I admire the boldness of the girls who shave off a side of their head, like the one in the first picture. I don’t think I can grow it out elegantly and without going through my fav binge foods everyday!
Scott, do you think now-a-days more people are falling into the ‘individualistic trend’ in their fashion styles rather than following the ‘it trends’ of a season? Or is it more of a mix of a both, with an upcoming trajectory of the former? Do you think it forebears an omen as such for the fashion industry? Is that even possible? :)
I like the question formulated by Richten, it opens a nice discussion about something that I’ve been thinking this period. I truely belive that fashion nowadays it’s more about selfexpression, personal style, at least more than it used to be, nowadays the more personal touch the better, even if you can “DIY” do it yourself, twice better because it will have more character, the garmet would have a story behind quite personal, is there anything that can be more “you”? I belive that the “it girl” is simply for the nice pictures on the magazines, the working woman is very conscious of that and enjoy it, but defenitely doesn’t identify herself with it.
By the way, I love the wrinkles of the lady in the picture, isn’t it beautiful? All the wisdom in her face- fabulous!
@Martina: it could be due to the reigning economic condition of our times. people have to work harder to maintain their lifestyles, maybe their fashion budgets are not the same as they used to be. the working man and the woman needs to spread out their focus on more things in the same old 24 hours. Therefore we are getting to see more of individual styles and comfort chic on frontlines of fashion, and this gets my thumbs up!
However, the ‘it’ concept still does hold good and I feel what it means changes with the context that a photo is set in and the story behind it. For e.g., the ‘it’ trends we see on magazines and on models would hold good because it inspires us, helps us dream and eventually develop our own choices. It would, in this case depend on the composer, the stylist, everyone who’s come together in putting out that image. They might take the help of the latest fads, do something that’s right off the runway or do something vintage but it is all aimed at inspiring , in some way, the eyes that are going to take in that image.
When regular people are concerned and we see someone looking good in what they’re wearing we’d come to know that that is this person’s style because they’d look ultimately comfortable in carrying themselves. THAT style for that particular person would become the ‘it’. And eventually they come to be defined by it leading to a possible ‘it’, until they chose to throw some other things in it and twist it or change it completely. And I believe we can find these styles right where we live and in people we see daily, the ‘regular’ people :).
1) Love the shaved/long hair look … I personally don’t love where the shaving happened here, but I love the bold statement. Yellow is my favourite colour pop. (“Colour pop” … hmmm … sounds like a good makeup line.)
2) The second woman is gorgeous and dignified. Her hair! Glasses! Earrings! I want to look like this when I grow up.
3) Another yellow colour pop bag! Cool outfit – the shirt is most intriguing.
I recognised her legs! Weird! I mean, she has lovely legs, obviously, but i’m not sure about the internet when it means I can recognise a ‘stranger’ by their legs…well actually, I saw the bag, thought ‘I bet that one’s Garance’, then the legs. My PhD thesis would benefit from this kind of attention.
Wow that third look is so stunningly gorgeous with the print, pop of color from the bag, elegant shirt, and whimsical hairstyle. That is a woman who knows her way around a closet.
I feel extremely honoured and proud everytime I see one Mrs. Pascolato’s picture here (or any other brazilian person’s either a fashion icon or not). Thank u Scott for the great image!
Ultra high heels might distort posture. I wonder how comfortable they are to walk in. They look nice, though. I think it takes sacrifice of comfort to wear them. Thanks for posting the second image to represent the advanced style group too.
I want to partially shave my head but then I want a bouffant too. And then I still want to braid my hair too…what’s a girl to do with all this inspiration?
When I think about it, I can still bouffant and braid with a partially shaved head. As a matter of fact that would give it a very modern edge.

I adore everything here, but I have to say the third picture is NOT my favorite. Those pants are sliding down her crotch in a way that reminds me of when young urban guys decided to wear their pants below their underwear about five years ago. Its plain ugly.
