I made a little joke the other week about Detroit not being the most chic city in…..well, anywhere. I guess Detroit gets the last laugh because it could not look better than in the HUGE Bruce Weber editorial in the Sept W. This is just the type of long-form editorial that Bruce is so good at and that has made him my favorite photographer.

How does one look at a cover like that when the weather outside is positively infernal and not cringe? I was in Berlin during the heat wave last month and they were selling these chunky sweaters at the Jil Sander store. I thought it somewhat surreal. Beautiful sweaters, though.

the Juergen Teller editorial in the September issue is quite nice. But why Ricci on the cover?

“Detroit not being the most chic city in…..well, anywhere” Excuse me? Detroit is not chic? Where have you been in Detroit that leads you to this conclusion? I happen to consider myself very chic and also run an on-line fashion magazine. I’ll give you one wild guess where I’m from. sheesh…

I am currently living in Metro Detroit and you’re right, it’s a common misconception from outsiders that it is NOT a chic city… in many ways it’s not so chic, but in more ways that one, it is a city with a rich history and all-American culture, as well as an up-and-coming stylish city… which leads me to point out that Detroit breathes it’s own breath of a unique STYLE, if you will… there are pockets of life all around the city, being nurtured by entrepreneurs, hipsters, environmentalists, forward-thinkers, dreamers, artists, and importantly, fashionable people! Being originally from So-Cal, I did not foresee the potential prior to moving here. Being entrenched in it now and working my way into the Fashion Scene here as a Wardrobe and Style Consultant, I know it is THE place to be, and THE time to be here! Speaking of time… it’s ABOUT time a major magazine features this tragically gorgeous and beautifully reforming and hopeful city!
