Super cute stylings, but what is the aversion to brows that the Japanese have?
Booth boys and girls. Brows are like glasses, they make the face of a person.
Just a shadow of a brow takes away that. Why spend so much time on looks if it fades the “you” that you want to express?
i was just in tokyo last week and the style there truly amazed me. nearly everyone’s was so unique and interesting from the way they dressed to their hair and accessories! love these images!
Hi from Portugal. I’m a huge fan of your blog and work. I wish I could be the “portuguese sartorialist” :)
If you have a minute I would like you to see a photo a took of you in Paris http://mafaldasistelo.blogspot.com/2011/11/scott-schuman.html
The Japanese are very adventurous when it comes to Fashion, which is quite interesting for a culture that is so inward looking and critical of itself. Perhaps, Fashion then plays a role of providing people with an outlet to actually be themselves. One of the most intriguing thing I find about their concept of “beauty”, especially among young adults, is the appreciation of imperfect teeth. Imperfect teeth – protruding canines, in particular – is perceived to be cute and unique.
I can’t really get on board with the asymmetrical fringe too much, but I really like how unexpected their earrings are! That’s cute! Only the Japanese could pull this off and look simultaneously cool and cute.
Incredible faces. Love the way these young ladies play with simple make up, efficient hair cut and lovely kawai earings.
I love these photos and the video which explain the process used to shoot the first girl.
They look like two little pixies!
I love the one-dangle-earing look.
I like how the blonde girly has paired the feminine cherry earring with masculine scull studs, perfect contrast.
Xo
I love pixie haircuts, it’s just so chic and stylish and the color is the icing on the cake. I would love it if you checked out my blog, I have interesting fashion posts you might love to read.
The smile of the first lady is way deformed by botox. And I could never really get why japanese dye their hair blonde, it looks unnatural and…well, just awful.
Ah, there may be a use for my solo dangly earring, after all. Although the flying solo single-earring-look of the two pixies in these beautiful photographs carries much whimsy, my own preference is for a matched pair of dangly earrings.
i love the individuality of these ladies and especially the cherry. it reminds of my high school years in the 80s. The blonde has very peculiar mouth though.
I dig the blonde’s look. The other girl’s hair is unbelievably unflattering though I get that she’s both edgy and cute. Such a pretty face – I hope she grows that haircut out.

Winged Lips for Winged Lids
November 17, 2011 at 12:13 am
Love it that the blonde has pursed her lips in a way so that it mirrors her kohled and “winged” lids.
The giant cherry earring on the side adds a nice dose of fun to the picture.
As an Asian, I know that she is not considered a beauty by her peers but she sure has style. Which is arguably better.
