As an aspiring street photographer it would be great to know what lens focal length you use for close up portraits such as this compared to your wider shots.
Really like the way this guy stands out against the background like a ‘staged’ shot but could easily be a dark alley in the background he is melting out of….
Beautiful. I agree, that your portrait shots are the best. It’s the details, it’s about the people, their expressions. Not all the fashion-boom-and-bust-kitsch-peng-bazoog. Capturing people’s personalities, very often means capturing details. There’s something totally fractal about photography: you can get sometimes as much (or even more) out of a detail shot than out of a full-body one.
Btw, over the last years I’ve seen a lot of fashion blogs, streetstyle and others, but I keep coming back to yours. I like your steady confident approach. It’s awesome that you don’t just snap the latest it-humans with their bombastic bags and towering heels, who are waiting to be photographed. It seems like you try to make things be about more than just the show. Your photography is more about people, their characters and expressions.
So boring. What’s the message of this shot? That he’s got great bone structure? This is what i hate about men’s fashion, the focus seem to be on how beautiful your face/body is, not necessarily on the clothes and how you wear them..
This is simply stunning. I love your photography because you seem to really capture the personality of your subjects. The lighting, tones, and texture of this photo is really beautiful. Love love love.
this is just an incredible picture!
so simple and casual and yet so amazing!
and the guy, WOW, one of the most attractive guys I have EVER seen! really, ever!

This is a beautiful photograph. The gentleman’s scarf bouces out at you as the subject of the image. The man’s attractive face is complimentary to the scarf’s textual quality. Truly, it appears as though the scarf is wearing the man. It reminds me of the portrait pieces by many of the dutch masters of the renaissance, but particularly Jan Van Eyck’s “Man in a Turban”. See what I mean? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Portrait_of_a_Man_by_Jan_van_Eyck-small.jpg
its the classic – don’t judge a book by its cover. but, how man books would we read if the cover wasn’t compelling? would you have captured the portrait if the cover hadn’t pulled you in?
The goal of a portrait is to capture the essence of an individual, of which this photograph is a fine example.
Yes, I see the O.Bloom resemblance and even a dash of Depp, but–to me–he brings to mind a young Eugene Delacroix, a master of portraiture…click on my name and see.
Hey Dom, the hairdo is really easy.
You have to blow-dry them up with a brush after washing. They will hold up by themselves, but you should fix them with a bit of “wax” – I use the german product “Strandmatte” by got2be.
Depending on your hair structure you have to use more or less amount of the product. The hair will stay flexible yet controlled. You can easily fix them back up with your hands. If you want, you can put a bit of hairspray, but key to this hairdo is to keep them flexible.
This is one of my all time favorite portraits of yours. I love your work! The way you can capture the essence of someone’s style in a single photograph is truly brilliant.
