OMG! Just beautiful in so many ways. Bright aqua in back is so cool with the black of her clothes in the foreground. Cellists are usually wearing austere long black skirts. Love her shorts (or short skirt?) and her knowing, curious expression. Wonder what this gorgeous, musical girl was thinking about or looking at.

Cello is my favorite instrument. This young woman’s haunting eyes and her style are captivating but it’s also helped by the graduating background’s shapes and colors.

Yes you always capture such great fashion, but please tell me, how do you so often (always?) capture the PERSON?? I model for a living and struggle to communicate such realism and personality to the camera. How do you get it from people as you’re just walking down the street?

I also often wonder how Scott always seems to get better results from people on the street then every other photographer can get from the best models. I would love to know his secret. Although its probably not something that can be described in words or reproduced.

As a photographer myself I’d say it’s practice, born of the desire to achieve something, melded with an exceptional eye. But the eye can be trained, so it’s back to practice again. Of the footage I’ve seen of Scott working, he works quickly, so the moment isn’t lost and people have no time to recompose themselves. In the footage he also seeks permission, so with consent given he is free to operate how he needs to. With regard to expression, some people seem to be open and expressive and make this available to the camera, others seem to be much more guarded with their expression. When I (rarely) work with models I select them based on this. So perhaps Scott has edited out those who did not feel comfortable giving something of themselves to the camera.

amazing photograph. as someone who reluctantly played the cello for years i can tell you that’s it’s not the easiest thing in the world to look natural much less cute while saddled with a large string instrument. she manages that and then some.

Such a hauntingly beautiful girl…I would think she is one of those young women who the word “style” is more relevant than “fashion”. Her haircut proves too that short can be just as sexy as long when well done. I don’t think boys are objecting to it on her! She is simply beguiling! Congrats on capturing her magic! My only nitpick and this only because of our horrific heat here in the US…the boots make me hot just to look at them. Any other time? Great, but I don’t know how someone could put that much shoe on? But that is so minor, trust me. Great image!

I like the draping of her simple black dress, her hair, and her boots. It’s an edgy look for the the classic instrument. But I also love how the moment was captured, you can just hear the music flowing from photograph.

boots and shorts together? When it’s warm enough for shorts it’s too hot for boots, they don’t really work in the same temperature range.

A Dutch (no, Belgian) book by Dimitri Verhulst starts with a lovely sentence about women playing cello, how the spreading of the legs of a woman playing cello is the nicest of all kinds of leg-spreading. She is beautiful.
