It seems the most interesting things happening at Etro were from the back. ![]()
Notice how the built-in darts (fully-fashioned) and the zipper keep her “chunky knit” from making her literally look chunky.

The lines of the pleated skirt/rib knit top ( plus the “built-in darts” ) combo accentuate her fabulous midriff.

Once again, Monsieur M steals the words out of my mouth and makes them sound better. :)
Mr Schuman makes a very good point about that sweater, too–I love heavy rib-knits, but they’re often difficult to wear because they bunch up awkwardly. I’d love to find a sweater tailored like that (but long enough to tuck in over my not-as-fabulous midriff).

LOVE the chunky midriff sweater with the mid-calf skirt and ankle-strap shoes! The fitted style is wonderful, and the fact that it zips in the back is a great vintage touch! Her simple hair and the printed clutch, make her totally stylish in an effortless way.

How is the back so sexy?? I don’t know how, but it is! Love the first and second ladies outfits. Simple, elegant, gorgeous. The last one seems pretty terrible, even though her sliver of back is quite lovely. Thanks for keeping us hip and gorgeous Sartorialist! xoH

I’m all for chunky knits. I don’t think they make you look chunky so much if you balance them out with slim-fit pants or bare legs. Quite the opposite because of the contrast.
However with a skirt of this volume, a chunky knit without tailoring wouldn’t be the best look (in theory… someone, prove me wrong!)

As a knitter, I don’t think those “darts” really are darts. There are the same number of increases above them as there are decreases below, making them a design feature without actually shaping the jumper. It is certainly shaped, but at the sides rather than at those “darts”.

absolutely, I wonder if it has the same effect when dressed backwards

it’s funny how you think that it has more to do with the structure of her white sweater rather than her weight. Let’s just face it she’s skinny mini and the only thing that would make her look chunky is 15 pounds. That being said she looks great..
