure. I'd like to think that success and independence for women doesn't equal harsh and colourless clothes. celine's clothes are sexy, yes, but they are kind of masculine, too. a woman can be a strong character and wear feminine, fun and colourful clothes at the same time.

Curiously I disagree with many comments.
I've read many saying "Celine during the day, Louis Vuitton by night" or "Celine during the week, LV in the week-ends", implying Celine's stule to be naturale and wearable and LV's one to be a bit costumey in its evident femininity.

Well, as I'm a male, I tend to feel that the Celin woman is playing a role, while the LV woman is simply wearing nice clothes…
so LV during the day, and Celine by night, or LV during the week, and Celine on holidays.
    just my impression.

LV outfits are definitely more feminine, in a traditional sense. However, I don't like bows on shoes and I don't like

Hello Scott. Come on, let's be real (and practical) here. Céline all the way, without a hint of a doubt. LV does look very sweet, in the way that women in Mad Men look sweet. But at what cost for their mental health! Cyd, from France.

Because I'm a woman, and I do not have to choose.

I prefer the latter (although I love baking applepie!:P).

I thought the Vuitton show, while lovely to look at, was absurdly retro.
Why would any woman alive in 2010 want to dress as if it was 1956 ?
The volumes of fabric, the constricted shapes are not made for modern lives, for movement and speed.
They look like costumes and not real clothes for real people.
I certainly don't think that either of these shows were the 'most exciting of the season' – PLEASE.
The Lanvin show was beautiful and modern – the cuts, the materials, the attitude, the vigor.
Balenciaga was forward in its materials and cuts – the sharpest pantsuits in Paris.
I liked the Celine show very much and found it real and sleek.
Vuitton was like watching a vintage film.

If you think about it you can transfer the LV feminity to a Celine outfit and say mabybe soften it, but i don't think you can toughen a LV outfit. So i'd rather be a Celine in touch with her feminity, than a weak LV woman.

So interesting as i just came from an in depth lecture about fashion, social aspiration and conformity in the 1950's, and Vuitton's clothes are so clearly influenced by the period. My professor's view is that a generation displaced by growing up in the 30's and 40's were unsure of how to build successful lives as adults after the war, so an extreme focus was placed on appearing to have the trappings of success, and rising about the adversity faced by everyone. I think this mood resonates with the younger generation of today who are largely unmotivated in any particular direction and are often primarily concerned with displaying the trappings of a successful lifestyle, often without having earned them.

Also, I'm a guy and I think Marc made women beautiful again this season.

I'm a woman (I feel like the word "woman" makes me sound old, I am 24) and I would love to be the Celine woman. I love Louis Vuitton and girly is my thang, but I felt a lot of the skirts were dowdy (unless this was done purposefully to contrast the voluptuous tops).

LV does get credit for dressing women who have hips and breasts. I am too endowed on the first, and lacking in the second, so I don't like ultra-low necklines that point out my deficiencies. At the same time, when people speak of Celine being more comfortable, I think the LV full skirts can't be beat for comfort.
Celine, I think, is more beautiful, but it wouldn't look as good on real women who aren't tall, rail-thin, young models. I have something nearly identical to that second Celine outfit you show, and I don't look nearly as good in it, even though I'm not fat.

You posed a great question, because the reader responses will not only tell the difference between men and women, but also differences among cultures and nationalities. I bet more American readers (female included, if not in particular) will opt for Louis Vuitton, while Celine is more desired in West Europe and East Asia, where size is spoken of openly and without political correctness or the self-help obsession for feel-good. I choose Celine. I'd like to see a fashion show where the models look close to perfection rather than one of us. Let me have a moment of escapist fun, please.

Celine! No question about it. I am a woman, not a doll.

  386. xssat

    March 16, 2010 at 6:43 pm

I am definitely a Celine woman. The Celine woman is a thoroughly modern woman, she has a job, fends for herself, a go getter if you will. The latest LV collection feels to me too far removed from today's reality, doesn't do it for me.

  387. Anonymous

    March 16, 2010 at 6:44 pm

Honestly as an independent and strong woman I'd definitely say Louis Vuitton, but then again I didn't grow up in a gender challenged environment and I was never once in my life undermined because I was a woman (well maybe once when I a little girl and wanted to work with my male cousins in their parent's factory carrying heavy boxes, then again I think they were right to let me deal with paper work). So I choose what seems comfortable (nothing is more important than feeling comfortable in what you wear) yet pretty. I'd go for the Celine look only if I was trying to seduce someone by trying to impress.

  393. Zedta

That's tough for me, as a woman. I think it really depends on the day, the occasion, and my mood at the time. If I feel more dark, I would go with Celine, but on a happier day I would lean more towards the LV… it all depends. I don't think people should limit themselves to one style.

Day to day the celine woman is practical, liberating and exciting to imagine while I find the LV woman relatable. I agree that we shouldn't have to choose–to define ourselves so singularly. However..I asked my boyfriend and he said he finds 'businessy looks very nice but that's just too much' so the answer is LV, probably for both of us.

The man's man in me is conflicted, so I would take 'em both, and deal with the consequences later. Seriously, they are both stunning. Slendid indeed!

Thanks for helping me to define my style!

As a (female) motorcyclist I wear lots of black leather with shoulder pads simply for protection while I'm riding. I like nothing better than to throw on a full skirt with a nipped-in waist and a sexy little blouse when I'm off the bike.

  421. Tiger Fodder

  423. Dee

Love them both; personally prefer the LV for myself. Each collection speaks to a different demographic. It's up to woman to make a decision on what looks good on her, what's age and body appropriate, what's correct for the situation for which she is dressing

  424. Anonymous

    March 16, 2010 at 8:38 pm

I used to think of classic look, as in Vuitton, to be "timeless". But seeing these two styles side by side I now understand that Celine is could be "timeless" in the sense that it is not so much bounded to a specific decade. I appreciate you initiating this discussion. I would pick Celine, because I don't want to be associated with a particular decade.

Celine woman is independent, powerful, sure of herself and a little bit androgynous. Doesn't need a man.
LV woman is very sexy and feminine but evokes the housewife of the 50´s for the skirts and the sexual role that they play with the suggestive cleavages. LV woman needs a man.

  427. E. Narcisse

    March 16, 2010 at 8:43 pm

I would be a Celine woman. I could imagine a man of power, or a man with a taste for seduction and adventure, with a Celine woman as well. Nowadays women and men don't have the same priorities– marriage doesn't equal happiness, and independence in a woman is refreshing, reassuring, and ultimately very sexy. Dress like the boys, and you get farther with them– didn't Fillol-Cordier say something similar?

I would rather be the Louis Vuitton woman. Other women may admire the hard lines that epitomize the look of Celine, but admiration leads to isolation. I'd rather have a little bit of a softer look, its more approachable.

    LV- and my boyfriend agrees.

I never thought I was a girly girl, I used to be a tomboy, but the older I get, the more feminine my wardrobe is becoming. the 50's and 60's are the ages that inspire me right now.

I am a woman, and I would rather wear the Louis Vuitton looks. That being said, I would really rather not have to make this choice, because some of the Celine looks are stunning! Particularly look 2. I like having a wardrobe that is sweet and demure and form-fitting and sexy at the same time. Making me choose is to pigeonhole myself into one look, and I'd rather have it all!

Female- With my body type, I could only dress like the Celine woman, though I do think the LV woman is beautiful.. just for someone else's body. Does your body type dictate your style? Perhaps. If you are too skinny and boyish to do the LV feminine look justice. Does anyone else agree?

I know I'm just echoing the sentiment that so many have already shared, but as a well-rounded woman, I think I strive to be both. That kind of balance is essential. I think we'd all love to feel as powerful as the Celine woman and as sexy as the Louis Vuitton woman simultaneously. I know it's silly, but I'm reminded of that Chaka Khan song "I'm Every Woman." So true.

oh, why limit the choices for a thinking woman? The beauty of fashion is the diversity of choices it presents to people. Allow a woman to dress herself for all the beautiful personalities she possesses and chooses to express, may it be to a man or more importantly just 'cause she loves herself.

  510. Maria

    March 17, 2010 at 1:44 am

I am a woman, and I most certainly prefer the Celine look. It is simple, minimal, with no fuss. Yet still elegant. I think the sexiest clothes are those that make you feel supremely comfortable in your own skin, and these would do that for me.

I would feel extremely self-conscious walking around with that much cleavage showing as in the LV outfits. I think they're just too obvious for me. I prefer the mystery of keeping something hidden.

  511. Celine

    So the options are:
Celine- Cold-sexy with shades of sadism.
    Louis- Girly not-too-intellectual country shepherdess.

I'll pick Louis because at least his outfits don't look so harsh. I also prefer some color in my wardrobe, not just black and white. Out of the Louis photos my favorite would be the third bottom) one. I like the color combination & the way the skirt ruffles.

    P.S. I'm female :)

It's funny, I've read that some commenters thinks that the LV look is younger, whereas, being a 21 year old woman, I find the Celine sensibility appeals to me far more than the LV one.
I can imagine wanting that classic LV look when I'm reaching middle age, and that mainly has to do with the length of the skirts and little fussy shoes, but that beautifully cut and fairly slim silhouette that Pheobe Philo has created seems so much more appropriate for a younger body.
Also, I am in lust with the coat shown in image one for Celine. Beautiful!

I am a man. I love beautiful women in beautiful clothes. I loved the Marc Jacobs collection. I love the Louis Vuitton collection. The glory of the female form is fleshed out by both this Vuitton and the recent Marc Jacobs collection.

I'm not basing my preferred woman on this season alone. At the end of the day, the Celine woman much like Phoebe herself is at home and down to earth. She doesn't need to worry about her bag or her watch. She just wants to share a good conversation and jovial laughter. That's why the Celine woman triumphs.

  580. Beha

    March 17, 2010 at 7:07 am

I think the interpretation is quite right, I personally believe that a lot of women strive for a more male-like career look, which Celine sure have got, with the very classic, professional aesthetics. Vuitton on the other hand, seem to focus on some more soft aesthetics, maybe connecting the collection to last-century female role-models, and what man doesn't want to be with Marilyn Monroe?! Words of a Man by the way.

Look at the models' expressions, the Celine group have a more open engagement the LV are more shut down. So "keep off" clothes allow the wearer to engage. Soft vulnerable clothes mean the woman has to create a distance in her demeanor. So Celine every time.

From a male stand point. The Celine woman is very sophisticated and sexy!! The clothes are a knockout!! The LV women are much more feminine and the clothes are beautiful as well. But, I think a woman walking down the street in a Celine outfit is going to stop traffic and turn many a head, men and women.

I think most of us ideally want to be a Celine woman, because it's a powerfull look, harsh but yet sexy, the image of a modern woman. But we know that this is kind of threatening for some men (I said "some") and being a threat is not exactly what we want. So we stick to a look a little sweeter, less severe, something they are famliar with.

Celine make me think in a modern, chic woman, while vuitton make me think in the classical image of a parisian woman of all times, and behind she, and exquisite and classic french couturier. I feel Vouitton is looking back to the past and history, some of us love that too.

The general consensus might say a man would want to be with the LV woman, but let's be honest: he would also have no qualms about seeing the Celine woman on the side. Or vice versa.

He might spend the day with LV, but want to see Celine at night. Or vice versa.

He might be seen out with the Celine woman in the city and have the LV woman on his arm on holiday.
    Or vice versa.

As a woman, my style is much more Celine. Why? LV's image is a tad too feminine for my taste. Perhaps I need the gender balance, but I absolutely need to throw on an item that's more masculine whenever I put on a skirt — like a black leather backpack.

Truthfully, having an all-feminine, young, girlie look is uncomfortable for me because you get different stares. They're not as respectful.

I am SUCH a Louis Vuitton…there are some pieces I like from Celine, but LV's clothes are much more fun, happy, flirty, and hopeful all while being sexy without being obvious. Compare the two side by side. Celine's models appear so much more dominant (…masculine?) than LV models. I look at the Celine's and I see boring basic black, harsh lines, and attitude. Not that there is anything really wrong with that, but LV has given a balance and a romantic refreshing point of view. And I'm really thankful for that.

I would honestly have to say the Louis Vuitton woman. The celine woman is no doubt beautiful, but its exactly like you said, its for the woman who wants to be, not exactly in the position to be with. the Celine look, is professional, its edgy, and its dramatic, however its a little intimidating for partner seeking attire, the Louis Vuitton look is more inviting, and less threatening. They are both very sophosticated though, and both are very lovely styles.

This debate has been going on for decades, between what a woman desire and a man want. There is no method to solve this problem. We should just let the women determine between themselves to satisfy themselves or their man. I can never choose one, Celine or Louis Vuitton. I enjoy to make my self happy, but still make my man satisfy.

My vote goes to Celine, and I am a woman
It is clear why men want to be with the LV woman, as other commenters have said, because she represents the docile archetype that accessories a man's life. She is about making house. However, the whole point of female liberation is not that women do not ever want to 'make house', but that it must not be considered their duty.
In any case, I can imagine the LV style looking amazing on a Monnica Belluci type character, who manages to retain a fiery strength.

Celine at work and Louis Vuitton at love! If I have to give a less diplomatic answer I would definately choose Louis Vuitton. In the rough times we live, I think that Louis Vuitton makes us remember somehow that "God made women". Curves are the leading point. They evoke a sense of forgotten not provocatine elegance, romance, desire, femminility, sensuality, fertility. That's the essence of being a woman, right?

I'm a classy woman, but I think LV is too much, for me it seems like Little House on the Prairie but with broad neckline.
For sure Celine, very sexy and I think is lady also.

I could wear LV skirts but a little bit shorter, maybe like the 3rd photo or even a bit shorter.

Regarding men's point of view, I think they may prefer a LV look for their wife or girlfriend, but the Celine look for a sexy dream, could it be?

    Thanks for asking Scott.

This raised some serious issues for me–I am 5' 1" and quite "curvy" as the fashion magazines like to say. That is I wear a 32 DD bra and have wide hips and a big ass. Small waist. Slightly old Playboy pin-up, although an out-of-shape 50 yr old pin up.

I have always loved the Celine type of look and idea–clean, straight, long, no nonsense but with sensuous fabrics.

But my body doesn't fit those clothes. When I first saw the Vuitton clothes something in me sighed with pleasure, and I realized that it was the idea of wearing clothing designed for my body type, old-fashioned as it is. The idea of not having to search fruitlessly year after year for pants which will cover my butt and fit in the waist AND thighs. The freedom of my legs moving under the generosity of that skirt fabric. For clothing which would at least generally follow the shape of ME.

So–what will I wear? Dunno. My mind is Celine but my body is Vuitton. As I get older I'm actually more inclined to wear what suits my body, but I still live in hope that someday I will find the perfect pair of pants which will fit my waist, thighs, and general shortness.

    Sigh. Dream on.

But I do find that men respond to the sheer biology involved–sorry Celine women. You mostly scare them. I'm not saying it's right, and I fight back with a toughness my body does not have, but basically straight men usually respond to what is NOT their body—a bit of softness.

I am a woman, and I would rather be a Louis Vuitton! most of the time. sometimes, when I'm feeling fierce, Celine. and I love that first coat… hmm. I think I'm both! But I sort of hate the allusion that woman only want to be feminine and soft because a man wants that – I find that so incredibly anti-woman. I'm 100% for Céline, even though I'm young (21). Everyone keeps saying that the Vuitton look is more feminine, but personally, that's what I like about the Céline look — it draws attention to the female shape. it's not girly, but it is feminie. Vuitton's look is at best evocative of 50s dresses, and at worst, childish.

    Céline FTW.

    Celine.

I imagine that those clothes would move with my body, my gait, and my natural gestures.

The LV clothes would restrict my gestures to those demanded by the clothes.

    Also:
Celine femininity has a producer's aesthetic, and LV femininity has a consumer's aesthetic.

  766. Nathan

    March 19, 2010 at 7:48 pm

2 out of 3 id rather be with Louis Vuitton women. the first Celine is an exciting and sexy silhouette – a brilliant marriage of fabric, colour and cut ie thin trouser and sleeve straight waist and an attractive and interseting torso for me just marginally beats the overly feminine LV ensemble although the shoes are amazing!

the other 2 celine looks i think are unimaginative and a bit IKEA looking! – not boring but a bit flat and altogether too unfeminine for me to be able to imagine myself comporting with a woman friend hapilly about town in these clothes.

  767. MJ

    March 19, 2010 at 7:48 pm

I would definitely be a Celine Woman. The 3 outfits pictured in this post are sharp, sexually charged, very down-to-business, and possess the perfect amalgam of voluptuousness and androgyny.

The collections are so different.., but I would have to choose Celine.. (sorry Marc..) I could wear Celine every day & night. I wear black & white often and love the strong lines and tailoring. I understand what LV is trying to say, but Celine I can relate to. I can see myself wear that and feel very comfortable in it. And feel very feminine at the same time. I do love the curvyness of LV and the colors! If Celine had made this collection with the LV colorpalette, I would think that it will even be more of a hit! (if that's even possible…;-)

  782. Anonymous

    March 20, 2010 at 11:26 pm

Celine is much more my style, no doubt, though I could only really see myself wearing the first look. Ideally, I'd snag a few of those LV pieces & "Celine" them–pair the second skirt with Celine's leather shell & a pair of motorcycle boots, for instance, or mix that third LV top with raggedy jeans, the first Celine jacket, & some serious boots.

I would say LV. I get sick of the "harsh" = "powerful woman". Which is what Celine's collection seems to be perpetuating for me. Being a feminist doesn't mean you have to dress like a man or stop enjoying what makes you different than a man. Growing up my mom always had a large collection of vintage 50's dresses, and they never kept her from reaching her career goals or from being a powerful role model for me and my sister. Furthermore, as a girl with a perfect hourglass figure I'm sick of clothes that fit my bust and hips but lose my waist in a sea of fabric, LV brings back a cut that I've been wearing for years because it flatters a woman's entire figure.
